I love that you show good defensive plays even when they result in the offense scoring. You can play good or even great defense, do everything you're supposed to, and the offense still scores, and it's good to see that you're showing that

He reminds me of Andre Roberson with more athleticism. Roberson at his peak was the best on ball defender in the league hands down. Over kawhi at the time. I’m not a analytical guy, but the analytics prove that is wasn’t even close. And if you watched, you would just know. Roberson was, for a short time, one of the best perimeter defenders the league has ever seen. He managed to play starter minutes for years on a contending team while being maybe the worst offensive player in the league.

He gets an unbelievable amount of contests. Now that usually means shots. But he won't let sht go down on his watch. The pass is contested and the dribble is contested, too. "Not on Herb!"

The rightful rookie of the year in my opinion. His luck-adjusted RAPM numbers prove he is having possibly some form of MVP level impact for the Pels. His offense isn't too shabby either. I've noticed that his handle is secure and that he overwhelmingly uses it to drive into easy fastbreak points though his long-rangedness and passing is questionable or even negative at times.

here's why I feel like defense isn't worse/better than 80s or 90s-00s basketball, look at some of these clips where even though herb contested beautifully while closing out on a shooter they still made it and tell me "today's players don't play defense" no what it is is NBA players generally speaking have gotten better offensively in terms of shooting, ball handling , setting up mismatches and athleticism (athleticism not by much but enough to make defenses have to work harder to close out or recover). NBA players today are much better shooters than 1992 And 2002. largely speaking if you look at the average 3 point% of the 90s-00s it's lower than today's NBA and on top of that most of those 3s those players were taking back then were open unless it was late in the shot clock or you were a star, or had caught fire. so players back then shooting roughly 32% from 3 on mostly open shots vs players today shooting 36% on mostly tightly contested 3s because a lot of times teams already know the play, know which player is coming off the screen and have adjustments to stop that and even then they still can't always stop a player from draining shots cause shooters today are much better than shooters in years past. also with that defensive schemes were easier back then . hell in 2007 to stop the Cavs all you had to do was wall up the paint... and you got brick city. now you have to hone in on more players on a team cause now instead of a team having 3-4 quality shooters, they now have 12-13 players who can shoot 35%+ from 3 and only 1 or 2 players who can't. if anything defenders today have to work harder, but get less recognition for it.

It goes both ways. Players on average were less skilled back then but that also means if you were a star back then, you were playing with less skilled teammates. In terms of 3pt shooting skill , it’s also better on average but in terms of contested 3’s is actually about the same. Players no doubt hit a lot of contested 3’s like Curry and Klay but since guys are attempting a lot more you have so many open ones on fast breaks or guys who are just left open from outside like Westbrook and Giannis. In terms of 3pt accuracy, it’s been about 34-36% on average since the mid to late 90’s to today.
