I live by a bison farm and I drive by them twice a day. I am amazed by the fact that the snow will fall on them and it doesn't melt! It just keeps piling up. They must be so insulated for their body heat not to even touch it. The babies in the spring are adorable too. I talked to the farmer once about them and he told me a story that when he first had them, he also had a horse and they killed it

If you want to see more Bison across the country you need to eat more Bison. Think about it, cattle number upwards of 94 million, Bison are at roughly 600,000. Cattle numbers reach this high because we as a society value them economically. Bison populations can continue to grow if there is economic incentive to do so. This can and is happening in large part to consumers speaking with their dollars.

They used to travel with the seasons. In the winter they were in the southern plains then as the seasons warmed up they would travel north. These are most likely migrating to a section of the park that doesn't hold onto the snow because of the hot springs in the area.

They do to a certain extent but they don't want them getting comfortable around people. That has happened with bears and their are people killed by bears every year.
