One of my favorite Armors ever, alongside the Modular armor from the 90s. I waited decades for a rendition of this Model 16, the Ross/Busiek armor. This one is was a pioneer in terms of being the first to show bits of a "plated armor" aesthetic. No other armor before this one attempted a more mechanical look for the metal components.
thank u so much anthony for making our days. Just recently got out of a really toxic relationship and been going through some mental health problems. Seeing the video popping up helped me a lot
Q of the Day: The classic 70s armor will always be my favorite, but beyond that, I’ve always liked the Heroes Reborn armor as well as the Heroes Return armor seen here. I’ll be picking this one up along with Karnak, but that will be it for me as far as this wave is concerned. We’re at the point where character choice is the only real motivation for me to buy. It’s not unlike the early 80s where I finally quit reading and collecting comics for the first time because 85% of what I was buying was simply to maintain complete runs, not because I was enjoying the books.
People forget the Modular armor figure exists. That guy had great leg range without the dumb drop-down thing and an ab-crunch with no gaps. I swear to God, that figure wasn't designed by the usual guys at Hasbro because it's just way too good.
@@thetempleton6622 it's a lazy issue. They can't be bothered to put in the effort for most figures, but then they will do one that looks and moves fantastically. They have the ability to do it, but they are more worried about what pieces can be reused a million times than they are making a good figure the first time.
Like the only figure I got from hasbro of this year is the spot figure from the across the spider verse all because I'm getting the sh figuarts mile morales
I like the latest Black Widow, Hawkeye, this Iron Man and some. I maybe in minority but i prefer the clean looking figure, not like early toybiz where they paint wash almost every part.
The Iron Man era that got me into comics. I never thought we would ever get a figure. Definitely a inbetween the classic and modern design. I do wish the glowing parts were a brighter yellow instead of the gold.
I did not mind the marbley plastic when they first started using it, but it looked better a few years ago than it does now. So even the quality of a plastic type kinda sank. Also, it was applied to characters that made sense, like Spider-Man 2099. It looked good on that particular figure, so it has its place, but I can't stand when a figure is not uniform to itself. If there is a gold effect, either go all in or go with an entire marble plastic. I hate hints of premium on a 90% cheap looking figure.
The model 4 armor is my favorite and his default armor when one if his more advanced suits get destroyed. Its the classic armor from Invincible Iron Man #1!
I like it but I already have the 80th anniversary and Modular ones. If it had better accesories or a different body to those, I would have a reason to get it. Good review as always.
You should check out the ZD Toys Iron Man figures. Every figure that came out after the MK 3 armor is awesome from what I've seen, and I own the MK 3 figure too. Amazing action figure, and some of them even light up!
As an answer to the QotD, this one. Model 16 is my favorite Iron Man, this is the armor he was wearing when I started reading comic books proper and during the legendary Avengers vol. 3. from Busiek-Perez, and of course during Iron Man vol. 3, drawn beautifully by Sean Chen there. Just amazing. This is a Kurt Busiek-Alex Ross collab design. I didn't knew that at the time but it explains why I love it so much, and it was featured pretty much anywhere Iron Man was featured at the time. In the X-Men Legends 2 videogame, you can unlock Iron Man as a secret character with this appearance. It's just very near and dear to me. I really miss when Iron Man armors looked like this, more actual superhero look instead of some car designer's fantasy, which makes no sense. The original armors were already as pliable as cloth when needed but the newer armors have to be robot-y looking because of the movies? Weird. I would just wish this figure had come with different color blast effects. The last 3 or so Iron Man's have come with that almost same yellow color. This Iron Man had green repulsor blasts in some parts of the source material (Avengers) so I would've gone with that just for the sake of giving something different. I don't miss the smoke effects that have come with other IM figures tbh.
It's funny that they paint only the face plate, like they were saying "look what we are capable of!" and just don't paint the rest of the gold parts lol
I don't think you have Deathlok figure from the Sasquatch wave, however his ab crunch would work for you to use as an example of no gap needed on a good articulation
My favorite suit is the pentagon model 25 armor. You know, the one Hasbro mistakenly put on the box of the extremis figure? Close second would be the modular suit as you said.
Mister Anthony, I could not agree more with your thoughts-this figure is nice (for Marvel Legends standards, that is) and I do fancy it; however, we know [that] Hasbro can do better. For starters, more paint applications would do this Iron Man figure wonders. Blimey! That molded, marbled gold on Iron Man’s limbs does look like a bottle of shampoo! 🤣 As for the Question of the Day, I must say that I, too, fancy the Modular Armour Iron Man, followed closely by the Extremis Armour. I appreciate that suit’s sleek design; it is similar in colour (gold & red) with most armours, of course, yet the Extremis armour is drastically different from its predecessors as it features an advanced design and a smoother surface plate than the regular Iron Man armours. Please know that I always appreciate the bloody insightful reviews! 👍 Excellent stuff, mate! 🙏 Grazie! Arrivederci, Giovanni Marino, M.D.
