I can guarantee you that you heroes never stayed away from "mainstream". Great musicians all have one thing in common: they don't think in genres, they just think in music.
The last section (Breathe Reprise) is when the singer returns to his parental home ("Home, home again"), for his parent(s) funeral and prayers at a church ("the tolling of the iron bell, calls the faithful to their knees, to hear the softly, spoken magic spells").
I thought that section was about reconciling thoughts on passing time (aging, inevitability, etc...) while observing other people participating in church life; those people seeking relief from the same questions.
The many comments about the "Reprise" being about the singer's transition into his final years and days of life are spot on. Running "to catch up with the sun" speaks about the years getting shorter as we get older and hurrying to finish goals in life before time runs out.
I understand that section of the song as him at his own home hearing the local church bells which are rung traditionally to call people to church for a service, and people are praying in hope of life after death, but he calls the prayers 'softly spoken magic spells' which implies there is no life after death, or the hearer of the church bells (writer of the song) doesn't believe there is any life after death.
@@heliotropezzz333 I agree completely. @psbarrow the stanza also includes "Far away, across the field..." This hints at an element of distance between the narrator and the church activities.
I first heard this album when I was 15 and it blew my little mind. We all used to sit around, smoke joints and just get lost in this whole album. I am now 60 and it still gives me goosebumps, even without the joints. Timeless!!
Far away across the field (cemetery) the iron bell (church bell) it’s a funeral bud. The next song is called “the great gig in the sky” it’s about the moments of death
Not a funeral. You don't kneel at a funeral. It's just a Sunday in England. The bell tolls to call the faithful to church where they kneel and pray. The prayers are the softly spoken magic spells. My impression of the song is that it represents someone who is not religious sitting thinking about time on a Sunday. Concluding their thoughts they realize the didn't say very much about time, which is a huge concept. As they realise this the church bells in their town begin tolling, calling the faithful . . . Another wasted day which is what the song is lamenting. All the time we waste, and all the things we think are important that really aren't.
I'm sure someone has already pointed this out. The second song on Dark Side of the Moon is Breathe, a song about being born and having different paths in life to choose from. What you heard after Time is Breathe - Reprise. It probably didn't seem like it at first, but it does tie into the message of Time as well as continues the message of different paths. He has chosen the path of pursuing wealth and spends his free time warming his bones by the fire, while others turn to religion or something spiritual.
Really? This album is still in the charts after over 40 years, a masterpiece, and if you have never heard of Dave Gilmour or any other Pink floyd music you need to catch up.
Nice reaction my friend. I'm happy for you that you enjoyed the song. Pink Floyd is much more than background mainstream music. It is always deep in lyrics. Pink Floyd can change your life. Hope you go deeper into their music.
These lyrics have been with me since I was a kid. In my teens I joined a band. In my 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s, playing in bands took me around the world. Even in my early 50s I was still touring, right up to when covid hit. I'm now 56 and living by the sea. I have drums permanently set up and I play for an hour before I even turn the coffee machine on. Then I fill my days with swimming in the sea, taking photos, making videos, and now that gigs are happening again, going to gigs. As soon as my band is ready to play again, I'm stage ready. I know many people of my age who are now resigned to the fact that their active life is coming to an end, but fck that! I've got plenty of things still left to do. In part, I thank this song for that.
Your in a unique position to be able to discover some of the greatest recorded music of all time. This music is timeless and classic. I wish it was me discovering it for the first time once again. Enjoy. You'll never tire of listening to this.
💜 you know Dirthy10... I lissened this song befor 40 years ago so so much.. The all album... It is interesting to watch you now, your reaction... 😊 time , life, a song ... a message.. a new generation... Its all right 💜 😊 💜
This is not a single song in the form you are probably familiar with, it is from The Dark Side of the Moon album so all the songs fade into one another. In 1973 no-one would have just played this song, they would have played the album.
To answer your question about the final lyrics.... The song takes you from child hood through life until death. So at the end , the representation of "Home, home again, I like to be here when I can" refers to yourself older in lfe and just wish to rest after a toiling life. For the final verse its represents your funeral the church bell, faithful to their knees, and speak the softly spoken magic spell. Obviously refers to your relgious rituals each hold dear to attain atonement. Great reaction sir, keep up with FLOYD, you will get ALOT of views and listen to revolutionary music that was ahead of their time, and beats almost everything on radio today. I do agree if you listen to FLOYD please start at the beginning of an album and continue through the end, you WILL NOT be disapointed.
