Thnx, you really covered lots of territory.😅I for one have a sweet spot for 80ish grams for weight. Not really thrilled for blade exposure yet. Super guide lines. The best 👌
Great review. I have the birch and love it. The mat finish is done perfect. One thing I think is remarkable is that the lather channels don’t pass thru the base plate, but I never have an issue with the flow of lather.
Excellent review! This is definitely one of my favorites. One thing I love is how well it rinses. People think you need lather channels for rinsing, but this proves otherwise.
Awesome review of this beautiful razor, Tobin! I owned the solid stainless V2 Rocca. It WAS a great shaver, exceptional head shaver, but the head was a bit too bulbous to detail the edges of my goatee, so I sold it. It was an incredibly well-made, attractive, flawless razor though. I agree with it 100% being someone’s 3rd or 4th razor, as mine was definitely sensitive to angle, if I had it loaded w/a Nacet, I had to make sure to not lean back too far, or my skin would pay the price. Once I learned it’s angle, (actually got a great tip from a young Australian or New Zealander TH-camr, thank you Spencer Frankel)! nothing but close, smooth shaves from then on out, but I remember it shaved better for me w/a shallower angle than normal, which required more experience to get used to. That being said, I’m still a huge fan of Muhle, their fit & finish is excellent, in my experience. Funny how the EJDE-89 shaves better for you, the MR89 shaves better for me and it’s my favorite razor of that style. 🤣 I guess that why we keep saying YMMV, because it really does! 🤣
Well said, however I didn't say the the Edwin shaves better than the Mühle. Just that the blade gap is nearly twice the size. I hope I didn't give the impression that one shaves better than the other. I'd say they shave extremely similar. A lot of people think they have the same head. The difference is, the Mühle has a blade gap of . 018" and the EJ has a gap of . 028" which is a considerable difference in measurement. From this, I find that the Mühle to be slightly (keyword slightly) more mild. I think in a blind test most would never know the difference, that's how similar they are for me. The numerical score was just for "efficiency". Have a good one brother! I hope this makes more sense. 🙏
Oh, ok, gotcha! Thanks for the clarification! For me, the R89 shaves closer than the DE89. I can also visually tell them apart, because they look slightly different if you look at them from the short sides of the cap. I’ve owned 2 DE89’s and sold them both. I have to use a Feather in either/or, but I’m unable to attain BBS w/the DE89, not an issue whatsoever for me w/the R89 though.
Great review Tobin! I love my Rocca! Worth mentioning that the birch bark provides phenomenal grip. No matter how much water or soap you have on your fingers it's very safe, almost like you're holding on tacky rubber handle.
@@Tobins_throwbacks Hi Tobin, I hope your Wednesday is going great. I did not hear what score you gave this razor for tolerance. I watched it a couple of times but did not hear it. What did you give this one for tolerance? Many thanks. It is for my notebook I keep on your reviews.
Super Review Tobin Thankyou! I have looked at this Razor before but opted to go for the 6s instead as there very similar in price but after watching you review this I will definitely purchase the Razor I like it in the Matte finish stainless steel.a January purchase for sure thanks again 🙌🙂👍🏻
Thanks Michael! The 6S is another one of my favorites! If you find anywhere cheaper than Amazon let me know, sadly some of my favorite vendors are charging way too much for me to mention them in a video when compared with that price on Amazon. Have a good one!
Excellent review Tobin. I have had my Rocca in pure matte finish for about 6 months and it has fast become one of my top razors. So smooth and efficient with no matter what blade I use. The only minor improvement would be to the increase the size of the lather channels which would make for easier rinsing. Have a great day and appreciate s as lil your videos!!
@@Tobins_throwbacksPersonna Red, Gillette 7 O’clock Blacks Platinum but my all time best are vintage Wilkinson Sword made in England. Lucky for me I still have some NOS tucks.
Tobin, Since you are the GOAT on reviews of shaving brushes 🤣 I am looking for a tall handle barber style brush either badger or a good synthetic smaller knot (22 to 24 mm). Any expert recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Steve
Exposed blade tabs through the ends of the razors' heads mean ease for removing the blade from the razors' heads. Extremely rare that the end tabs ever cut me, but has happened. Just use some care.
Great! I'm actually surprised that its stainless steel as a lot of the commercial razors are Z Mac. It's funny my most used razor is the Leaf Thorn. It's kind of an auto pilot shave for me with just the right amount of blade feel and efficiency. Some of that is probably where I have it sitting and that it always has a blade in it-lol! I do have runs on razors that I'll use over and over again. I also don't shave everyday and have tough beard hair, so the razor has to have good efficiency and flow well. It took some determination to get into wet shaving because I had a lot of terrible shaves at first. A lot of that had to do with well-meaning advice that I ended up having to ignore. Hot towels, warm water, mild blades, and mild razors almost ended my journey. Everybody is different and if something isn't working for you, you have to change things up. I wish I had some good advice on your job! Sometimes things are just a slog and it takes a while to get used to, other times you have to shock your system and go over the top. You might have to add some strenuous work to the days you're off work for a little, to push through a plateau. Take care bro!
Hey Ian! Happy Thanksgiving brother! I've been using a Thorn the past couple months have one on loan. I have the Twig in my collection And it's just too mild. I do like the added efficiency of the thorn. And thanks man it's getting easier with every week Friday will be the last day of my 9th week and I'm feeling much better now it's just a matter of finding time and creating a schedule for doing content. I hope you have a great holiday brother
They had the week off, they play our Rival Washington this coming Saturday. If we beat them, we will finish the regular season undefeated for only the second time. Go Ducks!
Tobin expressed it was "microscopic" meaning Negligible. Reports of poor blade clamping from this razor can be found on every Forum website. It's a well known issue in the forums.
I never thought of it as chatter that I can feel, but it's a loud sounding razor which means that there's gotta be some vibration since that's what sound is. I personally think it's the best sounding razor I have, and that adds to my overall sensory experience. This is a phenomenal razor. Tobin is spot on about this being a high medium in terms of blade feel, but definitely not what most people would describe as aggressive. It's definitely one of my favorites, and on my shortlist for if I could only have one razor.
@@Leenunes007 Nice clarification response! The reason I ask about this chatter is because I once bought a d.e. razor from a close-out store and it vibrated like mad (chatter!) and gave me so many cuts to skin I could not count them.

That’s a great point about the lather flow, it works extremely well and makes me wonder if they are needed on other razors.
Have a great week Steve!
