I bought a new bike after my daughter died. Unfortunately I live in NY and it is the most unfriendly state to offroad vehicles. All the trails I rode when I was younger are closed. Bought a new 2022.5 factory edition when it came out, it only has 8hrs. When I rode it I felt connected to nature and my daughter. Really want to move to a ride friendly state. I need that connection, so emotionally healing, you never get over the loss of child. You only learn, hopefully to cope with it a little more. Thanks Ryno, for all you do brother!
Just want to say thank you all for the replies and suggestions. I live near ithaca, no trails here. Really want to go out west. Again, thank you all for your best wishes.
I’m sorry for your loss. Central Florida has pretty much year round riding. You’d be somewhat close to Croom. We also have a great Hare Scramble series (FTR).
Come to the Carolinas north or south we ride year round !
Actually think VT is the most unfriendly
God bless you Sir 🍀👍🇬🇧🇺🇸🙏
Jeez, I can’t even imagine being a single dad. Stay strong bud 👍🏻
Being on the bike is the only time I am truly living in the moment. No thinking about the past or future, the fear of injury, making multiple decisions every second, and pushing myself to my physical limits.
So true
I'm 62 years old haven't ridden motocross for 40 years, this year I bought a 350 KTM SX F, I've been to the track now 3 times and I'm amazed at how every muscle, nerve and reflex in my whole body are activated while riding but what I get out of it most of all is the way it makes me feel afterwards. And it's fun and it's being outdoors and it's a whole load of things.
Great video 64 years old been riding all these years have allways had a bike cr 250 426 yamaha I raced Carlsbad in the 70 s in vegas trail riding here millions of acres to ride but you said it the feeling the peace of mind you get like nothing else. Keep up the great videos you have the way of a professor at explaining things a bike does. Mentally and physically. I lived in escondido In the 70 s..
I’m 38 and just started riding 2 years ago after I got my son into moto. As someone with ADHD it’s literally the only thing I have ever done where I can think 1 thought at a time and be fully engaged with what I’m doing it’s amazing.
That’s why love it. It makes you focus more than anything I’ve ever done. It’s beyond rewarding
I know exactly what you mean dude. Just started riding at 25. Also severely ADHD😂
Excellent review, I’m happy for you Brother ❤👍
This philosophy can be applied to almost any task. Don’t get ahead of yourself, take things one step at a time, and do them correctly. Well done.
I’m 56 that’s just what I needed to hear, haven’t ridden in 3 -4 years got myself a 93 Honda 250 , glad to see your back on your bike.🍀👍🇬🇧god bless you 🙏
Hell I'm 63 and nothing I've found matches the rush I got from who could stay on the gas longest to the 1st turn.
I am 57. Rode with a guy last Sat who is 69.
I love the start.
I'm 57 and for me it is the rush of the big triples. Feeling of freedom to "fly"
Man, you hit it right on the head. the Zen state you enter into when you’re letting the track flow to you instead of trying to punch at it kick at it. I achieve it by trying to work strictly on just basic techniques and going slow and the longer you ride. You have to try to put in 30 or 40 minutes and around the 20 minute mark it’ll just start coming to you. Then then speed starts building like a freight train. It is truly an amazing thing when it happens
Thanks for keeping us updated!
What I got from this is Having a presence of mind. Not ahead nor too behind, but entirely being in the present.
Thanx Ryan for the chat- always mate. You Pros always think faster, it a Gift im sixty now and still have a loop daily on a nearby track or one of many stoney loops around nearby mountains here in Portugal- it NEVER gets old and the same Feel good moments are as loud as they were almost 50 yrs back!
Still cant find anything which gives me CLEAR and Clean thoughts for an hour or more. Nothing else even matters.
F it Ryno, I'm going to finish off my 99 YZ250 project! This video hits the feels!! Keep charging brother! Much love from Oz
Makes alot of sense!! Thanks Ryan! Been watching you race back in the 90s and i am from Singapore. Have a good one. 👊
God bless you dude. Your the best Ryan
I find that if I ride the track the way I ride trails - with less attack, less angst, less need to go fast - I actually end up linking the track better, being smoother, and crank out faster lap times.
Great advise from a legend!!!
You are a very reflected and intelligent man Ryno!
Love to hear you are back on the bike!
