So many restarts on that big GS. Time for a smaller bike

I have been through there many times with my Jeep. I would never think of taking my V Strom through that. So many rocks. I have written it through Joshua tree, many times up to the backside of that but the roads are much nicer once you get through the Canyon

I see the big GS rider bought into the Dunlop Trailmax hype. 😅 That tire is out of place in that cyn, especially on a heavy bike being ridden with little momentum. He’s lucky to have you help.

The trailmax is what’s used by Rawhyde for literally noobs in the Mojave and on seriously rocky terrain. It’s plenty capable

@@ghostbuster187 Thought they used the Mitas E07…in any case I wouldn’t use Rawhyde as a benchmark. The Trailmax lasts longer, but that comes at the cost of increased weight and off-road performance.

@@chamade166 the trailmax acts literally fine in deep sand , gravel pits and straight up rock gardens.
The increased weight isn’t a huge deal wither when properly trained to handle the weight of a m adv bike

@@ghostbuster187 Fine is relative. They are better than a street tire, but not a good idea for this type of riding. They are more of a 80/20 tire.

What a great trail to ride with a buddy. Glad you two made it out safe and sound!

This video proves the point that it’s not the bike it’s the rider. Conventional wisdom would say a 1250 GS should easily outperform a 310 GS. No offense to your riding partner but your skill and confidence on the smaller bike was the difference. Nice to watch your riding improve as your confidence grew during the ride. What was total time for riding the canyon?

I believe it was around 2 hours with all the stops.

Great video. I rode Pinkham Canyon last week and it nearly killed me with the deep soft sand. I was solo and also on a GS. I'm going back next week and want to try Berdoo... have you done Pinkham and if so, how would you compare the two. Id also prob ride from the top down (starting on Geology tour) unless you think thats harder. Thanks.

I rode Thermal and pinkham canyon too in this video. th-cam.com/video/86GTJtOr9gw/w-d-xo.html. Berdoo is easier from geology tour road because you go down rock ledges instead of up. I only rode berdoo starting from dillon road/shooting range.

@@ScottyADV Thanks :). Pinkham on a loaded R1200GS was a nightmare, looking fwd to Berdoo.

How long did it take you to finish the trail man?

    • @ScottyADV
      @ScottyADV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

With all the stopping probably 2-3 hours. If you ride through at a faster pace it would take under 2 hours.

    Nice video.
Dude, I've had 75 subs for the past ten years but I started putting a ton of time in on my channel and I've gotten over 2,000 new subs in the past 3 weeks!
I'm at 2,268 right now. At this rate, I'm expecting to hit ten thousand by this summer!
