Joseph really Aurora Borealis'd Jillian over the nonexistent Ash Blossoms
Ash Blossom? at this time of year? at this format? in this part of the country, localized entirely within their porch?
They're steamed Ash Blossoms, a family recipe!
@@dardanikYes
@@PlayerBros2 May I see them ?
@@cerberos1no
“I could lava golem that” is such a powerful statement. Also bummed I didn’t see Raigeki. While not as powerful as it used to be, it’s still one hell of a card.
Raigeki is still really good. Lightning Storm just stole its spot despite being far worse monster removal.
@@moonjelly5 Raigeki is mostly a tool to deal with Monster-heavy decks because you can have 3-of. Against Backro-heavy decks you prefer Lighting storm though.
@@N12015 Lightning Storm is stone unplayable most of the time. You can only rely on going second so much.
@@dontmisunderstand6041or you play a stun deck like labrynth that can return its monsters and search it’s field spell to set it over your existing one if need be
I’ve sometimes had full boards just lose to raigeki, it is very strong
I can't believe Joseph almost Ash Blossomed his own marriage proposal. He was really about to get that "add one ring from deck to hand" negated.
I love the implication Jilian knows how much money Ash Blossom costed and accepted MBT asking the landlord to make sure he got it😂
Or she just assumed they had to be expensive cards from context.
"Can I see them?"
"No."
Aight fair enough, not suspect whatsoever that he won't let me see some cardboard.
“Can I see them?”
“……….no :)”
Had me dying
Big steamed hams moment
And then Poly show up and I'm dead from laughing 😂
Fun fact, Naturia Beast is now 13 years old and still one of the best things you can be doing with Synchro 5s if you have access.
Yeah, negating a spell then milling something useful...
@@N12015a? I think you forgot two L's after the a.
With an earth tuner, at least
Yup. Play this as a tech in my scareclaw tri-brigade deck 😊
You hear that? That's the sound of my bones crackling from old age.
I'll never forget when I played Jinzo in side due to paleo being so relevant. Everytime I summoned him, the peoples looks said everything. I embraced the hate and I loved it.
Branded was doing that before the Expulsion ban to hard counter Labrynth. 😛
I ran Jinzo and End of Anubis in my Infernoid deck back in Shaddoll/BA format. Hitting either off Reasoning was *chef's kiss*.
Used to run him in cyber orcust in 2019 jinzo is goated
@@RNE1993I still do that to counter trap decks, I played a labyrinth player in a game where I bricked but drew Jinzo they activated a trap and summoned a second mommy in attack and left the other in def, I used triple tactics took the attack one, ran over the defense one and tributed for Jinzo in main 2. Strangely he lost communication after that.
Drytron with jinzo is just *chefs kiss*
That Ash Blossom Engagement ring story is amazing, that needs to be a short so that I can send that to people.
I agree. The editing helps a lot too.
-Insert aurora borealis meme here-
“Can I see it?”
“No.”
@@1997dartagnan I would have been more defensive and asked her WhY? But the straigth No. is hilarious.
could clip it if you wanted to, it's less than a minute
He used ash as an excuse for his wife to not search for the engagement ring 😅 they were stopping searches before Joseph even owned them
My favorite recent Boomer Card Cameo came during Tear format. I was wandering around locals during the final round when I looked at the top table and exclaimed "Is that End of Anubis?!" He countered the Tear.
-"A playset of ash blossom? In this part of the country? At this hour of the day? Localized exclusively in this package?"
-"Yes!"
-"...May I see them?"
-"...no"
What I love seeing is cards that from day one people kept saying "one day this card will be broken" and to this day people still can't figure out a way to break them.
Snake rain and Vanity's fiend.
Snake Rain *is* broken, the problem is Reptiles have no good boss monsters except Ogdoabyss and the Alien-specific Cosmic Slicer.
Give Reptiles a Phoenix Enforcer-level generic boss monster OR print some Reptiles that have effects that activate in grave (Ogdoadics aren't enough) and Snake Rain will basically read like 4 rotas.
Snake Rain will absolutely be broken, just give reptiles a good boss monster
Snake Rain isn't "one day this card will be broken" it's "every reptile deck is bad, because Snake Rain is inherently Broken"
@@rescuerex7031I think Konami is scared to ban snake rain cause it hasn't done anything visibly wrong but it's like a demonic spectre hanging over the reptile types. Ban it so reptiles can be good
Snake rain is broken, it's just that as a consequence Konami is too afraid to make good reptile decks
skull servant be hittin different since that first pack
They really saw that dude and just said "let's build an entire story around this one dude" didn't they?
skull servent got a full family over the decades, i like to think they were the kids of reletives you never heard of showing up 20 years later.