I was able to ride my Sons bike after not riding motorcycles for over 10 years.
I was practicing a section climbing up and riding down on a place here, almost seemed what you guy deal with at Glen Helen motocross track.
There was a guy riding by me, I slowed down for him to pass, he said he wanted to follow on the downhill part.
He never went that fast and braked late like that.
I told him my lack of riding moto but use to race downhill mountain bikes. Touching brakes can shorten add to your time within a 10th of a second slower and it could put you in a 3rd to 4th position.
I was going even faster when I known the stutter bumps near the bottom of the turns.
I took what I known and riding moto in my past to listening to your videos. I passed them on to to the guy, he is trying to get into racing at 21 and is fast up hill and the rest. Down hill was his weakness.
I am 61 now and missed even riding mtb because I chose to not stay fit and ready, but seeing these help out a lot. I ride fit and ready but I am sure I am slower now, but I don’t have the fear of “I should have” and that can make you loose concentration.
Thanks again for your help, I am hoping to go out to my old stomping ground at Big Bear Ca next week visiting family and my life achievements “my kids and Grand Babies”
You should really write a book. Not on necessarily on motocross technique, but on how the mental side of sports applies to everyday life.
always a pleasure to listen to you, and congrats to ride again
Really nicely said Ryan. That patience and flow, is something that to me feels like a dance or Ballet. When you get it right the flow and motion is "art", no matter how good you are or fast you are/aren't...... when you get it right the feeling is out of this world. A few weeks ago I left the track feeling almost pure joy. Of course, the next time felt the opposite but that's the addiction, chasing the dragon so to speak and getting it right!
Yes yes yes ryno this is why you’re always relevant because you are so genuine and in the moment you just get it ! And your hands down just the man especially with Moto you are arguably the most knowledgeable person when it come to Moto and life it self thank you for all you do for us man I’m glad to have grow up with such a legend as an idol and I’m 42 now an get to ride here an there and just found how fun racing pitters what a blast !!
Thanks!
I listen to this man because he’s so full of knowledge and knowledge is powerful, the things he says will stick with you, been watching him race and his videos for a long time now, keep up the great wisdom Ryno🤛🏻🙏
Very happy to see you enjoy riding again and enjoying it. What you said is true, nothing beings peace and that centered feel a good MX session. 👌🔥
Oh man thst is so true. Im from the 90’s, You were my Idol, but man im 51 and once you are on the track that feeling is more than special i was out for more than 8 years and came back on 2012 and best thing I did. Glad to hear about your comeback after the last accident.
Stoked for ya Ryan! I'm 49 and need to start riding again!
Good Effort man! I love that focus too, I'm 56 and try really hard to improve at hard enduro. It's the best thing ever for mind health. I need to cut my debt a bit but the bike's definetely staying!
Love ya Ryno! You're thinking freely outside the box and bringing a lot after your racing career back to some legit bad young rippers... And the sport in general. Keep being you bro. Enough of us love you for the few that don't to gfo!
🤘🤠 🏁
I'm stoked for you to get back to riding even if it's now just a playful and teaching capacity! I just got back riding @ 61 and the fun and focus are like no other!
Keep teaching the mindful way you do!
Thanks
Glad you got to ride for a bit! I've been off the bike for while taking care of family situations, but I never stop thinking of riding or watching and learning. Glad you are healing well.
Thanks for that good insight on how a pro thinks. It will help when I get back on the bike.
Woods riding gives you a great feeling once you gain some speed. Just a B H.S old guy 🙋♂️
Great advice! I find focused breathing calms my mind but still focusing on a whole corner and will try segmenting like you mention. So much helpful info on body position and riding which we didn’t have way back in the day. Returning to sport after kids are older and it has helped a lot!
I listened to this on the way to Aztalan (WI) track ride tonight. And it was great to focus on being lose and in the flow. Your more than a rider brother - it’s to speaks volumes with the tips and insight you give. Thanks as always and track day #7 in the books at age 38
Hey Ryan, Idk if you'll read this but, your videos help me a lot. Mentally but also improving on my dirtbike. I feel you in this message as well. I lose all daily stress and worries when I am on the motorcycle. This sport gives me such a good feeling that no other hobby can give me. I wish I lived in the USA where the sport is so alive, because here in Belgium the sport is dying sadly.
