    Like in other countries. Public transport should be handled by the government not by private operators so that our taxes can serve the people. Then you can hire these drivers and give them a job and monitor them. But this scheme they are proposing is just a business move for the greedy friends of whoever is on top.

      This is true! Sinasahuran ng govt ang public drivers sa ibang bansa. Sana ganon nalang gawin kung gusto talaga nila imodernized ang jeepney. Hindi yung mga negosyante lang yumayaman. 🫠 Kaya walang unlad kahit anong sipag at tyaga ng ibang tao dito sa Pinas. Sad lang

      ​​​​@@AmazingCal mali sa ibang bansa Goverment and Private partnership yun walang 100% own na Goverment ganun ang Set-up na gustong gawin dito, hindi kaya ng anumang Demokratikong Gobyerno na pumasok ng negosyo o mag-manage ng Negosyo hati with Private Company sila ang nagpapasahod at nagmamaintenance at yung Gobyerno naman ni-reregulate at sinisuguro makuha at maayos ang mga Benipsyo ng mga Empleyado ng mga Public Transpo . yung 100% own Goverment Set-up sa mga Bansang Totalitarian lang katulad ng North korea , Cuba. yung sa China , Taiwan , UK ,Singapore eh Goverment & Private partnerships as in 50/50 set-up na mula sa dating 100% own Goverment pero na-realize nila nilang hindi kaya ng Gobyerno i-handle lahat kaylangan talaga ng tulong mula sa Privates Business Groups.

      ​@@doobervallard It's because ang toll system in highways such as NLEX and SLEX doesn't show any issues to it's users if so and it happen's to show issues. The pros/benefits out ways the negative. Unlike tradional jeeps are cheaper. The con's outway's the positive impact.
      The government do have national highways. In which people can use it for without toll's. Nlex,Slex and others are owned by private companies by the way.

    Well said tatay, kung gustong gawin ng gobyerno ang modernization they should think about the small operators and drivers. The government must give subsidies to all the existing operators, ie. The operator just pays 50% of the price, the government pays the 50% of the price of the new jeep

    Modernization should proceed BUT with proper plans and support for the existing drivers. The program can take as long as 10 or 20 years as long as it is a well planned gradual transition and will not left the drivers jobless.

    Anti poor talaga ang gobyerno ngayon kasi una sa lahat magsasaka ang naging kawawa. Tapos ngayon mga driver. Hindi pa rin sila natuto kasi mga mahihirap naman ang mga madaming bumoto kaya nandyan ang mga nakaupo sa posisyon.

    Problema kasi jan sobrang mahal nyang bago.. ang ginawa dapat ng gobyerno umorder ng Euro4 na makina tapos ang ipapautang na lang ay ang pagpapa-ayos sa mga existing na jeep para maging compliant... Sala ang plano...Yang mga existing jeep madali namang pagandahin yan kung may budget eh... Taasan ng bubong at lagyan ng pinto sa gilid at Euro4 na makina, yan lang naman eh.. di kakayanain yang P2.5 to P2.8M na huhulugan.

    The government should clearly state standards for modern Jeeps and listen to these drivers. These old Jeeps can be retrofitted for cleaner emissions at di kailangan mabaon sa utang ang mga drivers. The government should study this carefully and implement with inputs from all stakeholders.

    I personally would like to have the jeepneys modernized however the cost to do so shouldn’t be burdened on the drivers but the government as it is their project. PDP Laban with their political alignment as SOCIAL DEMOCRATS should call for the government to take the burden of funding the modernization of jeepneys.

      I would also like to add that there are multiple features within the prototype that is unessential which could be removed to lower the cost: automated fare collection system most people using the jeep wouldn’t own a card they’d usually pay with coins, GPS jeepneys have designated routes which they travel on a daily which would render this unnecessary, and CCTV cameras it is good for safety however considering that you’re charging drivers to upgrade their current system I would prefer if you used cheaper cameras to lower the cost, and weight wich would also lower fuel consumption.
      Not to mention that going with the current 2023 budget of 5 trillion Philippine Pesos you could alot around 525 billion instead of a measly 2.2 billion to make the new ejeepneys free. Not to mention that if you lower the cost per unit this amount would go down by a lot. Even if it were to lessen by a lot.
      Assuming that 2.2b are fixed costs then you’ll need to replace around 250,000 jeepneys. Going with the current proposal of 2.1 million per unit that will cost you a total of 527.2billion but if the unit price were to lessen even by 100,000 then the cost should go down to about 502.2 billion. Which is around 10% of the 2023 budget. This should fit right in the allocated 1.5 trillion for economic services to be specific the 828.5 billion allocated for communications roads and other transports.
      The government could also have the drivers trade in their current jeepneys as “compensation” and use the scrap metal and other materials harvestable from it to gain another source of revenue.

