- Something about the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X seems to be lacking. A lot of people have expressed a lack of excitement about going next-gen when there are so many other options out there. Consoles feel like less useful PCs to many and that is not going over well for a lot of people. Here's my reaction to Zenkai Gooses video.

the worst part of this generation is games media. Its turned into sensationalist BS and constant rumors and click bait. We used to get rumors occasionally, maybe something out of left field. But now we're reached a point where nothing from games media can be trusted unless its on screen in front of us from the developer/publisher.

Because they want you to get a PC that where your not guaranteed to get a working game because of your video card and specs. I’m 44 too and had the Atari 2600 all the way through Nintendo GameQube to PS1&2 and Xbox OG/360. These days most games are Garbage

I play on ps5 and xbox because I’m too old to deal with cheaters, viruses, blue screens, drivers, you name it. I just want to sit on my couch and enjoy games for a couple of hours before going to bed.

@@FURognar I'm not sure we even need that next generation anymore. If a new gen does launch I'm pretty confident that Xbox will keep streaming it through cloud. Hell maybe run some of the game local and do the ray tracing or whatever on the cloud. Do we even need more generations once cloud is perfected?
@@ViridianFlow eventually the hardware gets outdated as technology continues to advance. I think 7 years is a good amount of time between generations. I can see that extending to 10 years between at some point. Console generations used to be 5 years apart until the Xbox 360 and PS3 gen, then it shifted to 7 years.
@@FURognar Sure but what I'm saying is the hardware that runs the cloud can upgrade constantly whenever they have the tech. Unless they want to change something completely fundamental like the input style (like going from a standard controller to a VR controler) the hardware at your house doesn't matter all that much anymore, or at least it matters less today than it did yesterday and will keep moving in that direction so long as internet speeds keep improving.
I do think most AAA developers have lost sight of the 'fun'. Graphics are pretty and all but they are ultimately pointless.

They are to me, especially the sx when it comes to how it handles bc capabilities. Sure I could do this with a pc but seeing games I already own from generations ago boosted is fantastic.
I owned 360, ps3 and 3ds. I owned xbox one and switch. I own no current gen consoles. It's that exciting!
People seem to have memoryholed how devastating the COVID lockdowns were on the gaming industry. It destroyed console availability for what 2 almost 3 years, It destroyed the development of games. It set the entire industry back about 4 years. Compound that with now they are corrupting games with WOKE and DEI nonsense and we have got the crap we have. You refuse to cover the woke DEI crap but it is destroying the industry.
I don't the OS aren't as good Xbox One style UI/groups over folder,, yes I hate them on Switch and PS5 as well and I get enough of the annoyance on Xbox One and the slow OS is terrible.
Boring or underwhelming peripherals VR/Portal, Quick resume is ok.
Games I did care about flop or not worth the jump in execution or their priorities due to TH-camr media, audiences or game Dev/pub staff direction.
Square's 2022 published games I bought as interested me. All had rough game design that's just pathetic even besides Foamstars where I had more ideas for it then the final game had content that's how fun thinking up ideas for foam as a game mechanic was for a bad game then playing it. That how bland some games are for content handling or game design.
An N64 game has more Moveset depth then Biomutant for animal abilities or fun factor. Let alone Little Kitty Big City because cuteness over fun game play or DEPTH. Because audiences.
Games being more boring with generic movesets or mechanics I play current gen and old gen gems I've never heard of no nostalgia and modern gaming is boring in the game design.
Varies per genre but even still it's on the Devs to make it FUN yet I find most not fun at all and don't buy them.
I find a few current gen yes but even most major or even Indies too old school inspired don't put a spin on things. They would rather copy paste and get emotional nostalgia sales because audiences are dumb enough to buy them.
Too safe, too dumbed down, boring games, boring consoles. I collect for current and old gen all 3 and never been so bored.
PS4/Xbox One gen I already felt it in 2017-2021 when I bought a Wii U/3DS/Vita and Switch because the gen was so boring.
Other than Dreams I didn't support Sony at all other than 2017 and older. Barely did I buy an Xbox game till I found Forza Motorsport 6&7, Crackdown 3, Quantum Break, or others over time in this gen.
I don't regret buying them.
Especially PSP Minis and mobile good Indies on Wii U besides the big games. 2010s flash or mobile was great.
Switch it's gimmicks aren't that impressive but it's a better platform for me to get what I'm looking for of third parties if PS4/Xbox One doesn't have them then the other platforms.
Creativity is dead. As much as racing games push licenses cars when 20+ years ago I can find actual mechanics and depth not just cars to sell and attract people as the laziest form of interest. The genre sucks as many racing TH-camrs point out and only play the old ones for video ideas.
I came to my thoughts on my own not just by watching others as I agree with many of them prior to their videos.
I love the Series X generation so far, far better than the Xbox One imo.

