Hey Scotty. New subscriber here and love the content. I’m thinking about getting a DR650 and it would be cold to see what mods you have done so far. ✌🏼
@@MatthewBrigham-1 that video will be coming soon. Thanks for watching.
I don’t see why people have to ride like a bat out of hell when you’re in a group that only are you risking crashing but you miss the scenery
Those ruts are from people stopping before they go up the hill lol you never stopped before the hill!
Great videography really good sound and great commentary. You have a presence young man fantastic journeys.
I’ve had almost 14 bikes. My current is a GS 1200 which is fantastic to ride long distance. I’m 62 years old. I keep looking at a DR 650. It brings back a lot of memories, but I’m not sure I would bounce the same at my age.
The GS is a mile muncher for sure. Haha why not keep the GS and get a dual sport for a 2nd bike?
To answer your question about the power lines, what the linemen do is the add rollers on the tower arms and once the Rogers are on the run ropes threw the rollers. The rope is connected on one end to the wire which is on a large wire pulling truck, and on the other end is another truck that spools up the rope until the wire runs out. Then they switch the wire rollers on the tower to wire arms which hold the wire in place. Hopefully that answers your questions
@@The_Soulless_Life thanks for the info! It's crazy to think how everything is built.
@ScottyADV yah, i got to work alongside the Lineman out in the mountains north of Los Angeles for a few years and it was really cool watching them do there thing.
Szeretem nézni a videóidat! Néha mondj pár szót arról is, hogy viselkedik a Dr, és hogy meg vagy-e elégedve vele. Hello from Hungary.
@@hdevo80 thank you for watching!
Thats my kind of adventure. Something you will always remember.
How did you get from Covington to Old dale? Just 62?
@distilledfreedom1840 yes got gas in town and took 62 east. Thanks for watching.
Part of Easy Rider was shot on the road around Sunset Crater.
Stop by in FLG the next time and we'll go together. Fantastic ride. You showed me things I didn't know about. Many thanks.
@homunculous007 thanks for watching. Flagstaff is definitely on my return list. Hope to be back one day.
"When you come to the fork in the road, take it." - Yogi Berra.
Stop in when you are in Flagstaff.
Good video. Do you post your tracks into Gaia?
thanks for watching. I use Gaia to preview tracks before sending them to my Zumo XT GPS.
No need to worry about those steers unless they run out in front of you. 😅 Although if it’s a bull then run for it! 😂
Like the way you set up your bike. Have you done any videos in regard to that?
@@squid148 not yet, soon I will!
I wonder how heavy is your set up with all the bags? I need to take my xt250 up that trail
@@zidjanarie haha probably close to 400lbs
@@ScottyADV That's not too bad...if only the Dr is lower. I think it's very underrated.
I love it.
Great vibe and content. I have camped there also on my DR.
@@fuscavw1 DRs FTW, thanks for watching.
I really enjoy your channel. Fun, entertaining, and I get to see new places to ride. Thank you!
@@pauldivona2003 I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for uploading the full 4K version! A lot of people don't do that because it takes so long to upload. We have 1.3 Gbps fiber at home and a giant TV so your videos stream at 2160p and look great!
Hey my name is Bobby I would like to know what kind of luggage you have I see it’s Tusk just don’t know which one I’ve road dual sport most of my younger years but I just got a XR650l and want to start moto camping I’ve learned a lot watching your videos keep riding I love watching your channel
@@robertclark499 thanks for watching, I use a tusk 22L duffel and nelson rigg hurricane saddle bags.
also you DR build looks sick!
I love how you hear much fun you are having as you talk! offroad adventure is so much fun. If you adventure by yourself a lot you should get an InReach for safty :)
@@andy3d1 thanks for watching, I never leave home without it.
Nice riding! How do I find that start of the trail you were in?
@betobeto7903 thanks for watching. Lookup Abandoned concrete mill near Desert Hot Springs, CA in google maps.
@@ScottyADV Thanks! in the process of buying a Honda 300L and trying to fine near by places that are not to far from where I live near Montebello where the 60 and 605 meet and its not easy. If you have any other places in my area do let me know. Thanks and keep having those rides going!
The closest decent riding by you is santa clarita by Hungry Valley or the Cajon pass by the 15/210.
Footage looks great!
@@CozyEXPPlus thanks brudda!
That snake @ 7:35 appears to be a sonoran coachwhip, but I'd need a better image to confirm. Let me know when you're coming back out here I'd love to tag along on my XT225!
One heck of a trip right there. You are exactly right about having to break up the BDR's. Most of us normal people can't take off enough time or save the amount of $$$ to complete one of these trips in one shot. It took me 2 trips for both the NMBDR and UTBDR. I am hoping to get out to the AZBDR next year. I have the time off but the $$$ will be the hard part. I'm in Houston Tx so just budgeting the fuel for my diesel truck there and back is quite expensive alone.
@BigDaveTALKS absolutely, better to experience some than none.
