    What stunning imagery! What camera do you have? My goldfinches simply devour their sunflower hearts! Occasionally they'll have nyger seeds and be tempted by peanut pieces. Such special birds I adore them xoxo

      Glad you enjoyed the video. Most of my filming is one with a Panasonic Lumix FZ80/82 - the 60x zoom is great for filming birds!

    Squirrels come to my garden every morning, I feed them every morning, though I don’t really want to get up at 6 o’clock in the morning, but I have to. They are already used to me. They very love monkey nuts . I don't have a camera with a good resolution yet, but as soon as I buy it I will post a video on TH-cam . Thank you for your interesting videos . Nature is beautiful !

    Such a beautiful bird. I used to rescued one of these Goldfinches with broken wing in my childhood. Now I live in Florida and our American Goldfinch here looks totally different.

    Your garden is a hit for these little ones! We don't have goldfinches where I am, but most of my feathered visitors pick the sunflower hearts out of their seed table before anything else 💯

      I think if I was only allowed one feeder, I'd fill it with sunflower hearts. With black sunflower seeds the birds tend to grab a seed and fly off to break it open but with sunflower hearts they stay at the feeder much longer - from a filming perspective and just for the pleasure of seeing the birds, sunflower hearts win every time.

      I tried Nyger seed and sunflower hearts for years. Not one goldfinch was seen. So I gave up. Then I lazily left a bucket at the end of the garden near the feeders. Heavy rain filled the bucket and one day I saw three goldfinches drinking and bathing. I replenished the Nyger feeder and three weeks later there are at least ten goldies on the feeders every day. Reading up on it, they need a lot of water because of the seeds they eat. It was mid-summer when the arrived so I assume they were struggling to find fresh water. I refill it often now.

    If you remember, I asked you about the morning birds? So I figured it out, it was grown blackbirds . Thank you for your help .

    Sunflower seed hearts for me. They don't make a mess unlike the black sunflower seeds and the goldfinches love them..

    Great clip as always. Only saw a goldfinch once in the garden and that was in the spring of this year. I did wonder if it was just passing through the area and stopped to refuel.

      Thanks Marvin, appreciate your comment. Interesting to hear you have greenfinches and blue tits feeding on Nyger seeds, here it's almost only Goldfinches, although by coincidence, I did find a clip earlier of a coal tit feeding on the seeds. Hope your goldfinches visit soon!

    I always thought sunflower hearts were what were inside the black sunflower seeds so never got both. Would you say there's a big difference, or do they sometimes just enjoy the challenge of opening the seeds? 😉

    • @MyBirdingYear
      @MyBirdingYear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are right about sunflower hearts being inside the black sunflower seeds. Where I am I find the birds prefer the sunflower hearts - maybe it's because they can feed more quickly as they don't have to remove the outer shell.