To be honest, Pink Floyd was considered your “mainstream” band with punk music ideals. They never sold out, made songs cutting on record labels and never really wanted the limelight. In fact, Syd Viscious got his name derived by Syd Barrett, a member of Pink Floyd
This is my favourite reaction video so far. Good on the fly lyrical interpretation. Pointed out the singers who I had never noticed. Also it is cool seeing such an intense reaction to something I have heard many times.
From the greatest album of all time, imo. A masterpiece. I first heard this album at age 22 and will never tire of it. That was about 50 years ago. Keep it up!
It's wonderful to see young people like you enjoying some of the music I grew up listening to. I'd love to see you react to some more of Pink Floyds music, I say music instead of song because what they create is much more than a song, it's a journey for each and every composition. I've been a hardcore Pink Floyd since 1971, (I was 15 at the time), and I saw them perform twice back in the 1980s. They are the GOAT of Progressive Rock! One of the shows that I attended was The Wall, an incredible, phenomenal performance, a show of such magnitude it's difficult to describe. If you're interested, I suggest you do a search of The Wall performances, to get an understanding of the immenseness of these shows. I would like to request you react to Pink Floyds "Comfortably Numb" Live from the Pulse Concert from 1994. Big event, Big long inspiring solo, Big incredible light show, and one the greatest endings of a single song EVER!
This is a common theme for Roger Waters (the bass player and lyricist). Many, many songs explore the dichotomy of hiding from the daily struggles and stress of life or meeting those hurdles head on. The whole album of The Wall explores that theme. It also appears as a main theme in this album, Dark Side Of The Moon, and also on the albums, Wish You Were Here, and Animals.
"Try to imagine what it will be like to go to sleep and never wake up. Now try to imagine what it was like to wake up having never gone to sleep.” - Alan Watts
First time I have come across your channel. That was one of the best reaction videos to this particular Pink Floyd song I have seen. You really understood the song which has a real personal deep meaning to me. Can't wait to find your other Pink Floyd reaction stuff.
....and bands were nurtured & developed over years by connoisseurs of talent and brilliant record producers. It took perseverance and talent, two things almost totally lacking in today's popular music.
If you listen to the Dark Side album, listen to it in order and try to listen to several songs at a time. They each flow into the next song. The only real stand-alone song is Money. As you listen to it, you might notice there is not a single repeated chorus on the whole album. These guys did not do standard verse-chorus-verse-chorus songs.
This song got my attention when I was 12 and the LP had just been released. Nearly 60 now and it means more to me every time I hear it. On the upside I was 16 when punk started. A good time to be a teen.
Dark Side of the Moon is the most iconic album in the rock era in my opinion. It was recorded back in 1973 and they didn't have the tools that they have now in the recording studio. They had incredible engineers put this album together and used highly sophisticated multitracking tape machines to make this album. The sound quality on things back then sounds more detailed to me. Great reaction!!!
he went home and died the iron bell and the faithfull to their knees is his funeral, the next song on the album great gig in the sky is about ascending after death
Great reaction, welcome..lol. I saw you get Floyded. Song Suggestions: Speak To Me/Breathe- (which is the song that time had a reprise near the end.) Us And Them Dogs Sheep
Best song ever. Best album ever. So, take that for what its worth since I'm a HUGE Zeppelin fan as well. Most being Zeppelin fans would roast me, but Pink Floyd is just something so special, to me anyways. Floyd has so much creativity and thought into their music.
Wow. I've been listening to Pink Floyd for almost as long as you've been alive. Take it from me, if you really want to explore their music, and get the most out of it, you should listen to each album in its entirety. The exploration of their music is an adventure unlike any other.
Pink Floyd, isn't just another band, they are an experience, they take you on a trip into yourself, your mind. I've been listing to the sense to '60s and still love them their songs never get old. enjoy
The church ring the bell on Sunday to call the congregation to hear the mystical Ecclesiastes - not that I am religious but a discourse on time " a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace."
Please mention the UNCUT version of Comfortably Numb at Pulse. The version everybody is watching (16M views) is 9:52, and the UNCUT version is 10:59 with 216k views and that extra minute is all guitar solo in finale!! Or did you not know?
