    Another most enjoyable RH video, even if it takes Antipodeans a few years to discover it. Especially terrific was that last sequence at Haltwhistle. Thank you also for being out in the rain: it's one of those tonight (and windy) in Melbourne but at least I've the excuse that it's the start of our winter. I don't visit the UK for the summer weather!

    Thanks for braving the elements to bring viewers great images. I was lucky enough to be on this run so I didn't get to see her in the way you did. It is through the endeavours of yourself and others that really make trips for passengers that more memorable. Thanks once again and keep presenting your skills for us" less fortunate passengers"

      Cheers Martin. The rain was on and off the stopped at Oxenholme at the right moment when scotsman went past and it was the same at haltwhistle the rain started after the a3 vanished from view.

    Thank you for a great video of the truly magnificent A3 Flying Scotsman. I own a Gauge 1 live steam model of this loco' . I have to say it is at the top of my list of all the running and lovingly restored steam loco's. Many thanks again.

    Ah, Scotsman. The first officialised engine to go 100mph, Gordon's brother, the last A6, 4472, 60103, the list goes on! Love to see videos of Scotty, nice work!

      TrackMFan 'HarwickRyanStudios' did you know, flying Scotsman is Gordon's little brother, despite what the TVs show says. According to the Rev himself, Gordon is based upon an A0 prototype Pacific, and was sold to The north western railway after the A1 was finalised.

      A6? Lol flying Scotsman was originally an A1 then rebuild into A3. And there is no A6 unless it there is something completely different here in North America.

    Great video. Awesome capture of the Flying Scotsman and chasing it down to Carlisle. Lucky you caught it at speed as Flying Scotsman looks amazing and one of the finest steam and the greatest steam locomotive ever built. Well done for braving the elements. Looking forward to seeing more of The Flying Scotsman :-)

    Watched all the episodes of Full Steam Ahead with Peter Ginn, Ruth Goodman and Alex Langley, about the coming of the Steam Engine. Now watching this video of the Flying Scotsman, I got pretty emotional when she came out of the shed, after her restoration. I'm a Baby Boomer who lives in Houston, Texas, yet it affected me.

      Of course it did because those big beautiful machines capture our hearts and our imagination and indeed our spirits. I love them. They bring back my memories of traveling with my mother in the early 1950's to Cambridge for some shopping. My grandson is in love with all things steam engine and especially the Flying Scotsman. All the best from a fellow Boomer.

    A truly superb video Richard with your chase of A3 'Flying Scotsman' perfectly captured on video in all locations. Not the best of weather in some places but still a very enjoyable day all round. Very well done on this enjoyable video! Regards - Allan :-)

    Scottie is an LNER masterpiece, and looks far better without the smoke deflectors and in LNER Apple Green Livery as no. 4472.

    Watching Scotsman slip in the rainy weather reminds me of a question I've had for awhile: Are UK steam locomotives equipped with sanders like North American locomotives are?

    Can you slow a loco down going down hill with the reverser {in the reverse position} and she steam controller instead of the steam brake? Does anyone know?

    • @blockstacker5614
      @blockstacker5614 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      this sounds like a good way to damage the locomotive, but adjusting the lever to low forwards position might work for that

    What happened to 4472?

    • @davinagurl6032

      4472 is his correct number but in the end what matters most is that he's there running as grandly as ever. Let everyone enjoy him.

    It may just be me, but isn't she kind of unrecognizable? Different paint job, black wheels instead of green, only one tender?

    • @marsvltor2
      @marsvltor2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      4472 is seen here in her final condition before withdrawal in 1963, with 'all mod cons'. Kylchap double blastpipe, smoke deflectors, banjo dome, and of course in British Railways livery (and her BR running number - 60103). In this condition she is almost ghostly - how most of the A3s ran in their final months before withdrawal.

    • @bladeobrian2144
      @bladeobrian2144 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see, that explains it. Though she does look better in green apple paint with matching wheels, and of course the second tender

    • @marsvltor2
      @marsvltor2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apple green of course looks better, but with only one tender. The second tender was only acquired because water troughs were no longer available.

    • @bladeobrian2144
      @bladeobrian2144 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      does that mean water troughs are available again now?

    • @marsvltor2
      @marsvltor2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. 90% of the time, even under Pegler's ownership, 4472 carried only one tender. The second one was only used for long distance non-stop work (such as the magnificent 1968 King's Cross Non-stop to Edinburgh), and her American exploits. Since her return and all the controversy, the second tender, once again, would only be used for working non-stops on long distances…

    • @jonhoughton7590

    • @blockstacker5614
      @blockstacker5614 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      why bring two tenders when it has a scoop to refill its tank on the go from a trough between the rails?

    • @elainelethborg2550
      @elainelethborg2550 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2nd tender is for long distance travel.

    Not very importantl but what terrible design of station name boards on the West Coast.
    I can do a lot better than that.
