I'm in northern Ohio I planted a Viola in my garden and it lived all through the winter no problem. As soon as the snow melted it flowered. I found your video informative thank you.
I am in zone 6 too. I plant pansies in the fall. They grow wonderfully and bravely bloom through light frost and snow. They always come back to full loveliness in the spring. Two seasons from one plant is a great value.
I live in zone 4. I purchased these violas last year without realizing that they would survive the winter and spread all over. they are absolutely gorgeous little flowers. I have lilac, a darker purple, orange and yellow. I planted them in my new garden out front where they get full sun. once our winter snow melted, I was astonished to see the little guys were still thriving. I just went out and bought a whole flat of these violas and planted them in my back gardens. I just love them. People are asking me what kind they are, some are taking pictures. They are the bell of the ball. so so pretty, however I have not furtilized them, but they seem to be doing quite well. Amazing, imagine surviving buried under that cold snow, still can't believe it.
I'm in zone 7a and if they get just a little bit of water they survive thru the worst of heat and winter in a morning only sun spot in a shallow planter. Just incredible of how strong they are. Thank you for sharing.

Turns out they're just super strong and can handle bare cold. But they bloom best after winter is over... Also I live in Tanzania, it's a tropical zone, all youtube videos speak about seasons and we ain't never seen snow in our lives haha... It's wildly different here
Ex-Ohioan (central) moved to Texas 2 years ago. I grew pansies all winter this past year. The only thing that stopped them was our Snowmageddon/Ice Storm with record zero temps. Even so, one pot managed to survive and are still blooming today. We've had a cool spring, but I expect that will come to an end very soon and the remaining pansies will succumb to the heat.
That bunch you cut off makes a lovely bouquet for the table! 😍🥰
Hello! I started pansy seedlings indoors under grow lights in late summer last year, planted out in Sept and they overwintered well! Zone 6b southeastern Massachusetts 🙂
Interestingly enough, viola also tolerate heat better as well. I had a viola self-seed last spring and it made it through the Arkansas heat. With frequent watering of course.

My favorite flower! I also surface sow and start them in a dark corner indoors. They usually sprout in about 7 days. Love the images.

Zone 4b in Canada, and the last through the winter. Have the pansys or violas growing everywhere. They self sow here

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I sowed Giant Swiss Pansies seeds in pots early last fall. Kept them watered & had lots of large containers full of beautiful pansies all winter long.
I've been looking for the giant pansies but can't find them anywhere, seeds or plants. Can you please let me know where you got them? Thank you for sharing.

Kia ora from New Zealand Christa. How funny - I had just come inside from direct sowing some more pansies and violas. We are lucky here in NZ as they grow happily through our temperate winter and on into summer. Yours look amazing!

Ohh, I saw some black violas that I had to have!! They will look great with orange pansies or violas, but not quite ready for Halloween colors yet. 😋
Zone 7 b in Memphis. They grow great here from Oct -May or June.
I grow Pansies really well,mine last year lasted untill mid summer I'm in zone 10 b Sydney Australia so we have mild winters hot summers
I'm going to cut them back next summer and see how they come back,I'll be planting them in April from seedlings,I'm too impatient for seeds

It gets 90s in Jacksonville, Florida summertime. Will I have to water twice a day? I plan on keeping on my patio in shady area.

I'm in SC too and my violas are so pretty that I hate the thought of them dying back in the 100° heat. I'm going to put all the hanging baskets in a very shady area and water frequently. They are already wilting a little if I don't water daily but I'm going to try! Wish me luck! 🙏

Well shit I planted them for summer. I live Ina 7a zone. I planted in the ground now its not worth it ill buy more seed tomo and try again
I live in the same zone. What happened? Maybe too much sun if you're planting tomatoes in the same spot.
I circled my containers with young planted Jantar (think lime green tips) Arbors and added blue and yellow. They never had direct sun but lots of warmth and bright light. Deadheaded through the ENTIRE summer and they got leggy but dog walkers always said they combo looked so nice!
Talks too much about living and during.. no info on what to do??