The Series X is good and all but this gen is nothing like the 360 gen. Game after game, multiple sequels in a franchise in the same generation etc.

Played on PC for 8 years. Got tired of upgrades. Got tired of games not working at first attempt, WHICH STILL HAPPENS. DrDisrespect has a few recent videos where he goes ballistic because he can't get the game to even launch and we have all felt what he hilariously displayed. Got tired of having 3 or 4 different game launchers. PC gaming is a continual pain in the ass.

The main benefit for a console at this point is the price point. You won’t get the same quality at the price point in the PC world.
The margin of that benefit is getting smaller though. Consoles are getting more expensive and even mid gen refreshes aren't cheaper as they used to be, games are more expensive too.
On PC you can build a good gaming rig with a 2nd hand GPU with similar performance for a decent price. Still more expensive initially but much cheaper to upgrade later than buying a whole new console for example the PS5 Pro for relatively small gains.

Except a second-hand console is also cheaper, too. Like right now, we can get an Xbox Series X|S for $350.00 and $200, respectively. No PC built with secondhand parts for either of those price points would be worth a damn.
And game prices on console are super cheap, too. CDkeys, Eneba, and other websites sell their console games almost as cheap as the PC games. In some instances, just as cheap. Games on console haven't been "expensive" since 2017 by my count.
@@rodriguezkev - I agree. The selling point for a console was you could game cheaper, and easier. That’s slowly eroded over the years. At this rate, PC and console won’t be far enough apart to warrant the price point.

Its because a big parts of studios game dev don't create games and universe with ideas in mind using their creativity anymore , Xbox and Sony just ask them that they need to do a hero shooter, a souls like, a horror game , a fps or other type of game just to have one to sell and touch a public
It's felt like being strung along in a bad relationship, and we keep looking back on how great things used to be.
Never regretted moving to PC after the 360. Left on a high note.

@@amazingamazigh1538 the ps3 got good toward the end of the generation once Xbox started moving forward with the Xbox one. But for the vast majority of the gen 360 was dominating.

The biggest issue for this gen is how long games take to make.
well we do have to remember this gen had a really bad start with first 2 year shutdown and logistic lines in shambles for at least a year later. I say this also reason budgets are also more bloated that and the fact the people demand more pay and everyone want their pound of flesh when you use their product.

The Golden Age of gaming was 2001-2011. There are still great games made like Elden Ring but as a whole the industry is not what it was.

I was lucky(?) enough to secure a PS5 at launch. I played Cyberpunk on it and it was still pretty shitty. Can't imagine how it ran on PS4.

We're seeing the FRUIT of the ideology/environment that they've cultivated for years. This is the environment and culture that they have created for their consoles to exist in, where just enjoying a fun game isn't enough(but even that they rarely achieve). Everything must conform to a perceived 'AAA' moniker, even while studios are struggling to get games out. It is DEMONSTRABLE that the current market is quite happy to mix things up a bit(ie: lower budget games do achieve amazing success), but these big-brain publishers only look at cherry picked data.
Even now, they are STILL doubling down on their 'Presentation-First' approach to game design, on top of a heavy-handed methodology to the budgets involved, as though quality scales linearly with budgets(let alone scales at all!). Good luck!🤦🏽♂️

I can't imagine complaining about the number or quality of games coming out right now. The last few years have seen so many incredible games. I wish gamepass was a thing back on the 360 when I was in college and could only afford a few games per year.

