  • More info on hifiandmusicso... This is a HiFi review of the latest Rega amplifier upgrade to the ELEX integrated amplifier. This is the new Mk4 with a new case to match the wider amplifier range and two new digital inputs into the Rega DAC circuitry. This Mk4 has an MM phono stage and headphone output at the front of the amplifier.

    Rega amps really are something special and I really rate their DAC too ❤

      @Sune - Yes they are doing a great job. The fact that the DAC is not far away from the Hugo2 is a great example of their attention to detail. Thanks for your comment - let us know if there are any videos that you would like us to make going forward.

    Beautiful Carinas 🤩 They get better with every step up in the amp game

      You're right, do you have a pair? They're sparkling with the T+A amplifier I'm using now! Thanks for the comment!

      @@hifiandmusicsource I had a pair for quite some time. In my opinion the Carina is a hidden gem. Top to bottom.

      Total hidden gem. Especially if you get them B stick for $750 shipped, direct from Elac. They replaced a pair of Kef R300 stand mounts without breaking a sweat. And will scale up too much for my listening habits (mostly vintage rock, pop, R&B, soul,). Had to send back a VTV eigentakt amplifier, because it was too clean. 🤦🏻 ✌️

    I'm also a big fan of Elac speakers but never heard the higher end models like these. At the moment I'm running Triangle Esprit Titus EZ, a real gem of a speaker under £1000.

      Nice, big fan of Triangle, they're really well positioned and their Duetto speakers were fantastic (at £5,500 though!)

    Great review. LDR is a great test for any amplifier or speakers, isn't she? Incredible to think she's been around for over 10 years now!

    XLR instead of digital inputs would have been better. my Denafraps DAC would mop the floor with its internal DAC

      Yes, can't argue with that, I hear really good things about Denafrips

    I am a Rega fan and have had the older Elex r but I am currently trying an older Elicit r and like it better than the Elex r with my setup. In your opinion, would the Elex r MK4 be an upgrade over the older Elicit r or would the Elicit r MK5 be a better choice?

    • @hifiandmusicsource
      @hifiandmusicsource  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sorry for the late reply. The Elicit Mk5 (£2k) is a terrific platform to start your HiFi journey, particularly if you need the MM or DAC platform. If your budget doesn't get there the Mk4 ELEX (£1.2k) will do you very well indeed. If you can get a good comparison listen at a dealer you might not find a great deal of difference, see if you can arrange that.

    Nice video. How much better is it than the Elex-R Amp for analogue ?

    • @hifiandmusicsource
      @hifiandmusicsource  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for your comment DIGITAL JUNIOR. The analogue input stage of the Elex mk4 has indeed been upgraded compared to the previous Elex-R model. The input stage also features a new high-performance op-amp and improved filtering to reduce noise and distortion, resulting in a cleaner, more natural sound. However, as with all these improvements its down to your personal taste and what type of music you prefer!

      @@hifiandmusicsource I purchased the Elex-R for £750 so I don’t think I can find the difference. That’s the issue with Hi-Fi is you are never finished.

    It would be better if they strengthened the body than to shove a useless, outdated Dac into it.
    Pasting the case and transformer of the amplifier with sorbotan gives an amazing increase in sound quality.

    Hi there. Can one compare this amp with the Atoll IN200?

    • @hifiandmusicsource
      @hifiandmusicsource  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, thanks for the comment. I'm not familiar with Atoll but it looks pretty decent. I'll see if I can get one for review. Looks like the N200 has an optional phono stage and an optional DAC rather than inbuilt. As always, see if you can get a listen at your dealer.
