Two year late response but here goes. Motorcycle helmets use certain polymers on the shells and foams that contain oil to maintain their elasticity. Over years and with exposure to elements this oil dries out leaving the polymers and foam much more brittle and therefore less safe. I honestly couldn't tell you if bicycle helmets are the same, but I'd just use it as an excuse to upgrade every 3-5 years unless the manufacturer says it doesn't have an expiration. Extra fact, plastics getting brittle is the same reason baby/child car seats expire too.
It’s obvious POC is a sponsor of this channel. I see a lot of riders wearing that POC tectal, but with a bad fit. Sits way too low for some. You can adjust the vertical rise on the back portion.
Is a large enduro helmet visually bigger then a medium? I got a large fox speedframe but the shell looks huge and i think its the wrong size? is the medium visually smaller or is it just the inside part that is smaller?
Only for the „fake CE“ the manufacturer claims it means „China Export“, if you really believe them ... or maybe they just wanna copy it? The original CE is an European administrative marking that indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards. Like the FCC in the US. So check if it‘s the correct CE mark, the European one.
Does anyone have any informed opinion about the detachable (face guard) helmets? Are they robust enough or is it just a gimmick? I want to get one as I do 80% trail and XC and only 20% serious jumpy trails (I am not an advanced MTBer). I fancy the additional protection but can't justify (i.e. afford) getting two helmets.
They are super hot, and expensive. You would be better off with something like a 661 Reset, and a decent half shell. It would be cheaper, and more versatile.
Is nobody going to mention the gash on his nose? Was he wearing the wrong helmet? lol I picked up a full face a year ago and haven't ridden with anything else on the trail since. I've taken one hit with it that for sure would've left a mark or worse on my jaw. Glad I had it.
How many times can one crash before needing to replace her helmet? I had a couple bell-ringers this summer and am wondering if it’s time for an upgrade. [actually, the one fall resulted in a concussion]
The idea is that the insides compact on impact to absorb the force. Because of this, the advice is to replace after any crash. In reality, you need to take a good look and make an honest assessment without thinking of the cost. If you've had that bad an impact as you say, then you probably should replace it regardless as you never can fully tell.
You need a very good look while someone is squeezing the helmet from different sides with some significant force. You might see cracks in EPS that you didn't saw normally. My friend crashe without concussion in cc helmet and outer shell was ok, but inside EPS cracked in 2 or 3 places. Helmet was a write off.

My friend crashed without concussion in XC helmet and outer shell was ok, but inside EPS cracked in 2 or 3 places. Helmet was a write off.
I’d say if your helmet makes any significant impact with an object, it’s time to change your helmet. If you’ve hit something hard enough to cause a concussion, you need a new helmet. My helmets have saved me from 3 helicopters rides for sure. They can be expensive, but also worth every penny.

I did try both i wanted the air r originally but after learning its not got proper dh rating and seeing both it didnt feel as sturdy as dh but like you say it has more air vents but i prefer the fit of the dh when you remove the chin bar over the air r so that made the decision for me.
I've got an American dirt bike helmet, much lighter than a motorbike helmet, but only slightly heavier than an mtb helmet. Not a fan of ventilation in my helmet after I got a hidden branch get caught in it, almost snap my head off and give me a decent concussion that took a good fortnight to get back to normal.
@@noahbagel177 it was thankfully too big to go through the vent, so not too painful. But the fuzzy head, disorientation and short fuse really wasn't much fun. Just because it doesn't "hurt" doesn't mean you are fine.
A person I knew took a nasty fall with a POC full face and what happened is he went off a jump to fast and he fractured both his wrist slit his eyebrow and got a concussion. And the full face helmet on impact completely tore apart
Helmets are made to break on heavy impact to distribute the forces and not retain everything in the head. The concussion would probably be much worse if the helmet stayed intact.
There is a chance that the helmet was already crashed with therefore damaged and broke easily, helmets are supposed to defend but they wont withstand everything of course...
I only trail ride doing a bit of exploration, and honestly, I take a regular old Bontrager bike helmet with me and it ends up strapped to my hydration pack usually. I'm not bombing downhill or anything. I feel comfortable with the level of risk that I take.
Give it a try. I found a good discount and replaced it for my old IXS Trail RS Evo. Comfort level has increased a lot. But it also depends on the shape of your head. IMHO POC helmets fit better for narrowser head shapes.
Everything functions properly th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of TH-cam. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!
Quality of foam matters a lot, or are you saying a $20 plastic helmet with foam is the same as my $300 motorcycle helmet that is technically just plastic and foam? Ones from Walmart are better than nothing 100%, but they are more brittle foam that crack more easily and don't compress as much causing more force to transfer into your skull and play pinball with your brain. Determine what your budget and acceptable level of risk is and go from there, so long as you wear one is better than nothing.
The info applies to every helmet, every video is sponsored by their sponsors, and they included examples of features from other brands (detachable chinbar, ANGI).

