If you CANNOT get the DNS exploit to work, you can currently still use the browser exploit. Go into the Wii U internet browser and type "wiiuexploit.xyz" and hold b after pressing run exploit to get the and dumper. Also Please do not forget to change DNS settings back to auto!!

When I did the DNS exploit, it skipped the NAND backup screen and went straight to the Boot selector. For anyone who might have a small heart attack like me, here's the solution: I turned off my console and took out my SD card to see if it somehow backed up automatically. It didn't. So I put my card back in the console and when I booted up, all of the added apps were gone. I went to my settings, turned on auto-obtain DNS, tested the connection, and then did the browser exploit by following the guide linked in the Google doc. I'm sure the DNS exploit still works. I was probably just dumb and did something wrong. But I didn't brick my console, so that's a plus.
Yup, just happened to me! very very glad it didn't brick when I turned the system off (phew!). I turned off auto-obtain but the xyz exploit took me straight to the environment loader. for anyone else stuck : add your wifi again under a new connection, run the xyz exploit, hold B. don't unplug your WII U & don't touch your SD (in the middle of it doing something)
@@sillaysponge I think the exploit is safer than we give it credit for. For some consoles, you have to actually try in order to brick it. It’s not really something that happens on accident. It’s just scary when you’re following a TH-cam tutorial and yours doesn’t do the same thing as the video lol

I have tiramisu currently, and I forget what it was but there was something about aroma that was missing a feature that I use in tiramisu, maybe it was playing injected wii/gc games from the wii u menu? or maybe it was that retroarch doesn't work on aroma? I have heard you can have both aroma and tiramisu installed and just swap between them as needed, just wondering what's missing in aroma that i'd need to swap back to tiramisu for.

Y'all are better off with just modding a Wii U, Wii, or 3DS. Switch is too risky. If there's any emulators you truly want, get them on something else you can hook up to your TV that isn't a current console.

Thank you for making such a detailed tutorial. It took me 3.5 hours to do though. I'm on Mac and while it can format to Fat32, there is no option for the partition allocation giblets. I tried with the terminal but eventually turned to my antique Windows 10 laptop. I had to use the Wii U exploit site since the DNS method wasn't working for me. I also had trouble moving the Wii U storage backup to my hard disk connected to my computer so good thing my Wii U didn't get bricked.

I wanted to ask you if you plan on doing also a tutorial for other emulators on the Wii since it's capable of playing basically every game before its launch. I tried installing WiiFlow with the Carbonik theme as a emulator interface because it has animations for the game covers and I'm having trouble installing it because all I found was on forums and I didn't quite understand how to make it function properly. And since it's a discontinued theme everyone uses Rhapsodii Shima but i prefer the look of Carbonik better so yeah which one do you prefer and if you plan on making videos on how to set emulators on WiiFlow with also different themes for every liking haha. I did this and it sent me to a bootloader screen in the part where you have to hold B, which sent me back to the wii u menu now what? i tried to hold b again but cant get the software to appear again
Update: I figured it out had to retry a couple times. Sometimes i had to hold down the x button and sometimes i had to hold down the b button to get it to boot correctly, for some reason. But the second thing was to get to the Nand screen you have to keep holding down the button past the black screen with the mug and Gary’s name. Afterwards it took me to the nand backup screen like in the video
This is an excellent video. I you are are switching to aroma go through it slowly and do it in stages. First build the required SD card slowly check and double check, pause, back up restart, make sure you got it perfect as it is the key. Do the same once you start the installation. Being a newbie I could not do this all in one sitting. I would make notes at the time in the video where i stopped so I could restart later. Well I am happy with my new Aroma Wii U. If I can do it anyone can with this video. Just do not rush it, I was at it on and off for a few days.
I ran into a small issue after I dumped my Wii U's NAND. I was able to copy all the system backup files over to a folder on my desktop, however, mlc.bin.part15 won't copy because "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". Will I still be able to restore my Wii U from bricking without it or do I need to dump the NAND all over again?
Thank you SO much for these clear steps, every other website or tutorial never specifies which or where to put the app store file, I had other guides have me download a whole folder with multiple files and have me leave it on the root which of course didn't work. and thanks for the additional software and details no one ever mentions

during the aroma update part, make sure your Wii U is set to the current date or else it will error. for some reason my console was set to 2014? 💀💀 simple settings fix though
Hey guys, I need help. Any software I put to folders doesn't stay in there anymore and when i try to make new folders, the software doesn't stay in folders and the folders disappear. What should i do to fix it?

