Augusto Pinochet became President of Chile on September 11, 1973, after overthrowing the democratically elected President Salvador Allende with support from the U.S. Government. His nearly 17-year rule was marked by severe human rights abuses and an assault on democracy, with the impacts still felt in Chile today. The full extent of his regime's terror, including the fate of many victims, only began to be uncovered through reports published in the early 2000s.

Although all this is well known to Chilean society, there is a large sector of people who continue to defend Pinochet and his atrocities. Chile is a very politically polarized country with almost every day having protests with clashes with the police or political demonstrations on the center of large cities. lots of this troubles people are still fighting for are far away from having a solution because of that sector of people who still defends pinochet and his politics
Those people defend reality. Allende stole from private citizens and foreign companies, just like every other leftist in human history. Thankfully we had leadership that defended the interests of our normal citizens who did not wish to live in a communist country. The only reason you are more, is because Pinochet was such a soft dictator that most people were exiled, so much so, that many of them exiled themselves for the refugee status. Hunger and Crime in communist countries kill more than Pinochet could ever dream of. That's why he survived, that's why there's a whole generation that grow up under his regime that is well educated and actually build up the Oasis miracle of south America while you still bitching about something you know nothing about. You don't judge the son for the crimes of the father just like you don't take the word of someone who was not there over someones who was. René Schneider had already been murdered by the CIA, The USA was/is a much stronger country at the time and their interests aligned with Chilean citizens, Allende didn't win because he did so much for the working class, he was an example of classism. He was just charismatic but he was friends with Fidel, a man who turned his own country into a Prison Island. Yall should be more thankful our military was wise enough to chose the right side, and do so little harm compared to every single other dictator in history. Demonstrators need to go work and stop bitching about something their own parents understand.

More 30% Chile population we love Pinochet and we miss him....!
The video skips a few details here and there, so while it is a somewhat good summary, it isn't airtight:
-While CIA documents attribute themselves a good deal of the credit, they tend to ignore or downplay local actors and factors and center on/overemphatize what they did.
-The reason Carlos Prats renounced command was because there had been an earlier coup attempt months prior to september 11 and with his authority questioned, he felt he couldn't lead the army anymore. Pinochet was selected as replacement under his own recomendation, because he was seen as a career officer and apolitical. In fact he joined the coup very late, like on the last days. Up until the moment itself, it was the navy officer Toribio Merino who helmed the coup.
-There is no doubt Allende killed himself, unless from the far left elements of chilean politics. Even people that were with him defending the Palace said he killed himself. The reason 2 bullet wounds were found om his body has been pointed at the idea that he shot and only mortally wounded himself, so a member of his personal guard finished him off to not make him suffer unnecessarily.
- Dead told has solidly been around 3000 for decades now, and not for the first months but for the entire duration of his rule. What has increased has been the number tortured folk, as people have been stepping up to tell their tales.
-Pinochet was sent back to Chile in part due to Spain's flagrant disregard for chilean judicial process, because they had the idea that they had universal jurisdiction on human right violation cases. It is a highly controvertial topic, and got them in issues with other countries. They only cut it out when they tried that with China and got threatened with an embargo
[CITATION NEEDED]
There were two bullet holes in Allendes commie head because he shot himself with that gaudy gold plated AK he got from Castro, and when he killed himself the selector switch was set to full auto, so two shots went off before the trigger was released.

Pinochet was originally a French vampire (last name Pinoch) that fled after the French Revolution in 1800. He pledged revenge on all revolutionaries and participated covertly in various conflicts around the world but could only find stability after he reached Chile. There he realized he could lead a nation again by force and enlisted in the army rising through the ranks until 1973 he got the opportunity to lead the coup d tat against Allende. In 1990 he was though ousted and had to flee again amid popular unrest and strong opposition of the country he helped fight communism and has not been seen in many decades. It is rumored that he is yet to return and take revenge on the political class, however he left a (non vampire) family that destroyed his fortune and heritage by corruption and lavish life style.
No tears. Only gravity.
I never thought that someone who was not from my country would talk about Augusto Pinochet, but I loved the video and how they tell the story of the coup d'état of '73