Man that engagement ring story is peak MBT
I still cannot believe Instant Fusion was at 3 for as long as it was, also knowing the lengths people have gone through to be able to summon Cyber Dragon Infinity and Toadally Awesome circa 2016.
King Tiger Wanghu, my boy! Still played as a stun option against decks that need weak ATK summons to complete their combos. Talked about being teched to this day, as a searchable beast off of Big-Winged Berfomet in Chimera decks. On that note, once AGOV comes out and we get the new Berfomet Fusion, people are thinking of playing cards like Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and BYSER SHOCK as options for its milling effect.
God, I love this game!
Another thing about Wanghu; it was sometimes teched as a stun option in Adventurer builds, because you can get it out by using Tri-Brigade Airborne Assault on Wandering Gryphon Rider. It's the build I use to this day, so... yeah.
My favorite example of this is just Lightsworns. Its insane that this deck saw viable play for the entirety of the Synchro era and then just came right back half-way through Pendulum era and took another eternity to disappear from viability
Ok, so every intro, I gotta say, it brings back intense nostalgic memories.. I already love the 'Twitter' threads and I hope to God it doesn't stop, but damn, editing is an amazing feat! 😁 Dire!!
What is this twitter you're talking about? All i know is X
@dardanik oh I'm sorry you're right, it's called X threads now!! 🤣😉
Yeah, have you seem those X videos? They're great. @@dardanik
Hot take that aint too hot: This series would suck if it wasnt for Dire
0:07 Dire's reference to shows of the week 1:29 2nd reference in the video?!
6:51 Ash is 6 years old?!
E-tele is so insane, i main 3 and whenever it resolves youre at least doubling your likelyhood to win
I was watching 5Ds with my lil brother, and I saw Veiler get activated against Yusei and I shouted "ITS 5Ds?" Its was a couple of years old... a couple of years ago.
EDIT: E-Tele too? Damn.
Insane to think that psychics debuted in 5ds
Late 5Ds, also known as the post-edison synchro era, but so is Trishula, Naturia Beast, Genex and Hundred Eyes dragon.
The little mini arc of Joseph realising that he's old.
For anyone wondering Veiler got released January 2011.
Synchros got released 15 years ago.
Crazy.
Pendulums almost 10 years ago
Crazy
That was the single best Ash Blossom story I’ve ever heard
Joseph's wife tried to search what was inside the package and he literally ash blossomed her.
He nailed the timing perfectly. He knew if he ashed the search he could still benefit from her adding the ring to her hand.
For me the boomer cards that still good or viable in modern play in some capacity are Mystical Space Typhoon, Super Polymerization, Skill Drain and Eradicator Epidemic Virus. You can't go wrong with them.
Mst is powercrept by cyclone but yeah
You reminded me of my proposal
It was just a complete normal regular day. We didn’t have anything planned. We just decided to watch some shows on the couch. But little did she know. I have the thieving hands of a GOD
I took off her necklace, put the engagement ring through the necklace and put it back onto her all without her noticing.
It took 5 hours until she noticed the ring on her necklace at which was my signal to get down and propose
Idk if people realize this but cards like book of moon that are both old and still goo can just be reprinted in newer sets. That's what some other TCGs with rotations do. Also completely busted cards can be reprinted with an errata so they don't need to be on a perma ban list.
The problem is that there is no guarantee yhat they'll do that. Yes, it is the best case scenario, but that doesn't happen all the time
The benefit of rotation is that it removes good cards from the game.
But the thing is that there's a lot of times in Yugioh when some random old card will become meta for the first time
Rotation prevents stuff like that from ever happening because why would they keep a bunch of cards that no one has ever played?
the problem with rotation is that i can't think of a single TCG that it helped, and plenty that died shortly after introducing it
Ok so you’re just gonna put your faith in Konami to stabilize Yugioh with good reprints when Konami got us into the mess of modern Yugioh?
Quick somebody make a Superintendent Chalmers and Principal Skinner meme with MBT and the Ash Blossom package. “Can I see them?..mmmno.”
