AnnasViolets Hi Anna, I planted some last spring by seed and they didn’t seem to do well and I figured from what you mentioned: not pinching them. However, I was hoping to see if you can divide them? Because this spring they all came up in a big clump on the side of my container and the other side of my container is bare and of course it’s nice to see a full container. Also I am not seeing aphids..something else eating the leaves and flowers..looks possibly like a leaf cutter bug but maybe slugs but I don’t see any slimy trail so maybe the latter of the two. Suggestions? Thank you for your time in producing this video, I love all your pretty colors you have chosen.
@@tinaknutsen I found an 8pk of pansies for $1 at Lowe’s in early late Feb or early March. I’m not good with seeds so the price was right. Try planting in the Fall. Depending on zone, I’m in 7b so I had flowers all winter. Mine are still blooming from the ones I planted 6mo ago. These are amazing and so glad I did that.
Follow the flower stem as far down as you can and snip it at the base. Important to remove the stems so it doesn’t send energy out and will be more directed to new flowers. That s what I do and they’ll come back flourishing with big huge flowers. At least that’s what mine did. I just added some Espoma Biotone and worked it in the top soil. Also, not sure where you are in the world but I was at Lowe’s and they had 8packs in the clearance area for half off. They were $2, down from $3.98. They grow fast so it’s really worth it.
I try to trim them on Mondays so they’ll be in full bloom by the weekend. I’m in zone 7b mid-Atlantic and planted them for the first time last October. I had flowers all winter with the really big faces. I was afraid to trim them fearing the cold would kill them so I just left them alone. Basically they bloomed over 6 mo. It’s starting to heat up so they’re getting leggy but will trim back completely and set aside to see if they’ll come back when it cools in the fall. Do you think they’ll come back? Is there anything I need to do except give water during the summer? Place them in sunny or shady until it cools off? Thank you for sharing your expertise for such lovely flowers.
@@adriankap2978 They will come back, keep pinching, they are tough plants. Put your finger in the soil to test for moisture if it feels dry at your first knuckle water them. They will self seed. I feed mine with liquid miracle grow that you attach at the end of the hose. I do all my flower beds and hanging plants…except I don’t do any of my sedums. Also if you have slugs they like these plants so slug bait helps.
@@tinaknutsen Really! Awesome! Thank you so much for answering and with such great news in not feeling like it's a waste. My neighbor absolutely LOVED my flowers and when I told her I would be cutting them off she was so sad. Then i got to thinking, thanks to her, I get so many flowers off them that I put them in my store bought empty plant containers and filled a DTree wash basin with water and set them out near my street with a sign saying to please take the new cuttings. I always felt sad just keeping them for myself and now I spread the joy to our walkers to take them home. I set out 6 small pots and by the end of the day they were all gone and she got my last pot. Now that I know where she lives I'm going to take them to her to enjoy. You really made my day Tina! So cool! I'm not getting too many now but what does grow, she'll be getting those and any other flower I have to cut back. So happy!