My favorite armor is always gonna be the pentagon armor/ model 25. For me it’s a perfect mix of realism and comic designs. Pretty sad we never got a really good figure of it. I mean there’s the armorize iron man but it’s really rare and expensive
I collect mostly Iron Man's so this is a must have for me, preferably at a discount. My favorite Iron Man Armor is the 80th one with the classic colors. I wish they would start doing new accessories for the iron man releases though. The repulser blasts are just boring now and might as well not even be an accessory if you own enough Iron man's.
In my opinion I feel like legends series definitely stepped up their game on the figures sculpts and especially head sculpts recently. I stopped collecting legends back in 2017 because the figures felt cheap and not worth it made wanna start getting imports I would buy figs here n there but now I got back into it but only collecting comic figures now but they just look so good to me. I recently got gray hulk 2 pack I was amazed and extremely satisfied
The backs of the hands are correct to not have any gold. Those hip pieces could maybe do with some, though that was inconsistent in the comics. And the kneepads could go either way. Sometimes they were part of the boot, sometimes they weren't. I think I prefer it the way it is on the toy. Anyway, Modular armour is my favourite look for sure, and my favourite Marvel Legend too. I got into Iron Man through the 90’s cartoon and then reading issues of that Len Kaminski run. Heroes Return is in my top 5. Now I just need an updated Neo-Classic armour and I’ll have Marvel Legends of all my favourites.
Jim Lee's inspired Heroes Reborn also believe lron Man figures should be slightly bigger than Captain America bucks but smaller than Thor as Tony Stark is wearing armor.
I remember reading there was a mandate in Toybiz to have a new Wolverine in every figure run. So Hasbro knows Spider-man, core Avengers, and core X-men sell best.
I don't know this armour but ut looks pretty good. The figure looked decent till you showed how out of scale the upper and lower legs are. All hands need hinges! My favourite Iron Man armour has to be Silver Centurion. I have a soft spot for the classic Stealth version too.
It has to be the Silver Centurion, not only did it look amazing, it brought us through some of Tony Starks best stories, such as armour wars. As for this figures, I will pick it up on sale. I know it is broken record time, but getting Jada Ryu in hand, Marvel legends is embarrassing at this point.
That run of years from Michelinie/Layton through Denny O'Neil and back to Michelinie/Layton was legendary. The absolute best Iron Man comics have ever been.
Personally, I was fond of the Model 25 but looking at a nearly two decades later just makes it look so outdated with all its shapes. Since movie designs are out of the question, I'll go with the armor XM Studios designed for their Premiere Iron Man statue. It's just the classic armor with tiny changes for modern sensibilities, but the changes work and I'd argue are even better in that objective than Alex Ross' Model 70. Also hard agree with painted gold. The difference in quality between marbled gold plastic and actual paint is like the difference in action figure quality between Hasbro and Jada.
Thanks for your efforts on this Anthony. As far as non-MCU versions of Shellhead, well I am leaning towards the horned version we got on the 20th Anniversary variant. I understand the reasoning for the Hasbro score, I am just curious as to how it would score on your "for everything else but Hasbro" scale?
I really liked this figure. It looks great in hand. The colours and the design pop nicely. I like the beefier shoulders and even the neck design makes it look like a more powerful suit.
I think it isn't as bad as some would say, depending on the figure/character design. But yeah I wish his main armor colors would match the faceplate. The neck part being plastic without paint to put less emphasis on it would seem logical to me.
Man, Darwin is getting used all the time for these comparisons. He's such a good figure that you can still find him on pegs cause Hasbro keeps having to re-release him because the supply can't meet the demand!
the gold looks perfect. but its overall a pretty mid figure. it looks too much like the 2020 Iron Man. The blaster hands without hinges is beyond stupid. Literally every other has an hinge, even the gun holding hands they do
Funny enough some youtuber say jada figures have odd proportion, not like marvel legends, in my mind I said wtf my brain explode 🤯 with that heretic frase
"It looks like a shampoo bottle." Is probably the best description for how Hasbro's molded metallics look lol
Bloody right! 😂🤣

Very much a fan of this design, it's great to see a new, solid action figure of it.
Hasbro doesn't do whats best for the figure. They do whats best for their budget.
Is it really a budget issue or is it just a skill issue?

I forgot this wave was even coming out. It’s getting way easier to pass on Marvel Legends as time goes on.
Its easy to pass when theres a lot of fail figures by them. Heck even the solid ones i feel like just waiting for a sale.

“Hasbro refuses to do the right thing” lol. Nice review Anthony 💋
I can’t wait for the rest the wave reviews because there’s some real stinkers in this wave, that’ll make for entertaining content.
I like it but I already have the 80th anniversary and Modular ones. If it had better accesories or a different body to those, I would have a reason to get it. Good review as always.
Its body is different but the upper arms and thighs are the same as some other figures I think.