My friends and I were playing a guessing game where you ask someone a series of yes or no questions about a card to then guess what their card was. They narrowed my card to a spell that had no "cost" special summoned from the extra deck, a pre gx era card, and was not archtype specific (could be played in multiple decks) The look on their faces when they've built this card up in the heads to be something as absurd and powerful as instant fusion to then learn as they conceded that it was simply polymerization was priceless
ok
7:46 They say art mimics life, but here I see life mimicking art as MBT does the freakin' Seymour Skinner sketch before my very eyes!
imagine a cool, osillating type format, where they could make all these cards legal and the primo removal and tech options
polymerization has got to be the funniest answer to this prompt
it's basically just a core game mechanic that happens to be a card. like what if you had to play a card to go to battle phase. that's poly.
Shoutout to the person in chat who said “Ok, but when was she printed?” In response to the “Ash Blossom is 6 years old” post
D.D. crow despite being so simple still sees tons of play evrn after all these years
IMO book of moon is the best designed yugioh card. its simple, strong, almost never problematic, and has really cool high level tech to it.
LMAO. Can I see those Ash's you bought?
No.
XD
Joseph doing his best Skinner impression saying "no" to seeing the engagement ring.
Poly is played to this day in some Chimera decks, as part of the Patchwork Frightfur engine. Something that was also considered in Chimera: OG Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast, due to it being able to be teched out by Fusion Armament.
Honestly one of my favorite deckbuilding moments was realizing on my own that gold sarc was a huge plus in thunder dragons. I wasn't the first obviously to notice but it's always nice to find broken things without having to look them up.
Counter point to the rotation take that most old cards are floodgates: Just ban those floodgates, its like 5 continuous traps that show up every now and then and would not bloat the banlist at all.
Yea it's like 5 cards. We've had banlists that banned more than that in one go
It's more than 5 and not all of them are traps.
Skill Drain, Rivalry, Gozen, TCBOO (it's a 5 year-old card), Macro, DiFi, Anti-Spell, Summon Limit, Imperial Iron Wall, Decree, Droll (yes it is a floodgate), Lancea, every Barrier Statue (Stormwinds is gone but all other attributes are still legal and waiting), El Shaddol Winda, Necrovalley, and more.
Not all are equally playable at all times but enough have enough overlap to be simultaneously played and YGO's floodgates are overwhelmingly comprehensive.
I enjoy them but having every single one being legal at the same time as each other is not good. One solution would be to create a lost like Duel Link's/Speed Duel's Limit 3 category for specific cards.
@@thorscape3879 putting something on the list as limited 3 or banned doesnt make much of a difference for bloat.
Duel links style banlist is way harder to keep track of and will cause issues with new players and casuals, in DL its automated which takes care of potential misunderstandings.
Also most of those floodgates arent regularly causing issues and are more severe tools against 1 specific deck type should it become too represented in the meta.
As always rotation probably wouldnt fix this anyway as konami clearly wants floodgates around otherwise anti spell wouldve gotten banned after last years nats format.
@@thorscape3879I'm going to keep it a stack: complain about Droll and Lock Bird is a massive red flag. That card only sees play when the meta is run by the most degenerate decks imaginable. The only times I remember it being good enough to play were times like Spyral format, 2018 and all that year's associated awful decks, Herald Drytron, and the week long SHS format from last year. To me, if you're complaining about Droll, I have some questions about what you'd like to be doing that Droll isn't letting you do.
leaving yugioh right before ash release was the biggest mistake in my career, starting the game again on drytron was the second biggest
I got my wife a Bolova watch for our anniversary and I also used cards as an excuse. I was so proud of myself and when she learned of my deceit she thought it was the funniest thing how many backup explanations I had that all relied on never potentially knowing what I'm talking about
Monster reborn will always be my pick for this.
Sure there’s 1 million ways till next Sunday to interact with it but sometimes being able to bring back a monster for any type of extra deck play or for a tribute if you’re still playing monarchs for whatever reason goes a long way.
Also as always shout outs to Dier.
"3 Ash Blossoms? At this time of day, at this time of year, in this part of the country, localized entirely within our porch?
"Yes."
"May I see it?"
"Mmm no."
I had hope for the newly announced time wizard formats but nother ever came from it around me, would love to sit down and play a couple rounds with my boomer decks
I absolutely loved that story at the end
It's always fun to see what DM era card crop up when a new format rolls around, until you see someone roll up with Skill Drain, Gozen, and Rivalry in the side.
I feel like if you see someone play skill drain, physical violence should be allowed
Astral Barrier and Spirit Barrier are my must haves for ANY deck that messes with Flip Effects imho. Look both Traps up, you'll see why their a Constant in my Ghostrick deck....
No, the real big brains use those traps in combination with Neo-Spacian Air Hummingbird and Golden Ladybug to get a Ra with 80000+ ATK onto the field.