Because people expected something that isnt yet possible with modern hardware in a console form factor? Everyone expected 4k 120FPS and mind blowing graphics and I'm sorry to tell you but we dont have that kind of hardware at this price point yet and most likely wont have it for atleast another 10-15 years.

For me personally, nothing has really changed. I didn't play many games 20 years ago and I still don't play many today, but I can tell you one thing for sure. This is the first cycle where I can see myself play more than ever towards the end of it simply because games are becoming more cinematic and less "gamey" which usually breaks the immersion. So yeah, there is no definite answer. it's completely subjective
As a PC gamer who gets Xbox titles Day 1 and can sail the high seas to circumvent the awful PSN requiremt to play PS games, I'm liking this generation so far
You're a PC gamer that's why you like this wack generation of downgraded PCs.
It all goes downhill when they try to bring pc experience to console. High graphics, more patches fixes, fiddling with updates and upgrades. This is why the Nintendo traditional model kick their ass. Console has always been , slide in the disc and cartridge and play. We can get back , look for technology that works like that - don’t be pc about it.
I said before the release of this gen. They needed to wait a couple of more years. The mid-gen releases should have extended the generation length by a few years. Due to the pandemic, we are just getting back to normal schedules.

I’ve had a really great time with this generation. Buying the Series S after not having an Xbox since the 360 was an amazing experience. And my ps5 has treated me well. I work at my computer, no way do I want to play my games at a computer lol.
It’s all very well proselytising on the benefits of PC, I’m sure many of us would play there if it wasn’t so prohibitively expensive for many gamers.
I honestly think it depends on what games you are playing. I think there has been plenty of good games this generation and more are on the way. I think people need to broaden their horizons more and play different types of games across multiple platforms.

Destin, great video as always. One thing I disagree with though is that day one games should be completely flawless. Yes, for 70 dollars, they should be as bugfree as possible, but people have a VERY bad memory and remember games with rose tinted glasses. Games used to be buggy and unbalanced as HELL and it was on the player's shoulders to overcome those issues in lieu of fun. I still rock my 360 and old PC, go and pop in some of the older games, NFS Most Wanted from 2005, Kameo, Mafia 1, even older stuff, some of the older arcade games especially will blow your mind. Unfair mechanics, bugs aplenty, enemies headshot you through walls and corners, in racing when you escape the cops, "AI" rubberbands them forward, visual glitches, unbelievable difficulty spikes...
Games are supposed to be playable from start to finish and they're supposed to be FUN first and foremost. You've mentioned Halo MCC, I got the boxed version in 2014 at launch and played it from start to finish without issues, it was GREAT fun. Give me a buggy game any day if it's something I can't stop playing, rather than a polished but absolutely sterile game. People are too entitled these days, software is 10 times more complex than before and it's impossible to catch all bugs prior to real user testing. It's the big ass youtubers and game outlets who detect a couple of bugs and then quickly spread around the negativity which catches on like wildfire, which screws up many a game's reputation. People are so bored these days with variety that they start nitpicking every little bug under the sun.
Love my PC, I work on it, watch movies and videos on it, play games on it, shop on it. I have two 50" monitors, 64gb Ram, x box controllers, Racing Sim Wheels, Flight Sticks. It does everything I want. I haven't bought a console since PS3. With Steam and GamePass I'm all set.
The PS3/360 era was insane. We got three Arkham games, three Uncharted games, two GTA's, Last of Us, three Maas Effects...Jesus.