Ok so I did the NAND backup, It went well. But when I tried again to boot the DNSpresso, It shows a memory error message (The 160). I thought It bricked, but when I tried to boot up diferent games, I could play them. So... What's happening? (Sorry for my bad spelling, English is my third language). EDIT: I just redownloaded everything except the sigpatches. It worked

thanks still working as of 5/04/2024.. i couldn't get the payload installer to come up on homescreen doing it via doing it the browser wiiuexploit followed this step by step and it worked. this method should work after the 8th of April

Followed the tutorial, but when I reached DNSpresso the first time (10:19) it put me straight at the environment loader (13:40). I'm not seeing the nand dumper option.
Every time I get to the part where I do the connection test and press ‘B’ it does not go into the payload nandumper…. I have tried with a 2nd Wii U that I have… same thing. I reformatted the sd card, and reinstalled everything… same thing.
So I did this exploit and I didn’t get the “Please choose your payload” screen at 10:19, instead bringing me straight to the Environment Loader screen at 13:41. Now that my console is fully modded can I still go back into DNSpresso and back up my NAND or is it too late?
When using a HDD to backup and store my games, do I still need to have the SD card installed? Or does the HDD basically replace the SD? (aka I port everything over from the SD to the HDD?)

Hey I'm completely new to Wii U hacking and just put Aroma on my friend's Wii U. He mostly plays emulators so thats why I'm trying to put on but nothing is showing up. I also googled Wii U Aroma Emulators and pretty much got nothing. Do you know if I'll have to install Tiramisu to get that kinda stuff working? (Wii64 is the first emulator I tried putting on) Also tried retroarch but that just freezes, I assume because it isnt a wuhb file?
Tried doing this, put everything on an old Lexar SDHC 16GB multi use SD card that worked for a DS. But no luck getting this mod to work. I am connected to a public Wi-Fi network and changed the DNS, but every time I hold B it connects to the network but says failed to connect to the internet. I believe I have followed everything in the guide correctly, any idea why this isn’t working? My Wii U is version 5.5.6

I can’t get past the health and safety part. When holding X the screen just goes black and the system freezes. It still plays the Wii U menu music in the background, but won’t let me do anything. I have to reset the console and go back through the test connection step to get back into Aroma.
Can i ask u sth? My update to aroma is fine. When i copy the file to install games, some files show up & some files not( i mean in wup installer). What should i do? 😢
Hey there! Can you help me with something? When I get to the exploit part the screen shows the DNSpresso logo, but after 4 seconds or so my Wii U shows an error screen. I bought it jailbroken some years ago (never knew what the jailbreak software was) but it updated automatically and I lost everything, so I think it might be related to that. Hey so I homebrewed my Wii U with the browser exploit. On that red update screen it gave me the option to press x to block updates… so now I never see that screen anymore. Do I still need to delete the update folder?
I got a error when trying to do the nand backup. It said "Welcome to NAND dumper! Init SD Card . . . Success! Detected 32 GB MLC NAND type. Writing otp... Failed to open /otp.bin for writing! Error! - > rebooting . . ." And it just boots be back to the wii u menu. is there a way to fix it.
When i format the sd card to FAT32 to put the mods it cant be registered by the wii u. When i format the sd card through the wii u it cant be read by my laptop or my phone, what do i do?
Quick question. When I get to the WUDD part it says Dumping done. Press A to return. But then the Wudump file is empty. Any idea why? Am I doing something wrong?

Glad it worked! And it's actually not possible to install your backups to an SD card for Wii u. The reason is that when you set up a storage device, it needs to be formatted by the Wii u which wipes everything after you insert it into your Wii u. Hopefully I explained that okay :P
tip for people, when running the exploit, sometimes it doesn't work. my connection was stuck loading and never booted into the environment loader. when i set up the payloadloader and reset my console, it also just booted into the normal wii u firmware. both times i just turned the console off and on again and it fixed it
say if you have followed this but want to change the se card can you take the sd card out of the wii u transfer the files from the old sd card to the new sd card and then put it back into the wiiu?