I use them in toons as backups in case something happens to Kingdom
That Ash story at the end was great.
The DM staples episode.
I remember when the ghost girls were announced. I was walking through Wal-Mart picking up some sketchbooks when i got a notification from twitter talking about them. At first i was excited because i saw "Zombie" on Ash Blossom cause i love Zombies. Took one look at the art and went "What the fuck?" read the effect and said "Sounds weird. I don't think it'll be useful". Boy how wrong i was.
"Ash Blossom is 6 years old"
"Wait, the card or the character?"
6:51 That response to Ash Blossom is going to come back to bite Joseph in the butt as an audio file
Honestly amazes me to this day that many archetypes has their own version of Monster Reborn.
Very few still images have jumscared me but this thumbnail is one of them
I rember when i summon kash arise when i was yong. What a good time.
Resonance Insect has been waiting for a deck for 10 years now.
So, I didn't think about it until much later, but Probably one of my favorite Old Cards would be Machina Fortress. Easy to Summon 2500 Body as long as you can Pitch Machines up to level 8, that Punished your opponent for Killing it in Battle or getting rid of it via Targeted Removal, could Easily Become 5k with a Single Limiter Removal, is a Solid Extender, especially in EARTH Machine, and possible starter depending on the Machines you pitched, and did I mention that the Summon is NOT Once Per Turn and can even use itself as the Cost? Hell, I made a Friend of mine just hate Fortress because he would get rid of it just for me to summon it back the next turn. It was Hilarious XD
"Good Lord! Why're they telling me about a package!?"
"Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring"
"A-Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring!?!? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, all within your package!?!?"
"Yes!"
"May I see them?"
"No"
Oh yeah, I never did reply to that thread. Uhh...
Shoutouts to Cannon Soldier, critter format goat still performing FTKs in 2023.
You know the best old staple: OCG and Master Duel's menace: EARTH Insect
Hammer Shot, or as I like to call it "baronne bait", is a hilarious tech I enjoy jumpscarring people with.
Had someone try and book of moon my 8 material Expurrely Noir yesterday, lol
I got a story for the lava golem pick. About 2 years ago I was playing at a locals where they were doing rental decks of old, mid modern and modern. I had the modern deck and the other person had an old school deck. I set up a full board and went “yeah I think this a good board I’m good to pass”. Kid I was playin looks me dead in the eyes and goes “I think I can lava golem that.” He OTKd me with pure effect damage doing 6k in one turn then with standby proc for the lava golems hit 8k. Moment he pulled out two lava golems I had my head in my hands just muttering “I fucking hate this game….”
By far my favorite spell in the game is still card destruction. And while it might not be a meta staple all the time. It's still going to have a guaranteed spot in my danger dark world deck.
Uraby as the level 4 vanilla in Xeno Dino
Why would you use uraby instead of sabersaurus?

I love when entire archtypes from the 2000s become playable again because of Modern Support, none of them ever hit like. Top tier or even close but shit like Crystal Beast, Volcanic and Synchron are playable to this day.
"GOOD LORD WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THAT BOX"
"Ash playset?"
"Ash playset? at this time of year? at this time of day? in this part of the country? localized entirely in that box?!"
"Yes!"
"...may i see it?'
"...no"
3 months before Marionette Mite being playable against Unchained, one of its sister cards, Electric Virus, was seeing play in Duel Links tournaments coz the 3 best decks were Orcust, Odd-Eyes which was ending at the time on Voloferniges the Darkest Dragon Doomrider and a rank 4, usually Abyss Dweller, and Speedroid ending on Crystalwing plus Clear Wing. Electric Virus lets you Change of Heart Machine and Dragon monsters. There were 20 card lists that included 3 Electric Virus and 3 Mind Control.
God that format was not particularly fun.
Rotation doesn't mean all the cards have to go. It just means the format has to be better curated.
An alternative equivalent would be being far more aggressive with the ban list.
Both require Konami to be highly proactive though which is something it demonstrably doesn't want to be.
Counterpoint: Wizards of the Coast uses rotation for MtG specifically so they can be lax with bans. If MtG was even half as aggressive with their ban list as Yugioh is, it'd be in a much better place than it is right now.
Yeah even with rotation Pokémon and Magic still have power creep issues so I’m really wondering why people think Rotation will help Yugioh.
Yeah keep in mind that the older formats in MTG are very popular, and they also don't want to be snapshot formats a la GOAT, so you can't just permanently lower the power level unless you want literally every new release to be unplayable in Modern or something.