Destin don’t even start rationalizing this cross gen bs we’re still having to deal with. This is absolutely fkn ridiculous we’re still getting games releasing for hardware that was released 10 years ago!!!! If they stopped doing that then EVERYONE WOULD UPGRADE to series consoles and ps5 they wouldn’t have to worry about only selling to 20 million people instead of 300 million.
Too much money out there & if the consoles were truly unable to play those games, then they wouldn't make games for those consoles lol. Yall forget that game development takes on average 3-5 years pending size & scope.
Besides, they discontinued Xbox One consoles several years ago. Idk if Sony discontinued the PS4, and if so, it was likely only last year.
@@atlien1988 that’s the whole point bro. They are still making games that run on those consoles, meaning are games are watered down versions of what they could be. We could literally have all games at the quality and graphics levels of games like Alan wake 2 and hellblade 2 and others if they would just stop trying to make them work on 10 year old hardware. Shit is ridiculous. I can understand a year or 2 at most after new consoles come out to make them cross gen but after that people need to upgrade or be left behind it’s as simple as that.
@@sneakkyz3696 That's a misconception because consoles are PCs now so they share roughly the same architecture. Because of that games are scalable. Your logic would have been true during the era of exotic custom chipsets but isn't anymore. Like Hellblade 2 will run on a GTX 1070. Ratchet runs on a RX 470. The truth is the PS5 and XB Series are really not that powerful since they are APU based X86 boxes.

Honest. I’m slowly gravitating towards just owning a pc and Nintendo consoles going forward .
I've never had to think about game updates on my Series S. I think it just comes on and updates both the system and games at like 5am. Actually no, there is sometimes 3 or 4 updates in the que when I turn it on. But for the most part, most of the heavy lifting happens in the early hours.
Not exciting because just about all big name developers and publishers took all their IP’s into essentially money grubbing practices, which unfortunately as the Pandora’s box has been opened, is here to stay. 70% of the time, I game on the switch over anything else. I think the next Nintendo console may be my last to be honest. Getting too old and Nintendo is generally always reliable.
my ps5 is basically a blu ray machine I use to watch physical media I don't have Netflix or any stream giants on my machine

Why buy consoles, my thought two years ago, I've already jumped to PC and after tasting freedom I could never go back to a walled off garden. Also, games take too long to make because they are worried about realism instead of fun games. I think this is why the Switch 2 has taken so long to release, because the hardware is there, they need a solid software line up and they know it.

Do console gamers not use the standby feature to catch updates? I have my PC that I leave powered off and still remember to launch Steam every now and again to catch updates. Also my buddy uses his DS5 Mic as a back up for work lmao.

It's not exciting because there isn't enough adoption of the consoles for developers to take risks. PS4 was at like 85 million by now in it's life cycle and the Xbox was around 45 to 50. It's took risky to release a big AAA new IP when even SpiderMan 2 struggled to be profitable after 4 months. I'd argue we are seeing more risks being taken at Microsoft because of Gamepass. A game like Hellblade 2 would never be profitable in a traditional business model. South by Midnight at the current production level, forget about that. Sony used to take more chances and now they are trying to figure out live services and the brand is suffering because of it. You need asses in seats to sell tickets.
This generation was only exciting in the first 1 year with the PS5 releases, after that it fell flat hard. I would argue the apex was the Demon Souls launch with PS5. Were on a 8th or 10th Halo, remakes out the kazoo, and Assassin's Creed won't stop. People are thirsting for GTA6 and Elder Scrolls 6 mainly because we don't see that sort of content regularly. There's a reason why Elden Ring and Armored Core was so exciting. These are unusual titles. They aren't the standard trend of releases. Everything is the same first/third person character action game lasting 10 to 15 hours. If Sony announced like a Tiny Tank remake or Twited Metal or Microsoft would announce like a game like Heavenly Sword from Ninja Theory or Banjo Kazooie 3, people would lose their minds.
Mostly I just want Titanfall 3.
The reaction to Kinect killed the last life signs of any innovation or creativity in the console space. Now these companies only go for power. Nothing else.

I have over 630 digital purchases with titles that were released from the OG Xbox and up this generation, which all run flawlessly on my Series X. I think the real issue has been all the toxic console drama and the fact that there are now too many games to play including remasters of past favorites.