It happened to me, but I just tried again and It didn't skip this time. Remember to not let g B until you see the NAND backup menu

I deleted internet profile then recreated it. That seemed to work

I was able to copy all the system backup files over to a folder on my desktop, however, mlc.bin.part15 won't copy because "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". Will I still be able to restore my Wii U from bricking without it or do I need to dump the NAND all over again?

during the aroma update part, make sure your Wii U is set to the current date or else it will error. for some reason my console was set to 2014? 💀💀 simple settings fix though

Any software I put to folders doesn't stay in there anymore and when i try to make new folders, the software doesn't stay in folders and the folders disappear.
What should i do to fix it?

Ok so I did the NAND backup, It went well.
But when I tried again to boot the DNSpresso, It shows a memory error message (The 160).
I thought It bricked, but when I tried to boot up diferent games, I could play them.
So... What's happening?

thanks still working as of 5/04/2024.. i couldn't get the payload installer to come up on homescreen doing it via doing it the browser wiiuexploit followed this step by step and it worked. this method should work after the 8th of April

Followed the tutorial, but when I reached DNSpresso the first time (10:19) it put me straight at the environment loader (13:40). I'm not seeing the nand dumper option.

Every time I get to the part where I do the connection test and press ‘B’ it does not go into the payload nandumper….
I have tried with a 2nd Wii U that I have… same thing. I reformatted the sd card, and reinstalled everything… same thing.
So I did this exploit and I didn’t get the “Please choose your payload” screen at 10:19, instead bringing me straight to the Environment Loader screen at 13:41. Now that my console is fully modded can I still go back into DNSpresso and back up my NAND or is it too late?
If I have nothing on my WiiU, do I need a 32gb microsd card to back up the console? Would less be enough?
Does the usb or external HDD have to be formatted as FAT32?

When using a HDD to backup and store my games, do I still need to have the SD card installed? Or does the HDD basically replace the SD? (aka I port everything over from the SD to the HDD?)

@funkyscott47 if you use a larger SD card say 128gb for an example. Will the FAT32 formater restrict the 128gb card to a 32gb?
no
FAT32 is just a file system. Because it includes the integer 32 doesnt mean that it will restrict it

Hey I'm completely new to Wii U hacking and just put Aroma on my friend's Wii U. He mostly plays emulators so thats why I'm trying to put on but nothing is showing up. I also googled Wii U Aroma Emulators and pretty much got nothing. Do you know if I'll have to install Tiramisu to get that kinda stuff working? (Wii64 is the first emulator I tried putting on) Also tried retroarch but that just freezes, I assume because it isnt a wuhb file?
Tried doing this, put everything on an old Lexar SDHC 16GB multi use SD card that worked for a DS. But no luck getting this mod to work. I am connected to a public Wi-Fi network and changed the DNS, but every time I hold B it connects to the network but says failed to connect to the internet. I believe I have followed everything in the guide correctly, any idea why this isn’t working? My Wii U is version 5.5.6

I can’t get past the health and safety part. When holding X the screen just goes black and the system freezes.
It still plays the Wii U menu music in the background, but won’t let me do anything.
I have to reset the console and go back through the test connection step to get back into Aroma.

Hey there! Can you help me with something? When I get to the exploit part the screen shows the DNSpresso logo, but after 4 seconds or so my Wii U shows an error screen. I bought it jailbroken some years ago (never knew what the jailbreak software was) but it updated automatically and I lost everything, so I think it might be related to that. I'd appreciate a lot if you could help me!

Hey so I homebrewed my Wii U with the browser exploit. On that red update screen it gave me the option to press x to block updates… so now I never see that screen anymore. Do I still need to delete the update folder?

When i format the sd card to FAT32 to put the mods it cant be registered by the wii u. When i format the sd card through the wii u it cant be read by my laptop or my phone, what do i do?
Quick question. When I get to the WUDD part it says Dumping done. Press A to return. But then the Wudump file is empty. Any idea why? Am I doing something wrong?

Glad it worked! And it's actually not possible to install your backups to an SD card for Wii u. The reason is that when you set up a storage device, it needs to be formatted by the Wii u which wipes everything after you insert it into your Wii u. Hopefully I explained that okay :P

tip for people, when running the exploit, sometimes it doesn't work. my connection was stuck loading and never booted into the environment loader. when i set up the payloadloader and reset my console, it also just booted into the normal wii u firmware. both times i just turned the console off and on again and it fixed it

say if you have followed this but want to change the se card can you take the sd card out of the wii u transfer the files from the old sd card to the new sd card and then put it back into the wiiu?