When I race my car it's the only time I'm free ..I understand exactly what you're saying Ryan. Amazing feeling.
This is all really good advice and valuable perspective, especially for vet riders. Thanks Ryan! Always great to listen to your insights in making us better riders on and off the bike.
Yep! Totally get that! I'm never so in the moment as when I'm motocross riding, or snowboarding, or rock climbing, it's why I love them so much!
When I ride, I just can't seem to unlock my hips. I'm a taller rider. 6'4 on a 450. My technique is improving. My speed is starting to come. Just really want to put myself in best position to ride fast but do it as safe as I can. The industry needs a Ryno! Love everything you stand for man!
I say the same thing often.
I’ve also said it’s why so many ex professional athletes struggle when their career is over. Everything they did and focused on to calm thei mind (or distract their mind) is gone. So the noise, thoughts and negativity can creep back in.
That’s why I always end up defaulting back to the Motorcycle as therapy for my brain.
Great video and insight. Your mental and technical walk throughs are very straightforward and relatable.
I love it, it’s my addiction for many of the reasons you listed and more. Unfortunately I can’t afford the injuries anymore so I’ll have to give it up. Trying to find something that substitutes moto is going to be tough. Keep rockin and spreading the gospel (or knowledge) Ryan it’s invaluable to many if not all of us.
I think you living in that outdoor lifestyle is the real reason
I'm so happy you got on a bike again! That's your destiny brother! Ride when it feels right! I've always thought riding is better than any therapist or anything!!
Man I’m lacking that feeling bad right now, it’ll be possibly 8 months off the bike from my knee injury. I find that feeling you described is so refreshing because it’s a rare moment of 100% truth in life. Just you and the bike and if you mess up you fall. Most other aspects of life are full of peoples made up bs.
Off the bike 1 year with the same
hope you recover fully,,and ride again
Very interested and rare observation. Thank you for sharing.
This makes a lot of sense for me Ryno. Thank you,
I agree one million percent. When I moved from NY to NC I started Dual Sport riding. If you think MX requires concentration, try Dual Sport. Off road riding is the best therapy for blocking out the world and quieting the mind. Thanks for this video Ryan.
Great to hear you’re riding again ryno . I don’t know how some pros can stop completely and play golf
Learning this is so true! New to sport and was trying to be fast by just charging around everywhere. On the gas to early in corners and jumping out of ruts and just botching it everywhere. I've since learned to roll in to corners and be patient to the apex and slowly roll on throttle etc. I wish that I know this from the beginning as it's hard to undo that mentality. I just practice a lot slower now on sections focusing on proper movement patterns and throttle use. The big thing is eliminating all the little throttle chops in corners and being smooth. Probably the most fun and challenging sport that I've participated in. I like what Ryan says about breaking it down and focusing on doing one part right at a time.
I raced when I was younger, did a bit again during the last five years but deffo realised that I enjoy just riding on my own practicing more, concentrating is good for the mind and as you say it chills me out a lot just trying to hit the perfect line 😎
small actionable steps to achieve larger picture
Foundation of Flow ; )
gold!
26 and started riding 2 months ago because a coworker asked me if I wanted to try it.
It's a really good experience for someone who was always risk averse.
Ryan are you riding again ? Good to hear you back on the bike
Hey Ryan
Just found your channel and love it especially the one about fear I’m struggling with it a bit as I’ve had a serious get off in the past . Thanks for the tips I appreciate it 👍
not proud of but if not where for Dirt bikes i will be a drunk or an addict. This keep me on the good side of life
💯👍Pros go into it knowing they can do it amateurs go in wondering if they can do it.😂
Nothing will keep him off that bike but it's good that you felt a lot better after riding for a while your not gonna fall off from your own doing it's always a bad luck sinario that gets in your way
You have to look after your neck it's still a serious injury
That make sense for sure, thank you.
Generally I don’t encourage elite riders that have had major vertebrae/spinal injuries to get back. Especially older ones. But dude, I’m almost 65, a once upon a time wanna be that’s found missing riding is cruel and unusual punishment.
If you want to ride, set a new reasonable goal. My transforming goal was seeing an 85 year old guy still getting at on his KTM. When I saw him I reflected on my early racing days were I ran 100% from the drop of the gate, but only had 80% in the tank at the end.