You don’t have to listen to anything mainstream but Pink Floyd is different- don’t miss out the rest of your life without hearing more Floyd- other songs should be Comfortably Numb and Wish you Were Here- their music is like no one else’s on earth- welcome to the PF rabbit hole hope you continue your journey
Great reaction but what you've just heard is only one track from Dark Side of the Moon (charted best part of 20years over 45,000,000 copies.... might be a reason for that) But it is a concept album, each track flows into the next so you can pick tracks but you'll miss the overall thread. For a good intro, I would strongly recommend PF 1972 Echoes - Live at Pompeii where the guys play in an empty Roman Amphitheater with no audience apart from maybe a bunch of ghosts. Followed by PF 1992 Comfortably Numb live at the Pulse Concert where you see a real stage performance that will knock your socks off! If you go down the Floyd rabbit hole... buckle-up dorethy kansas is about to go bye bye!!!
There is a version on TH-cam from a year before Dark Side was released, the first public performance in a concert at the Rainbow Theater Feb 1972. It's way more RAW ART than the studio-polished gem they published. I like the older stuff, Wish You Were Here is last of theirs that I like so much, I saw them in Philadelphia.
Please mention the UNCUT version of Comfortably Numb at Pulse. The version everybody is watching (16M views) is 9:52, and the UNCUT version is 10:59 with 216k views and that extra minute is all guitar solo in finale!! Or did you not know?
I always assumed the tolling bell was for a funeral. (That assumption covers almost fifty years of listening to these guys. So, “one day closer to death” has added meaning, now that I’m an old fart).
The idea of the ‘tolling’ bell (the way it has the recurring sound) was first introduced, i believe, on the album ‘MEDDLE’, in the song ECHOES - with the recurring “PING” of the initial piano note. Since then the recurring ‘bell’ sound has been reprised a number of times in their songs - especially within an acoustic guitar setting in some songs on one of the bass notes. Listen for it as you explore further.
Always, PF setting the mood at the intro. Let it flow and change your life, come back in 5 years and listen it again. Stronger every time as time goes by.
Fantastic song for sure, their playlist is extensive and ridiculously good. Check out (let us watch) Pink Floyd live 1994 Pulse concert performances of COMING BACK TO LIFE, HIGH HOPES, LEARNING TO FLY and most importantly, SORROW. Finish with COMFORTABLY NUMB and you will be forever changed. David Gilmours guitar is just other-wordly in the way he makes the notes 'wash over you', at least me. When is the last time you heard a band sound better live than in the studio? STRAP IN!! The stageshow is mesmerizing and kickass!! Look forward to seeing more of you reacting to Pink Floyd....
Please mention the UNCUT version of Comfortably Numb at Pulse. The version everybody is watching (16M views) is 9:52, and the UNCUT version is 10:59 with 216k views and that extra minute is all guitar solo in finale!! Or did you not know?
There's a short list of all-time great rock albums. Tommy, Sergeant Pepper, Dreamboat Annie, ... Dark Side of the Moon (and Wish You Were Here) are comfortable in that company. The whole album is one story -- you have to experience it as a whole. The arc from birth to death, innocence to resignation... timeless (as it were). This song segues into the next, which makes sense of those final lyrics...
The last bit is a reprise of the second song on the album "Breathe" that leads into "The Great Gig in the Sky" a song about death, it depicts the stages of grief from loss to sad acceptance. I believe the Iron bell part from breathe reprise is a funeral that follows the intent of the lyrics to "Time".
Because I'm getting 10 million comments on this I will let you know now that I pause to throw off the copywrite bots TH-cam has implemented to give people strikes
The last part is about the end of life and a funeral. Tolling of the iron bell is a church bell. Softly spoken magic spells is saying prayers in church.
That last section was the reprise to "Breathe," which is the first song on the album. When you play the album in its entirety from start to finish, you will fully understand the concept. "Time" is by far my favorite Pink Floyd song. Thanks for this reaction.
Like others have said, the songs go in order from Breathe to Eclipse. Breathe Reprise slips in after Time and before The Great Gig in the Sky. Nice reaction!, keep listening to The Floyd, you will not be disappointed.
The song reflects the different phases of life. Wasting the time when you're young, then suddenly being in the hectic middle life (chasing the sun), and then it slows down, coming home old and tired, and hearing the foreboding of the inevitable end, the church bells and prayers...
"No one told you when to run; you missed the starting gun." All the lyrics are powerful. Ahh...the cost of not paying attention. No time for regret. No time left to waste.
Hey brother, you my friend just got introduced to THE most famous and best progressive rock song, EVER..... glad you got the chance, and Time to listen to it, I like your reactions! Enjoy more Floyd, mon!