    I'm taking that route of pateros to guada, trust me I haven't seen any single mini bus taking that particular route. If they really push through the phaseout, most probably no minibus will take that route, affecting all Filipino commuters and drivers

      If private operators can no longer afford to ply that route. The government could take over to run a Municipal bus service.
      The thing with public transit as a service, is not designed to make a profit. Governments overseas subsidize transit to stimulate the economy. It has always been a loss leader.
      We privatized transit in the Philippines because our government simply can't afford it to finance and operate a muni bus service or railway service. So the government has to grant franchises and partner with the private sector to build trains.

    Never had a chance to ride it.

      Pang 3rd world po ang jeepney kasi walang aircon.
      Nung sumakay ako ng city bus may mga foreinger na sumasakay kasi aircon tapos libre sakay pa.
      mas gusto ko na shuttle bus kasi aircon kesa pahirapan ko pa sarili ko papasok at pauwi ng trabaho sa Jeep na mainit at siksikan
      Sobrang init dito sa Pinas tapos dagdagan pa ng maduming usok ng jeepney na sumisira sa ozone layer natin

Kahit naman ako gusto ko de airon ang sasakyan, sana tinitignan mo/nila ang kalagayan ng mga jeepney driver. Baka nalilimutan mo nung lockdown na mamalimos mga jeepney driver, ngayon palang sila/tayo babawi sa lockdown tapos dadagdag pa ang pagtaas ng inflation, sa tinging mo kakayan kagad ang modernization ng jeepney? Kung di pa nga sila mag strike hanggang june na lang sila eh. Uulitin ko yes sa jeepney modernization pero dapat di minamadali kasi babangon palang tayo sa lockdown. One step at a time.

    Sana may mas murang mini bus na makukunan ng alternatibo. Sana lumikha makabagong desenyo ang pamahalaan Para maging gabay ng mga operators at jeepney driver para maiangat ang kaligtasan at kaginhawahan ng mga pasahero na gawang Pilipino .
    Desenyong ligtas, mataas ang kalidad at maginhawang sasakyan ( tricycle at jeepney) na maituturing na Pilipino at di Maka Instik o Maka Koreano o Maka Hapon.

    The Jeepney is an icon of the Philippines. Tourists expect to see and ride a jeepney. Why do the ph want to lose this? There must be other ways to keep them on the streets but in a cleaner way. Phase out is just the easy way out.

    Yung gusto kung sabihin na DESURB sa mga jeepney driver dahil binoto niyo si BBM, kaya lang napag alaman ko na grabe ang misinformation na ginawa niya just to hook the drivers to vote for him. Mahirap talaga maging mahirap. And take note: Si BBM ay pro businessman, at wala siyang paki sa mahihirap.

      Tumpak mismo dahil sa lahat ng sinabi nya jan sa mga Jeepney driver eh hindi nagkatotoo. Delaying tactics lang din ang nangyari after election eto nanaman kasi malaki ang pera jan. Kaya deserved lang din ng mga tao para matuto mismo sila dahil panawagan nga naman eh UNITY.

    It is past time for those jeepneys to go!!! The owners of those jeepneys are not following any road rules, parking anywhere they please, leaving jeepneys abandoned, etc. Trikes, and bicycle taxes should go also. All of those pollute the air and cause massive traffic jams. The new modernization transport vehicles should be owned by the government, and they should hire drivers on a monthly salary. It has worked in all other countries. And it will work in the Philippines.

    I standardize na kasi public transport, owned and run by the government at hindi ng mga private owners. Bilhin nalang ng gobyerno mga jeep manufacturer para isang standard lang mga unit para hindi na mamili sa ibang bansa..kung talagang maganda ang pakay, andaming paraan.
