      1By the rivers of Babylon,
      There we sat down, yea, we wept
      When we remembered Zion.
      2 We hung our harps
      Upon the willows in the midst of it.
      3 For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song,
      And those who plundered us requested mirth,
      Saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
      4 How shall we sing the Lord’s song
      In a foreign land?
      5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
      Let my right hand forget its skill!
      6 If I do not remember you,
      Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth-
      If I do not exalt Jerusalem
      Above my chief joy.
      7 Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom
      The day of Jerusalem,
      Who said, “Raze it, raze it,
      To its very foundation!”
      8 O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed,
      Happy the one who repays you as you have served us!
      9 Happy the one who takes and dashes
      Your little ones against the rock!

      I guess they (the programmers) intended to show Joshua's extreme attention to detail or his total obsession, when planning a move. The more funnier way to look at it, is that the tribe aren't able to maintain the weapons properly, and he has to do it for them, slaving away in the back of the cave. ;)

    Joshua is my favourite fallout character, barring my own beliefs. He's inspiring, reborn, protective, soft spoken. A man who once reveled in cruelty and evil, a man under Caeser, who is arguably the most evil man to rise since the bombs dropped. And after this, being reborn, literally tasting this own cruel medicine, he sees the error in his ways and seeks to love, protect, nurture these ignorant tribals, keeping these humble people away from the evil he once doled out so indiscriminately.

    • @truekurayami
      @truekurayami 6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Honestly while the debate about the form of Christianity is interesting, a few points. First most of what Mormons talk about with people unfamiliar with Christianity in general do keep to the general Christian views. Second Joshua specifically talks about one of his "people's" ancestors building the guns he is working with, and those guns were Designed by Browning, even if the rights to the models were sold to Colt later, and Browning was Mormon. And finally his comment about a "Light in the Darkness" does reflect a Mormon specific view around Hell in their teachings, as what most Christian followings call "Hell" the Mormons call "The Outer Darkness" which both the sinners that can't be saved and those that have been saved can be found, as while the ones that couldn't be saved are trapped their those that were saved can freely visit, and thus the saved found there are "Lights in the Darkness".
      Now that said Mormons especially from Ogden and the first settlement in Utah with Brigham Young are known to be very cruel in the dark parts of there history, in fact one of Brigham Young's top men was known to be so cruel he would be a perfect counterpart to Joshua before the First battle of Hoover Dam, and the criminal elements of Ogden were so bad they kept Al Capone from even attempting to expand into Ogden at least, Utah at most, So seeing Joshua as a Mormon is a subtle nod to the state's History those outside of Utah would almost likely never know.

    Its little but its cool that the devs snuck it in.
    When the courier asks Joshua about his guns, he mentions that "It was a design made by a member of his tribe over four hundred years ago." Joshua is talking about "John Moses Browning" who was a real life famous gun designer and a strong believing Mormon (Which through other lore we find out that Joshua belief system is heavily based on Mormonism.) in the early 20th century. John Browning made many gun designs and patents but his most famous one was possibly the "Colt M1911 .45 automatic pistol" which is represented in the NV Honest hearts DLC as the ".45 automatic."

    The main reason I'm glad Interplay closed down and never released their version of Fallout 3 is because, in that game, the Burned Man was a crazy psycho. In FNV, they managed to make him one of the best characters in the franchise, with an extraordinarily morally ambiguous backstory. Honest Hearts and Old World Blues are my most favorite of the bunch. Btw, funny story, my first time playing the Honest Hearts dlc, I was always sniping from afar with the hunting rifle with scope, upgraded bolt, extended mag, and JSP rounds and I actually thought follows chalk was a bad gay at first and killed him. I was confused and literally spent the next 6 hours killing the friendly NPCs who I thought were hostile. It wasn't until I saw the ending cut scene that I literally ruined everything, so I had to read a guide to find out that I fucked up at the beginning by killing Follows Chalk....and thus I felt like a total idiot. The next day I then proceeded to reply the whole story and find all the logs of Randal Clark which literally made me cry, and had one of the best days I've ever had and one of the most amazing moments in video gaming I've ever experienced. New Vegas is the best Fallout since the first 2 10000000/10

    • @tallman11282
      @tallman11282 7 ปีที่แล้ว +141

      Chris Warman I noticed the same thing. I've never played Fallout but from what I've learned watching Oxhorn's videos Legionnaires pronounce Caesar as "Kay-zar" (which is the proper pronunciation from real history according to Oxhorn in his video on the Legion) while non-Legionnaires pronounce it "See-zer". Even Follows-Chalk pronounces it "Kay-zar" when one would think he learned the name from Joshua. My guess is when he renounced the Legion Joshua decided to start pronouncing Caesar as "See-zer".

    • @AirSnipers96
      @AirSnipers96 7 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Chris Warman
      All I can think of is the two languages that you would get Caesar from - Greek and Latin. High class Romans during Caesars time spoke Latin, which uses a soft 'C' (see-zar) but Greek was the common language which uses a hard 'C' (Kay-Sar).
      So since Joshua is descended from Mormons perhaps he decided to learn Latin? I don't know why that would be the case and it's a long shot. Maybe it was just overlooked.

      Maybe Joshua didn't meet the tribe alone and had a Frumentari or someone like that with him. He was the leader of the army and leaders often delegate tasks for various reasons. Even if Bethesda wants to make us believe that a General has to do everything himself.
      Follows-Chalk also mentions Caesar and his army in a way that makes me think that he at least was part of it.

    When Graham started talking about the Res and the visitors combining their languages and hearing the woman talk before talking to Joshua, some of the words she said had some German pronunciation in it (although the spelling was obviously wrong) Let me explain a little.
    She says "Owslandr zookuh Joshua Graham?"
    When, in German, I would say (directly) "Auslaender sucht nach Joshua Graham?"
    In English, "Foreigner (or Out-lander) is searching (or searches) for Joshua Graham?"
    Now, I had to add a word, but that's for the sake of keeping the grammar correct. But I mean, after however long they've been combining the languages, the pronunciation is going to be changed along with the grammar.
    But hey, that's just my input on the subject.
    Plus I don't have umlauts on my keyboard. I just live in Germany with my wife and have to learn the language.
    EDIT: I just looked it up on the wiki, and now I feel dumb for posting this xd

      yeah, the visitors were probably German tourists. German pop culture loves native American stereotypes, especially the plains tribes like the Dakota and Lakota and Apaches. i don't really get why, but it's definitely a thing. i attended a lecture given on the topic, especially Edward Two-Two, who did...let's call them wild west shows? He did horse tricks, bow exhibitions, &c. He was a big dude and in shows fit the idea of a noble warrior perfectly.

    • @elpascalmods7384
      @elpascalmods7384 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Germany's fondness of the wild west dates back to the extremely popular Karl May youth novels published and written in the late 19th century, which also were also made into extremely popular movies in the 60's.
      As for the Dead Horses' language, it indeed is also influenced by the german language, as confiormed by Josh Sawyer, who speaks german himself.