Our host's first time really listening to Pink Floyd, and first time hearing this song, all with worthy attention. He got it right off the bat. PF's music may be mainstream in popularity, but not in it's intentional content and delivery. Just wait until he builds up to their next two albums. He will definitely catch on to the hard messages of songs like Welcome to the Machine "What did you dream? It's alright, we told you what to dream." Their Animals album (1977) is far removed from anything mainstream, and will prove to be an absolute in depth ass-kicker. Cheers.
The end bit was actually 'Breathe' (reprise) which is the final part of the 1st album track 'Breathe'. But when you listen to the entire album, it all makes sense why. It's an absolute masterpiece.
Dude, rule number one, when listening to Pink Floyd, LISTEN and enjoy the song and react AFTERWARDS. By pausing it so much you are not only ruining the experience for yourself, but for your viewers as well.
Most definitely a Dirty 10!!!!!!!!!! Bro, it's good you've *finally* been exposed to Pink Floyd. _The Dark Side of the Moon_ is one of the top-selling albums ever! And you really need to experience it in its entirety. That said, here I go recommending a video from a different artist. This was just posted a few hours ago. She learned this song and recorded it in one afternoon! Let me at least try to make a relevant connection here (even though it won't get very close to Kevin Bacon lol - pop culture reference). Okay, when asked who her main influences are on guitar, she cites David Gilmour as one of the main ones. And she grew up with her parents listening to Pink Floyd. There. That is the relevance I can give to the following suggestion for a reaction. This young artist's name is Daniela Villarreal, and in the video linked below, she covers a Foo Fighters song. In fact, I believe you did a reaction to her and her band covering a different Foo Fighters song. Here she channels Dave Grohl in an acoustic cover of "Walk". th-cam.com/video/ckNNVE9sMy0/w-d-xo.html
Don't get the end? : You're dead. Home. The great big gig in the sky. The tolling of the iron bell sounds in the church tower with the funeral rites and prayers for the dead which, spoken softly, do sound like an incantation.
When you thought the song ended (lyrics "... thought I'd something more to say") it did actually end. The bit afterwards was the final verse of a previous song "Breathe". They split it for artistic reasons.
Loved your reaction. Time and the whole dark side of the Moon album is a masterpiece. This song is a wonderful song. It’s actually two different songs. Time ends with I have no more to say. And Home again starts. Good luck on your musical journey.❤️😀👍✌️🌼 Love and peace.
you have to, for yourself, listen to the entire album. it's a masterpiece.
sounds like a great idea!
Yeah not just in the way of every song but every song on the album flows together in a beautiful way. Its like a journey from start to finish.

I agree, although I believe pausing during a reaction is completely necessary to portray thoughts, although you should never pause during a solo.
In this case he paused the video to show his interpretation, I liked his reaction, it shows that he was really listening to the song

Just for clarity, Sid Vicious was named by Johnny Rotten, after Sid was bitten by his pet hamster, who was named Sid, after Syd Barrett
Great reaction to a first ever listen to P. F..... hope you enjoy the ride 'cause you've only scratched the surface 😉
First time I have come across your channel. That was one of the best reaction videos to this particular Pink Floyd song I have seen. You really understood the song which has a real personal deep meaning to me. Can't wait to find your other Pink Floyd reaction stuff.
When real musicians created real music playing real instruments !
Edgy
....and bands were nurtured & developed over years by connoisseurs of talent and brilliant record producers. It took perseverance and talent, two things almost totally lacking in today's popular music.
@@kendellsmith104 But true
Tool just released a new album a year ago man
Oh man, I´m old. I´m always getting flashbacks while watching someone listening to Floyd for the first TIME.
Yeah, and if you listen, Gilmour did the same thing on his riffs between lyrics on most albums. Especially Dark Side.
Imagine in High School (as I was) and this is our Anthem album at every party.
he went home and died the iron bell and the faithfull to their knees is his funeral, the next song on the album great gig in the sky is about ascending after death
Enjoy the journey with architect band that takes you away from your earthly bounds and brings you to a new outer limits place.
Welcome into the rabbit hole...
Great reaction, welcome..lol. I saw you get Floyded.
Song Suggestions:
Speak To Me/Breathe- (which is the song that time had a reprise near the end.)
Us And Them
Dogs
Sheep
Next up is comfortably numb. Its what I would call their flagship song. Its brilliant, and you should really give it a listen.