I remember being so excited to get me pre-ordered PS2 on launch day in the UK. Now it's a struggle to get something, and the Series X I bought 5 months after launch due to COVID hasn't been that much of an advance in reality apart from loading times.
Too much bloatware and emphasis on pre-generated graphical content nowadays.
Even my 13 year old asks me periodically why Microsoft and Sony don't just work together on a single console as they're so similar nowadays. If they put their egos aside, we could have a single console that was better and cheaper overall due to economies of scale, reduced R&D and production costs, etc. They'll never do it as imagine both parties would rather fail totally than work together for the benefit of consumers.
As a console gamer, i have my plate full and a huge backlog of games to play. I could go a year without a new game and still have plenty to play
Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I think social media influencers on places like TH-cam make gaming seem terrible . Negativity sells . Is the industry perfect ? No . But I can tell you as one who grew up poor the things we have access to now is amazing . Free to play games , cross play , subscription services , publicity for indie games etc . Handheld gaming pc’s.,Games should be working on release , but we get free patches ! FREE PATCHES. back in the day , if a game was messed up you needed to wait for a re release . There’s good games and bad games . People just don’t remember the bad old ones .
Completely agree. There are plenty of great games to play, too many to fit into a measly 24 hour day. The "problem" is people like to make and watch whiny youtube videos complaining about stuff. Just go and play some games already.

Not sure why people are complaining. I'm so behind I haven't even played elden ring,hell blade 2, god of war 2, Alan wake 2 and a bunch of other big titles. Ive played a ton of games in the past 9 months and finished them and yet still have so much to go
Microsoft needs to start making 360 games again. They can make them so fast now and that’s just the thing and it won’t cost them tons of money either to make 360 games companies can make a 360 game in about six months compared to these newer games.
Although I use it all of the time, I believe that the lack of communication in games today is the advent of the party chat. Everyone is in a private party and alot of times they aren't even playing the same game.
If you put the players first, the shareholders will benefit from it. We will buy more games. We will buy more skins. We will buy more DLC. I've transitioned to PC because the consoles will not move on from the previous generation. It hurts the performance of the new hardware.
As a devil's advocate, I tried getting Dragon Age Origins to not crash on my PC for hours last week and gave up. My PS5? Click Button, videogame goes brrrrr
The problem is they killed the point of the console and didn't advance enough in tech

I think you hit the nail on the head with the point about graphical fidelity. Essentially, consoles are just affordable gaming PC’s at this point and games that are worthwhile for playing to the average consumer is costing way too much money to make. Even with that said however, I do feel like there’s an abundance of great games to play on my ps5. I actually like my ps5 better than my ps4 😅
I think the thing that makes it feel like there arent as many games is tied to sequals. Whilst there are plenty of games. For a game to have its sequal u are looking at 5+ years nowdays.
Until console makers innovate, do things, new things that are a reason to secure a console. Think way outside the box. When a gamer looks at a device and says "I can't do this anywhere else" consoles will sell again.

There is a wild backlog of games. I have no idea how ppl have played Everything and feel there are no games. I haven’t even touched Rise of the Ronin or finished GOW Valhalla. With Black Myth still coming. Star Wars is coming. Steller Blade is backlogged. Sparking Zero. Enotria. Metal Gear Delta. Warhammer. AssCreed Shadows. Elden Ring. Two Final Fantasy DLCs. There’s a new Contra. A new DOOM. And I’m still not done with all the stuff in Destiny or Borderlands 3. The Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty. Man…. I’m literally already good till next year unless something REALLY spectacular comes out 😭
A great commentary Destin and surely budgets I’d say are the #1 issue in console gaming.
Budgets are outrageous and as such the ceiling for success financially is raised to astronomical levels!!!!
If a developer doesn’t meet that astronomical level of success for profit they’re done. It’s so dang awful.
For me, I'll never buy a PC because I like to play in my living room and use it for Netflix, movies, games, TH-cam, etc. It's my family's entertainment piece. I don't want to hide away in my bedroom corner.
Back in the day my mum got me and my two brothers. The Super Nintendo with street fighter 2. Happy memories and it’s just not the same now.
Agreed on publishers/developers and day one patches. If they wanted to be more consumer friendly, they'd reach a point where the game has enough content to launch as a complete feeling game. At that point they'd stop adding features, and give anywhere between 3-6 months for QA - when the game is published on a disc, it should be playable from start to finish without any serious bugs. Any content made during this QA time would either be additional paid or free content after launch. Any patches added after should be new features or quality of life improvements, or minor bug fixes.
One of the risks of a digital only future, is publishers/developers will be even more okay with releasing every single game as paid "early access" and then never truly finishing the game.
"AA is the new AAA" is one of the truest statements I've heard in a long time. Larian and Warhorse comes to mind. AAA is too plagued by the developers trying to satisfy their shareholders, and not the people who actually play the games

