How do you like the box so far? I currently have 4 brands in mind:
Mi box s - I don't need netflix/amazon prime, so besides that I don't see any advantages.
X96 air - Looks nice, but seems to overheat a little, has higher antutu benchmark than the A95X F3, but in Chigz's reviews Asphalt looked so much better and smooth on the A95X F3 while it really seems to lag on the X96 air, even though I don't know if it really indicates much.
X96 max plus - Looks like a better version of the X96 air, gigabit ethernet connection, higher antutu bencmarks but I didn't see many reviews on it just yet, only saw that it overheats a bit, and you could get gigabit ethernet by using a USB so that's not much of an advantage.
A95X F3 - Looks like a simple decent box, running very smooth, OTA updates. I just don't find any disadvantage to it besides netflix which I don't need.

@@msacco I also don't use netflix or amazon prime video on my android box. I am completely satisfied with my A95X F3. The only problem with it is that the led light cannot be turned off and the status bar won't work most of the time.
Apart from these two bugs, the box runs really smoothly. There is no throttling or heating.
Everything works fine and I'm glad that I made the right choice.
Do you ever do some form of web browsing tests with these boxes? Seems like that would be the second most used feature and then gaming.

Hello. Do you know why x96 air measures such low speeds on the built-in storage? On the box it says (eMMC room) it is a kind of memory card technology. Both eMMC and SSD operated on the NAND principles, where the data is transmitted through the NAND ports. eMMC usually has only one NAND port, while SSDs tend to have more. Think of the NAND gates as highways that allow the flow of traffic. If a city has only one highway in and out, it will probably be congested at all times, and traffic will move slowly. But if there are several highways, the traffic is distributed between them, so that the cars, that is, the data moves faster. This is what happens between eMMC and SSD. SSDs usually have a much faster read-write speed compared to eMMC. The top speed of SSD is about 1500 MB / s, while for eMMC the top speed is only 400 MB / s. SSD still quite expensive. Consumer level SSDs are up to four times more expensive than HDDs, which in turn are quite more expensive than eMMCs. This is why SSDs are rarely used in consumer-level electronics.
Specs are fine but what worries me is lack of ventilation. Overheating and lag issues are to be expected.
Have x96 air and am happy with it, its insanely cheap, and switched 600e+ book that i was using before which couldn't even handle 1080 and not dream about 4k lol. + it has remote! :P
But 2 warnings.
If your videos freeze time to time = your external harddrive is slow
If all your videos have lip-sync issues, no matter what kind of player you use - Reason is you have Samsung TV and it is not set to PCM audio (Got me some annoying time to figure that one)
That's actually REALLY good for 29 dollars.

100 megabits, not megabytes, although the p2 revision actually has a gigabit LAN port.
I had hoped this would be a one-stop shop box to meet all of my needs, but annoyingly HDR2SDR tone mapping isn’t quite right so I still have to use my old S905X box for HDR videos. Not sure it’s something Amlogic can or will address after the fact. Still a good box for the price though.

That HDMI connector is the micro Type D one, is it not? Would you please specify that instead of saying HDMI
4gb versions are 1000 mb lan. only the first revision (x96air_p1) in oct/early nov are all 100 mb lan.

I have the x88 made by this same company runs perfectly fine with 2Gb ram 16gb harddrive on Android 9.0 with the RK3318 chip.
Although I don't do much gaming I'd be surprised if it couldn't handle 2D games

At $29 dollars you could get a fire stick on sale and have Netflix and Prime in HD, with regular updates and a full warranty. This box is cheap because the 905 and the Mali g31 are "Ancient". 100 mbs internet speeds is more than enough for most people.

What’s the difference between rooted and non rooted?? New to android box, currently on firestick thru out my house. And are there any boxes out there that have Netflix higher than 480?
Surfing The Tube root access allows you to do whatever you want with the system including installing third party app without a problem....non root does not allow that except by side loading apps
If it's rooted, it's not allowed to play Netflix or Amazon in HD. Yes there's boxes out there that are not rooted that will play in HD. Learn the in's and out's of how to use a fire stick; at least you have Amazon behind the warranty and Amazon supplies regular updates, unlike the claimed OTA updates from these Chinese box manufactures. I only use a fire stick for all my streaming.
Also you shouldn't shame a device just because they stream Netflix 480p
There's tons of third party apps that streams the same show at 1080-4K no problem.

Yeah, good point. Definitely doesn't have active cooling, nor any vents where it matters for the passive heatsinks. It's either completely closed or the ridges are mounted on the bottom side. Either way, I've found some info from owners that claim that it does overheat and slows down (especially during gaming). It's still a decent choice for people that don't mind slightly modifying the box I guess.. but I'm gonna go with A95X F3 instead.

Great review as always...these box manufacturers don't make any sense. How can you support 4k & 8k content with ONLY 100Mbps max via LAN? 🙄🤔
The later revisions have gigabit LAN, but you can still play 4K+ content from external media on the older ones.
I just googled it and it seems that you should be fine using it for streaming like Netflix at least (not that this device supports more than 480p for Netflix, but anyway just as a reference), their requirement is 25Mbps for 4k but they apparently dont use anywhere near that in reality and 8k which seems pretty pointless in general will most likely require well below 100Mbps as well.
Is there a reason why you can't use a usb mouse with this box and is there a way you can use a mouse? When you use a mouse instead of the included remote you can't click on anything in youtube and you can't move icons around. Theses are now $60 and not being able to use a mouse is kinda ridiculous.
Thats because of the youtube app on this boxes which is designed to work only in "button mode" and with voice commands. Mouses and clicks on buttons or icons in this youtube TV app not supported. My suggestion, try the official youtube app for mobile and tablets from Google Play Store if it is possible. Alternatively give a try to download it from the web as APK file and try to install it manually. In that app your mouse will work without issues. Hope i was helpfull.

Unfortunately chipset has a bug on the ethernet connection, meaning that VPN connection will disable the port!
