    Interesting info! Had no idea they are using brushless fuel pumps now. Scope to the rescue!

      Scope won't find the mechanical wear unless you know what the spec is for a new pump

    I read about these pumps several months ago. The speed and therefore output pressure can be controlled much better by way of the control module. Will be interesting to see how long the control module and it's wiring will last in the salt belt areas.

    I stick a stethoscope down the fuel tank filling neck and listen for the motor to spin up. Initially takes just a few seconds to determine what you are dealing with. The Trainer Series Motor Age is the best Automotive Diagnostic TH-cam Channel. Thank you Pete for your hard work in bringing us this critical series.

    Did you say the 20-20 vision rule😅 as I visualized my scope

  • @charliemagoo7943

    Sure the 3 phase pump may have eliminated the brushes but 19 out of 20 pump failures I have seen are mechanical wear on the pump made up by higher command time. So as a pump wears you will see 5000 rpm commanded and desired does equal that so you have to know what a new pump rpm or command time is. Electrical failures on 3 phase are almost non existent. You have to know the system you are working on

    How to test with power probe 4. I did test the fuel pump fuse and then g402. That one has no relay to it it was running by fuel pump driver module. 2016 Chevy Malibu 2.0l turbo 4 cyl

    So what does the waveforms look like if you unplug the fuel pump and front probe the connector is it just12 volts on all 3 wires?

    • @juergenscholl2843
      @juergenscholl2843 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically you´ll expect 0 volts with the pump at rest. It then is not pulsed by the FPCM.

    • @MotorAgeMagazine
      @MotorAgeMagazine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      On the brushless pump, I read OCV on the one and I would expect the same reading on the other two.

      @@philh9238 OCV stands for Open Circuit Voltage. It's the voltage you measure when you measure across the battery terminals.