I've been listing to the sense to '60s and still love them their songs never get old. enjoy
The church ring the bell on Sunday to call the congregation to hear the mystical Ecclesiastes - not that I am religious but a discourse on time
" a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace."
Once you get Pink Floyd you can’t get rid of it even if you try
Def don't do acid and listen 🎶 😂
Comfortably Numb...studio version then the live Pulse concert version...will blow your mind!
Great reaction but what you've just heard is only one track from Dark Side of the Moon (charted best part of 20years over 45,000,000 copies.... might be a reason for that)
But it is a concept album, each track flows into the next so you can pick tracks but you'll miss the overall thread.
That last part, is a funeral
Our lives are a moment of time. It is the one thing we ask more of and the one thing we waste the most.
This is one of the bands that were punk before punk rock. They r main stream now because they r so good
Always, PF setting the mood at the intro.
Smoke one. Put the ALBUM on, put your headphones on, lay back in your recliner and listen.
And don’t forget to close your eyes
the iron bell is used for funerals back when a village only had the one bell.
Almost 50 years old this album. Still listening to it on Spotify.
Pink Floyd was absolutely incredible. Please share this video. It would really help me out! Also join my Twitter @dirty10videos
Actually, the whole album is one song really ! So listen to it in one stretch and you'll live an experience man 😉😉
Hmm maybe
Really enjoyed your reaction to this! First time coming across one of your vids. I’m gonna check out more!
Because I'm getting 10 million comments on this I will let you know now that I pause to throw off the copywrite bots TH-cam has implemented to give people strikes
How many times do you need to pause to avoid copywrite ?
@@stevenronald2484 I've learned that if they're gonna copywrite, they're gonna copywrite. Doesn't matter how often I try to fight it
The last part is about the end of life and a funeral. Tolling of the iron bell is a church bell. Softly spoken magic spells is saying prayers in church.
I always used this track to test speakers when buying new ones. If it can't make the alarms and chimes bright and clear, it's not a good speaker.
For whom the bell tolls, the final call.
Hey brother, you my friend just got introduced to THE most famous and best progressive rock song, EVER..... glad you got the chance, and Time to listen to it, I like your reactions! Enjoy more Floyd, mon!
I’m 40. This has been my favorite band since I was 11. Time is my all time favorite song ever. I’ve requested that it be played at my funeral.
Nice reaction
Next: shine on you crazy diamond
Great job of getting the lyrics as you experienced this fabulous song...
Our host's first time really listening to Pink Floyd, and first time hearing this song, all with worthy attention.
He got it right off the bat.
PF's music may be mainstream in popularity, but not in it's intentional content and delivery.
Just wait until he builds up to their next two albums.
He will definitely catch on to the hard messages of songs like Welcome to the Machine
"What did you dream? It's alright, we told you what to dream."
Their Animals album (1977) is far removed from anything mainstream, and will prove to be an absolute in depth ass-kicker. Cheers.
Great reaction, there should be room for both Pink Floyd and The Ramones in everyone's life
Deep lyrics, deep song, deep rabbit hole called Pink Floyd. Enjoy!
Pausing to analyse the lyrics, will done man, I sir am very happy you paused as you appreciated the song even more :)
LOL punk rocker's delicate ears get roughed up by the clock sequence.... awesome! Good, honest reaction, dude! Thank you
It is so great to hear someone intelligent and someone who understands. Thank you!
I have my moments, thanks for watching
The end bit was actually 'Breathe' (reprise) which is the final part of the 1st album track 'Breathe'. But when you listen to the entire album, it all makes sense why. It's an absolute masterpiece.
Well somebody has to mention the University of Iowa shirt, so it might as well be me.
Welcome to my world of music...lost my heart totally to punk rock. But Pink Floyd will always be my No.1
It isn't heart beat, it's the TIME that runs faster than we thought...
Pink Floyd are rock gods
One of the best song's ever...
Dude, rule number one, when listening to Pink Floyd, LISTEN and enjoy the song and react AFTERWARDS. By pausing it so much you are not only ruining the experience for yourself, but for your viewers as well.
That triangle symbol with the light going through is called a prism. It does to light like a diamond does. It's really a pyramid of glass

Don't get the end? :
You're dead.
Careful with that axe Eugene Brighton 1972 you’re welcome
The Dark Side of the Moon, one of the best-selling albums of all time, remained in the Billboard album chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988.
