Love this Celtics team, guards are insane, the two wing players also elite defensively... and don't forget old Al Horford. He struggles vs the quickness but he's still so good at sliding his feet and forcing guys into making tough shots to beat him. They really need Porzingis back for the complete package
Horford is playing out of his brain. He's not supposed to be able to cover guards one on one, but he's at least giving it his all and keeping opponents from the more effective offense of constant ball movement. They see the iso, go right at him and their normal offense goes away. It works for a bit, but eventually it doesn't and they're completely out of offensive rhythm. Sacrificing his ego for the team. That's what wins championships...

Underrated part of the game from both yesterday, their rebounding was huge. They love to scrap, they love the matchups, they love the moment. Big praise to Brad Steven’s for making the moves to acquire them, and in Derrick’s case, continuing to put the resources in to develop him.

I dont think jrue or d.whites going to guard luka. Those werent the defensive coverages joe assigned in their previous matchups. What i'd expect is:
jrue guards PJ
jb guards luka
d.white guards ky
jt guards gafford
al guards derrick jones (and plays roamer if not hunted in PNR)
I would expect luka or ky to hunt al. the key for the celtics is to survive those matchups and of course go at luka/ky's weak defense on the other end.
They'd probably put al on a non-lob/roll threat so the even when the celtics switch, whoever's guarding luka can try to stunt and recover. This is why i think it will be jones jr.
We'll most likely see jt and jb take turns on luka. Jrue will act more as a roamer.

@@TheRobversion1 There is no chance Tatum will be on Gafford and Horford will be on jones. Jrue is 100% playing on ball on either Luka or Kyrie. Luka just got 4 steals and cause 3 other turnovers. What weak defence? Mavs are the top defence in the league since the break. JT on ball is a free basket every time.

Such a joke. D White played as good defense as I've seen from that position in YEARS, and somehow ends up on the second team! He guards every position, while Gobert can't even deal with a forward with decent handle. NBA writers behave like they're not even watching the games, just reading the box score and voting on nepotism. Embarrassing...

Yeah gobert dpoy's are jokes. He always gets played off the floor or burned by the playoffs. contrast this to wemby who can actually guard in space. Or d.white who can actually guard in space AND be a rim protector. Perimeter defense in todays nba has to matter more. Everyone just voting for who has the highest boards and blocks among the bigs.

@@randylahey8207 the writers dont recognize it because the celtics are the most hated team in the league. They are probably the most "team" and "boring" team in the league since the spurs chip teams. They arent marketable because they are a bunch of soft, high BBIQ, defense 1st, even keel personality guys. Essentially a team of brad stevens. The national media and most casuals prefer "dawgs". Guys who trash talk, express their emotions, taunt, alpha scorers.
To use a star wars analogy, the media prefers the sith (dawgs) to the jedi (boring nerds). They are more marketable. Or if that doesnt work for you, a WWE analogy would be the media prefers the stone cold steve austins/the rocks to the john cenas.

i hadn't watched Holiday much until early this season when we played the Knicks and he guarded Julius Randle all game. Randle spent most of the game with his dribble picked up, desperately looking for someone to pass to. Scored in single digits.

The understanding of defensive tactics, coverages, and how the NBA is played is incredibly impressive and these types of videos break it down in a way that’s entertaining and easy to understand. Some of my favorite basketball analysis around is on these ones.

As a Celtics fan, I'll never forget Marcus Smart's brain-dead terrible performance in the last moment of G5 VS the Bucks in 2022 due to Jrue Holiday's defense. Thanks to Jayson Tatum's 46 points in G6, otherwise Celtics may not even made it to the Eastern Final that year. So happy Jrue Holiday got traded to the Celtics this season.

Jrue holiday should be DPOY. Unfortunately I feel like they measure it in stats like blocks and steals. He’s got the steals. But there’s so many things that don’t show up on the stat sheet like forcing a big in the post out to the 3 point line for a double dribble. Or making haliburton fall out of bounds off sheer pressure without even touching him. Or forcing shot clock violations and grabbing boards as a point guard. Rudy gobert stays getting posterized. Idk how he’s a 4x DPOY

The only one arguable is ron and mj and none of the guys u named could gaudd a power forward let alone a way above average center like myles turner. Even gary peyton and mj together would be arguBle. @@wavyeee I don’t think it’s an either or situation, they’re going to sign both. They needed jrue’s defense and ball facilitation to open the lanes for the jays. Jrue is older but was necessary to win now, d white will sign under the bird rights and hopefully will be with the team for a while. I’m just happy they have both players because they wouldn’t have won it with one of them off the roster.
They guard 1-5 in today's era, but theyre not guarding the old school bigs effectively like this