This also happened in Mexico, but much worse, between 1974 and 1981, known simply as the "Dirty War." Did you know that Thatcher was friends with this guy.
I take Pinochet took the idea of throwing people from helicopters from the Algerian War (Bigeard's shrimps were called those ALN/FLN or other pro-Algerian death flight victims iirc. The Argentinians next door did the same thing). There were cases where it was alleged that some executed people were thrown into volcanoes. And Carlos Prats, Pinochet's previous General in charge had quit his post because he had the brilliant idea of shooting a woman's car after he'd mistaken it with the same model some youths were driving and had thrown insults at him (and got lucky after a taxi driver got him and his wife away from the angry crowd that gathered). And the most ironic thing of all was that Allende had been offended by Pinochet when the latter denied the former a visit to a detention camp around the late 40s in the northern part of the country when the communist party was outlawed in 1948 following Gabriel Gonzalez Videla's election. Allende knew the surname of the transgressor but didn't realize that two officers shared it, the one an engineer university graduate and the latter the career officer that later executed the coup d'etat. Allende had him all along and he went to the grave most likely never finding that out.

As the founding fathers intended.
Fidel castros death anniversary is Pinochets birtbday
Scum called pinochet died earlier though.
"one would like to be both the one and the other but because it is difficult to combine them it is far better to be feared than loved if you cannot be both"- Machiavelli
There's a little misconception in the video: Pinochet was the designated chief of the Junta not because of his own age but the "antiguedad (antiquity) of the branch of the Fuerzas Armadas he represented: El Ejército (Army). In the military the Ejército is the first founded in Chile's history by the libertator Bernardo O'Higgins. That's why it's "more repected" than the others such as the Navy, Air Force and the Police, therefore being in charge of the dictatorship.
I am from Chile, where all this happened, the truth is that this stage of our country was one of the darkest that it has ever gone through, it is not denied that they left good things such as economic advances and stability, but you cannot be blind to deny the murders of people, the disappeared detainees who until now their families are trying to know where they are or what has happened to them, at this moment Chile has enjoyed a ´´clean´´ democracy since 1990 and I hope it continues that way, long live the freedom, long live democracy and long live Chile
Allende and the Left didnt leave krapo except economic ruin, chaos and mayhem. And I had to know because I was a student working for them at the time. All what the Left has brought to Chile in every single occasion they have been in power is unemployment, chaos, criminality and illegal immigration out of control. Today the Communists are back in power and once again the Chilean economy is in full colapse, inflation is skyrocketing and unemployemt to the point that many Chileans are begging for another Pinochet and the erradication of the Comunist party.

Cool vid. During Augusto Pinochet's regime in Chile from 1973 to 1990, it is estimated that approximately 3,000 people were killed or disappeared due to political repression. According to the Valech Report and the Rettig Report, two major investigations into human rights abuses during his rule, around 28,000 people were tortured, and tens of thousands were imprisoned. The exact number of deaths and disappearances may vary slightly depending on the source, but the generally accepted figure is around 3,000.
3,000 is a lot.
there is the Guatemalan Civil War, but they only have about 200,000 killed. not 3,000.
200k is a lot more than 3k
3000 is a pretty decent count compared to the Holodomor
@@Raptorias they had millions, which is nowhere near 3,000.
@@Raptorias Whataboutism. What does the holodomor even have to do with this
Bruh its like Oct 7 all over again. People justify 40k+ innocent Palestinian deaths over 1.4k innocent Israeli deaths. Like what? 3k is alot but 200k was insane. You can't even compare, mate

Hello, I am Chilean and a follower of this channel, I love that you are interested in the history of my country and that is why I would like to mention 2 points about the video that seemed imprecise to me.
1: Although Pinochet and the dictatorship is by consensus and especially by the government as something negative, it is a popular opinion that this was necessary due to the decadent situation that the country was going through thanks to the communist government, even more extremist groups that approve of all the violence and crimes that were committed against communist groups(Especially because of that cartoonish scene about Pinochet as the devil.)
2: Salvador Allende committed suicide, the theory about a covert murder does not make sense, this is because the military forces at no time had the intention of going unnoticed, if Allende had been murdered it would have simply been announced, it even makes sense that he did it, after From all over the world he could have had the same fate as his companions and been tortured and interrogated and later disappeared.
Respect.
i from chile too. respect
Yeah such a popular opinion that no one even says that on tv anymore
I truly haven't heard that for years now