If someone's definition of "having games" is _generation exclusive games_ (eg. SpiderMan2), they're gonna be disappointed going forward. Nowadays, game budgets are outta control, most publishers won't give up the opportunity selling to the huge install base of the previous gen. That's why we have a lo-fi version of Resident Evil 4R for the PS4/Xbox1 and a hi-fi version for the PS5/XsX. The same will happen to the next Xbox/PS6.
I don't understand why people don't talk about price? (years on xbox) I spent 1300 on a MSI 1080p ultra graphics, high frame rate laptop. But only 1080 at ultra. (4060) There's not a lot of extra games on the pc, the Sony games on the pc I've played are ok but nothing game changing. The series s with the full Xbox game pass should be selling like hot cakes because of the price??? its all politics and moaning. Xbox should of won the gen but people too busy moaning. I really like my pc mind as I do other stuff as it a pc. I sold my series x and still have my series s under my tv. My m8 at the work bought a ps5 and after being on xbox for years was disappointed, he agreed with me, its just politics, the xbox is a better product for the price.
I object to the idea of removing games that play on PC. I'm a console gamer I understand that if I want to spend a couple grand most games will play better on PC and be open to things like mods but that isn't a reason to remove games. If I wanted to spend the money and time optimizing the settings for a PC I would have done that before this generation but I don't because i want to be able to plug it in and play that's what a console gets you at this point a cheaper simple solution.
Yesterday evening played some PC Elden Ring and Battlefield 4 multiplayer...yes Battlefield 4 and had a great time. No console required.
Because it's sequels and remakes or prequels. No major exclusives like the 360 days. Those days are gone. Hollywood had all their good ideas.
The problem with call of duty is there are to many of them. They need to space them out every two to three years instead of every year.
I'm disappointed about these consoles. If a game is on last gen systems, then they're not taking advantage of the horsepower. Why should I choose between framerate, 120fps, 60fps.
If your problems with console gaming are updates, internet connection, game content and accessories not being included, then the answer is not just buy a PC.
My tastes are being fed. 7 Remake and Rebirth. Armored Core 6, Stellar Blade, Granblue Fantasy Relink. All good. Looking forward to Black Myth Wukong, Phantom Blade 0, Lost Soul Aside, Penny Blood, ARMed Fantasia. My wife is salivating over the impending release of Dragon Age 4.

There has been a bit of a feast/famine cycle for this generation. Last year was an example of “feast” cycle - at least for me. In a 7-day stretch, I purchased Super Mario Bros. Wonder(Switch), Spider-Man 2 (PS5), Sonic Superstars (Xbox Series X), and Mortal Kombat 1 (Xbox Series X). Hell, I have current-gen games that I have barely played. Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarök are two games that are about 25% complete. What Sony and Microsoft should do is allow the 8th generation to die. No more cross-gen games. Then, they need to focus on what made their original IPs great while simultaneously developing new ones. Finally, release COMPLETE games. Bring back the midnight launches of big IPs and LISTEN to your customers
Wow, how can someone ignore every positive thing about modern consoles?
And no nostalgia? You can play a lot of games from former generations on XSX.
And PC with all it's horrible ports and hardware pricing isn't a great solution either.

Fact is our standards have been raised extremely high and its very difficult to meet them. People go on about the golden age of the 360 generation but the fact is a 10/10 in 2007 would be a 7/10 today. Weve had it too good in many ways. Also Destin is nearly 40 years old, obviously hes not going to feel the excitement for gaming that he did 20 years ago.