You, me and MANY others are adventure seekers. Sunshine and rainbows do not always make fun stories. Stuff like this is what makes you better. We all take gambles and sometimes they pay off and like this, sometimes they don't. I have been there too on the NMBDR. Now for the Dad and preachy part...Stop berating yourself, it's never a good thing to do bud. As I was going along the NMBDR, in the same situation, i was enjoying the beauty of the ominous weather while riding an overloaded Africa Twin. Nerve racking? YES. Out of my comfort zone? YES. Questioning my decisions? YEEESS. Having an awesome time? ABSOLUTELY. Very few of us really get to, or think about, enjoying everything that nature offers us. We say good and bad weather, it's just weather and we should respect it and enjoy it and bring the right gear to protect our fragile little bodies..lol. Great job on getting this done and when I am on the AZBDR next year, I will turn around when I see those clouds😂.
@BigDaveTALKS haha thanks for watching. It was an unforgettable experience for sure. Now one of my favorite memories. Thanks for watching.
@@ScottyADV you betcha
Cool man. We've been thru there many times. Always stay in Palm Desert when we're traveling through Cali. Beautiful area, and they have a Trader Joe's.
Another great ride
@@thomaspoindexter606 thank you for watching! I hope to make more BDR videos.
What a great ride
now thats an adventure
Rewatched this video looking for a part I thought I remembered… you struggled on the narrow loose trail going up a hill somewhere between mammoth and winklemen? Dropped the bike and was not having fun… did I mis-remember this?
@chrisknight5263 haha that was on Section 4 in the rock gardens before winona. To me the most difficult part of my trip was section 4. Didn't drop my bike until then.
Hey Scotty. I think one of the reasons I enjoy your vlogs is there's no pretense. No filter. You speak freely about your experience and emotions as you ride and we're just along for the ride and also cringing at the same obstacles. Thanks again mate, and keep it up. 👌
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoy the video style. I try to keep it authentic haha.
Nice video! I have to say that selfie stick pointing in the direction of travel makes me nervous throughout the video :P
@PandaintheDirt thank you for watching! Haha it's my jousting stick.
@ScottyADV I think that you need a extra mirror ball mount and move the camera to the LHS. May spear it through less bushes. Haha
DR 650 owner here. Purchase and install Goldetyre "fatty" 90/100 21 front tire and Tusk Deport 130/90-17 rear. Your bike will traverse noticeablely better through sand.
Love your videos, you crack me up! How do you like the shorter arms on your mirrors?
@@DrDanTDC thanks for watching! The shorter stems are ok. I think the vibration is worse than the long arms. Might switch back to the 6 inch.
As scary as it sounds, speed is your friend in the sand. Shift into the next gear and lean back a bit.
What tank bag are you using on your DR?
@mikebotha5936 Mosko Moto Gnome tank bag. A versatile piece of gear.
Great ride and pretty good skills I live in the area and I know that terrain can be rough especially the deep sand.
Thanks! Yeah, the sand can be a real challenge in the area.
Nice video! How are you liking the DR650? I am in the market and the DR650 is near the top of the list, but still a bit hesitant to buy carburetor in 2024. Any thoughts to alleviate my concerns :)
@twowheeladventures63 it's a wonderful do it all bike that can be customized to your riding style. Of course within reason. It's a comprise bike jack of all trades master of none. Easy to work on and plenty of DIY resources. Just be realistic about what you want out of the bike. For me it's my only bike so I wanted an all rounder kind of bike.
@@ScottyADV Thanks man! The DR is what I value most (reliable, self-maintenance; able to pick up, and highway capable with off-road focus). I just need to remember those things when I get caught up in the new bikes and bling on so many channels. Cheers,
Hey Scotty, thx for another vid. Enjoyed your AzBDR series, as I'm from Az. What is your next bdr? Just curious. Thx
@unoteb thanks for watching! I have 3 in mind. Utah, Colorado, and Northen California. It's just tough to make the timing work since all of these have high elevation mountain trails.
We did Idaho in August, starting in Porthill. We plan on doing Utah in the summer before it gets too hot
@unoteb nice, it's seems July/August is the earliest the snow completely melts.
Hey Scotty, enjoy your videos. Can you tell me what type of bracket you have attached to your handlebars that I believe has a AS logo on it? Thanks.
@@bella3007186 thanks for watching! It is the adventure spec fairing support gps mount.
Man that looks fun!
What time of year was this?
@desertratmtb thanks for watching. This ride was in March.
😂 "whoa daring....not me" Kudos. Excellent ride and pace!!
I bought a pair of the lows, haven’t tried them out yet on the bike yet winter has fallen on us.
The memories your bike brought you to at 6:30..
Thanks for taking us along, well done.
@@kernered15 thanks for watching!
It’s a fun canyon trail for sure. When we first rode up and saw the old tar sections of the road I thought it might have been an old entrance to the park. After a little research I discovered the road was made for construction of the aqua duck. …and we noticed the temperature difference when we climbed out of the canyon like you. Only problem is the trail is way too short. 😅. Thanks for sharing your ride.