I knew from moto, that I had to change my goals if I wanted to still twist the throttle at 85.
That meant I had to avoid injuries. As a competitive spirit, just like you talked about focusing in on the braking and details instead getting ahead of myself, I decided to be better at all the small things. In essence. Im going slower to go faster, but more importantly having just as much fun knowing I’ll be at my best once I’m 85.
I never sleep better/more soundly than after a ride day. Even compared to a long distance triathlon or something. The mind just completely calms and after being so on point… it’s just ready to shut down and relax.
RYNO IS MY GURU - Amazing Unique Insite
Exactly right. 58 and still riding. It takes your mind off of everything.
The Flow State when everything’s automatic & effortless! In the Zone, you’ve still got it but it takes more thought! Is that the difference between Pro & Amateur?
Great advice thank you
My 30+ years of MX experience has definitely helped me with my commute in and out of NYC !
The city-it’s in this S-hole keep me on my toes and I need to focus on my daily driving every second!!
Keep up the good work Rino.
After taking a step away from moto and coming back with a different mind set of just fun and smooth I have had more fun and rode better than I ever have
Good shit !!! 💪👍
Is there other people out there in the same boat as me? Im 37, and I feel lost when I dont ride, and when I do I get conflicting thought's like I'm to old to be focing on this, other people around me are on to big and better things as a social society stand point, or it takes away other things I could be doing in my life. I just feel so lost without it because it's all I've ever known since I was 4 years old. It's taken me out of dark places from family issues and relationship break ups, it keeps we healthy and a why and purposes to put in gym and exercise work. I struggle a lot with this. I think it would help me knowing others are in similar thought patterns.
Healthy for your brain as long as you don't rattle it. Do you have any feedback from vets on what it's like to ride as you age? Are there ways to save your shoulders or your knees?
One rut one jump at a time if you can afford the bike smell in the back of your van sunset peaceful cruise home, even if you underachieve not by choice.
God bless you you good human. Burn gas and kick ass! Thank you for describing what the human body and brain will do and in finding that peace, or that groove. Finding one’s rhythm- good days & blending the bad days ;-)
Frame rate and temporal aspects of the brain. 👍
Hyper-focused
Ryno I would love doing a training with you, you are definitely in an other level in term of teaching

Drug is called true happiness.
Best of the best
I recognized that during my divorce. She popped in my head over a jump, so I smaked my helmet and said, "Oh no, you ain't." 😊 Moto is my happy place. 😁
Motocross is my ritalin
Hey ryno when will you come for classes California again id love to come amd train i check the webssite and only shows feb 2023
100% agree
It’s called being in the flow.
Hey Ryno, are you going to start classes back up here in Temecula?
Everyone once in a while. Focusing on getting online classes made to reach more people worldwide.
Wonder what Ryno’s view on religion is?
Need 21 questions with ryno
Ryan
Always love your videos! Just a question, on your Ryno Power website, is there an Mtn. Bike specific weight training program that you offer?
mr ryan i have a question: my main bike is kx250 which i want to use in tracks but i am thinking of using my other bike klx140 for training and learning the basics, what do you recommend? i use the main one or train first? what is the difference between these two sizes,is it wasting time or i am doing the right thing?
ryno is the Phil Jackson of moto world
cool Rhino sculpture... You'll be the guy out there at 70 something, come back shoot a video and be like, "This is the last time"... and then the next year, shoot the same video...
My street bike gives me all this and more.
Have you ridden Enduro?
Ryno. I had a fight at a race last weekend. I wanna quit. Because of my action and because money has changed people. Got any recommendations before I just give up.
What was there to fight about? If I let others actions make my decisions I wouldn't be very happy. You should keep riding if it's what you love. There will always be guys that ruin it for others, they just aren't going to ruin it for me.
Anyone around here know how I could get a hold of Mike Craig?
Ryan, talk to us about electric bike...
What you said!
I just ordered a Stark Varg, main reason is that with that bike I can ride on the balls of my feet at all times.
No moving my feet to shift gear or breaking.
I reckon that makes it easier to maintain a proper attack position at all times..
Yeah, yeah, blah blah blah... What I want to know is where you got your cool pillows?
So what drugs have you had? 👀
