Just reading about this in the book. David Shayler comes off as a deeply, deeply tragic guy. I don't even want to google him to find out what's happening in his life because I suspect it's going to be too horrible and depressing to stand.
That's some seriously poor debating from that bloke- accusing someone of something and refusing to let them speak over you to refute it. I actually thought this was a well written spoof after a while- I sort of hope it is. He comes across as that arrogant side of delusional where he belittles and scoffs at people who question him. ....He's a very naughty boy.
Racist against Muslims? Sorry, not possible as Islam is not a race. It is a religion, a culture if one wanted to push it. The word the he was looking for is "prejudiced".
Now I think that's slightly disingenuous. You're correct that Islam is not, itself, a race, however it has extremely heavy racial correlations. It's kind of like when _some_ people on the far right say that Africans are just less developed than Europeans and that _that_ is the reason for the economic, infrastructural, and technological inequalities between the two continents. Technically, African is not a race, but... I think you get my point. There's often a similarly unsettling racist undercurrent to a lot of the anti-Muslim sentiment that I've noticed online, and I don't think that's excusable simply because Islam is not technically a race. Now that's not to say that the backlash against people who, very reasonably, point out the ridiculous antiquity of that horrible religion is warranted, but it pays to be honest with ourselves about the nuances in such matters.
@@emlmm88 That's one of the more reasonable, nuanced posts about 'Islamophobia' that I've read in a while. I don't buy the 'Islamophobia is a propagandist term' argument, I think it's specious, and far too divorced from the reality of politics and life as it actually happens. It's also been weaponised by actual racists. I despise conservative religion, and Islam is the most conservative religion out there, but it's not honest to pretend that there's no racial connotations to criticism of Islam. Besides, half the people who talk about how they hate Islam as a religion are far closer in terms of politics to the Islamists they criticise than they are to me. Give them carte blanche to structure society the way they want and they'd come up with a white conservative version of sharia law.
Reading The Psychopath Test and has to hear Jon saying fuck off. Fantastic moment
Same! Ronson is extremely likeable, national treasure.
He's not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy!!!

Did y'all get the rights to Jeff Buckley's guitar strums then? Just makes me want to hear the rest of the song!
Is there a version of this program anywhere where the audio isn't so messed up?
7 years later...No.
Jeff Buckley really does sound like a ghost.
a lot of psychiatrists have antisocial personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder, thats why they chose the profession.
The journey he's been through has been a long and involved journey. Heavens, he sounds like Tony Blair. Wait, didn't Blair also think he was the......