@@hatefulgaming1800 I have no problem with stronger cards. The boon of rotation or more aggressive F&L lists is to intentionally curb the power of strategies that are stronger than they should be.
Puppet locking is total bullshit but it is a neat tech. What wasn't neat was how free it was with Branded Expulsion. Now you have to use Sacrifire which requires an all-in turn 1 combo.
Rotation also mostly solves the problem of low power set releases as the definition of low power is constantly relative. An expanded format is allowed to still exist but a rotated standard format or at least a more aggressive F&L list goes a long way.
@@thorscape3879 Expanded formats have been known to die in most rotation games that aren't MTG and even there its prohibitively expensive.
The whole argument for rotation is that you get to print cards that break the format if they were legal at the same time and they are, in expanded.
Which leads to those formats becoming hellscapes of super fast aggro decks and very consistent combo decks.
The other side of the coin is MtG where every product release has maybe 3 cards that are relevant to older formats and the only way to actually get some meta shift is to wait on the modern horizons set every 2 years.
There are already alternative formats, grouped together under the name Time Wizard.
You'd probably get a lot less push back on rotation formats if you made clear that they'd only be options besides Advanced (and Traditional?) and not replace it.
That jillian story is so sweet and hilarious
I love getting lava golemed when they dont have an out for it. Like when my opponent gives me an 8k nibiru token to smack them with

Steamed hamsing Gillian will stay in my brain forever
The Ash Blossom story got me so hard I started coughing up a lung lol.

MBT trying to convince himself Effect Veiler isn't old is hilarious 😂 bro, that card can almost legally drive. It came out in like 2010 🎉
I would imagine little kids in Japan think this about Accesscode Talker, I mean it came out two Yu-Gi-Oh series before the current one.
flower cardian can play allure in the ftk variants because for some reason all of them are dark and its pretty silly there
And also dark eruption not only fetches you cardians, but also exodia pieces outta the grave
The entire frog archetype fits the bill
MBT - *Sees Effect Veiler: “This card is not that old, this card is still not old enough to be-
Also MBT - *See POT OF DUALITY: “The card that started it all…”
(Narrator: Little what MBT knew, Effect Veiler and Pot of Duality were part of the same set: Duelist Revolution, and Pot even cost about $120 - $360 for a set of three, upon release and a few more sets before getting a reprint…)
Seeing Polymerization actually blew my mind
Monster Reborn is one of those cards where it's always been good but nobody plays it much in competitive. Having a generic GY summon can be powerful, but these days there's so much in-archetype GY summoning that Monster Reborn is kind of obsolete in a way. I'm wondering if maybe it could come off the banlist or at least go to semi-limited cause I don't see it that often. A lot of us thought Change of Heart was too strong to come of the banlist but it hasn't had an affect on the meta at all, so maybe. Also, all of those floodgates gotta be on the banlist in some way. The fact that Gozen, Rivalry, AND Skill Drain aren't even limited is baffling to me, they've been strong since day 1 of their printing.
Both monster reborn and change of heart are 10 times better at 3 then at 1. 3 ofs will influence how you can build a deck whereas if a card is at 1 then you cant really build with that card in mind, and it becomes an addition rather than a core for the deck. The same goes for other cards like foolish burial, card of demise, reasoning etc
Heres some more old cards that are still useful if not powerful in modern yugioh:
Jinzo, the virus cards, gren maju garzet da eiza, DD warrior lady, penguin soldier, summon limit, trade-in, red eyes darkness dragon, waboku/the battle roar trap, battle fader, secret village, dark paladin, rainbow neos, heralds, kristya.
the ash blossom story was so good XD
That ash blossom story was so good!😂
Can someon explain the reason why someone would play Aqua Dolphin in Mikanko? I might be reading it wrong but I don't see the synergy
summon it with connector and then make isolde to summon the red child
I'm starting to tune in more to see what cartoon intros you make a mockery of.
Ash being as old as her artwork now is kinda funny to me for some reason
Lol the lava golem story tho 😂
BoM was such a fun card during Synchro era.
Was Polymerization even playable before the 5Ds format when we started getting GX manga Heroes with generic fusion requirements? Competitively of course.
Man I love Book of Moon. Masochist series staple!
Unchained likely won't get hit too hard. I'm expecting Tour Guide to 1 on the next list, and that'll be it for now.
It doesnt need a hit, konami just needs to release good decks again.
till this day i can't believe doug is that buffed without going to the gym
the engagement ring story is so good
When ash blossom came out I was in middle school, now I’m a freshman in college. Damn I feel old