I got the 100% trajecta for Christmas
I got the 100% trajecta
Does anyone have any informed opinion about the detachable (face guard) helmets? Are they robust enough or is it just a gimmick? I want to get one as I do 80% trail and XC and only 20% serious jumpy trails (I am not an advanced MTBer). I fancy the additional protection but can't justify (i.e. afford) getting two helmets.
The Bell super dh is just as good as enduro full face helmets. Very well built. The giro is okay but the half face looks stupid
I have the bell super dh and its ace proper dh rating and removable chin guard and fits well in both forms
They are super hot, and expensive. You would be better off with something like a 661 Reset, and a decent half shell. It would be cheaper, and more versatile.
awesome vid bro thanx for doing it... could be good or bad that one HMMM...!!! lmao love it man.... :)
Is nobody going to mention the gash on his nose? Was he wearing the wrong helmet? lol
I picked up a full face a year ago and haven't ridden with anything else on the trail since. I've taken one hit with it that for sure would've left a mark or worse on my jaw. Glad I had it.
That happened in the local pub,lol
pls reply do I get the Abus Modrop or the POC Axion SPIN Helmet neither are mips

I’d say if your helmet makes any significant impact with an object, it’s time to change your helmet. If you’ve hit something hard enough to cause a concussion, you need a new helmet. My helmets have saved me from 3 helicopters rides for sure. They can be expensive, but also worth every penny.
@@TraceyAllen I did end up replacing it and upgrading significantly. I’ve also adopted a new strategy of landing flat on my front instead of head first. My ribs took a beating, but my helmet’s good.
Hello.
Could you tell me if you know if poc coron air spin compatible with brace leatt 5.5
Do like my classmate did, measure around the head, we had a math project to see if we gould track down Pi so basically my classmate decided to use my head’s size for it, helpey me then to get helmet lol
When you Need a Good Full Face Helmet Thats really Good Ventilatet take the FOX Proframe.
Iam from Germany
full face motocross helmets are the best idc what u say
They offer the greatest protection no doubt! But they’re so freaking hot
Fox Dropframe Pro all the way :-)
no, just no
Love my fox dropframe
Loads of protection
And comfortable as
I purchased a convertible helmet (Bell Super 3R MIPS) with the idea that for more aggressive riding I would attach the chin bar but still have a lightweight trail helmet. I’ve found I don’t detach the chin bar anymore. Why?
You've probably got used to the chinbar and it's weight. If you ever crash that helmet, just buy a regular full face and be done with it.
I'm referring to helmets as lids from now on
I use fullface on pumptrack
Im looking for helmet fullface(due to back skull protection) but with that Rico system or NFC, i know about Poc tectal spin - but what are the other with this chip technology
Curious... why do XC riders go visorless? Their out in the same elements as trail riders.
Same with people wearing half a helmet ontop of ther head, same elements as the fullface but they think ther protected with 75% of ther head exposed to impacts
@@Rab_Cee Or maybe because it has better ventilation and is lighter. Wearing a full face for 100+ miles, or for a XC race is plain impossible.
Thought about getting a helmet, had a dude punch me off a skateboard and then I landed on my face. Lesson learned, helmet saves you from yourself and other people.
is this good for 5'11
Ive got all of the types to save this dilemma
I took a nosedive off a skinny and head butted a tree and then got right back up and boxed with it cuz I had me a good noggin protector
Bell Super Air R 💪
Bell super dh is better has a proper dh rating 💪
@@kieran710 thats right but the air vent is less then Air R and i like it helmet shape
I did try both i wanted the air r originally but after learning its not got proper dh rating and seeing both it didnt feel as sturdy as dh but like you say it has more air vents but i prefer the fit of the dh when you remove the chin bar over the air r so that made the decision for me.
@@kieran710 thanks for the info...i will try Super DH after this...thanks man
I bought a Poc Tectal for £25 how good is that!
That’s crazy mate
I've got an American dirt bike helmet, much lighter than a motorbike helmet, but only slightly heavier than an mtb helmet.
Not a fan of ventilation in my helmet after I got a hidden branch get caught in it, almost snap my head off and give me a decent concussion that took a good fortnight to get back to normal.
Painful
@@noahbagel177 it was thankfully too big to go through the vent, so not too painful. But the fuzzy head, disorientation and short fuse really wasn't much fun.
Just because it doesn't "hurt" doesn't mean you are fine.
@@ChristopherNutt yea
A person I knew took a nasty fall with a POC full face and what happened is he went off a jump to fast and he fractured both his wrist slit his eyebrow and got a concussion. And the full face helmet on impact completely tore apart
Thats not good but a helmet is not 100% guard and i hear often that a helmet of all companys fail ..
Sounds like it worked perfectly.
I only trail ride doing a bit of exploration, and honestly, I take a regular old Bontrager bike helmet with me and it ends up strapped to my hydration pack usually. I'm not bombing downhill or anything. I feel comfortable with the level of risk that I take.
And why is the POC Tectal helmet so darn expensive? I love it but can't afford it.
Give it a try. I found a good discount and replaced it for my old IXS Trail RS Evo. Comfort level has increased a lot. But it also depends on the shape of your head. IMHO POC helmets fit better for narrowser head shapes.
@@AlBorland3877 sure hope I'd find a great discount too. Wish it comes sooner.
It's a cool helmet, but stuff like the MET Terranova would be within 80% of it, with decent looks for a hell of a lot less.
Best of the best. Xoxo
Can you ride with mtb helmet on tarmac?!
yeah, it's going to be safer than any road helmet.
I didn't know air hostesses were adjustable.
Ok they all made of foam.. what’s the difference between these expensive and the Walmart?
The more expensive helmets are generally sculpted and designed to have more ventilation, be lighter, be more adjustable, be more comfortable
Why isn't this video listed as sponsored? The title should be 'how to choose a POC helmet'
Going to guess that POC haven’t specifically asked for the video to be made. They do list POC as a sponsor on every video
Does it matter? The information is all valid and valuable.
Doe s it matter? The. Information is all valid and valuable.
The info applies to every helmet, every video is sponsored by their sponsors, and they included examples of features from other brands (detachable chinbar, ANGI).
Why would anybody NOT buy the hybrid type helmet? The one with a detachable face.
