I don't know if you have, but you should react to the song "Let's Go to Heaven" by Kikuo. The song is quite underrated and I don't think anyone has yet reacted the song before.
What's wild is how they were able to turn a slow, melancholic song into an absolute banger of a battle theme. I still personally prefer Brilliant Wings for post-game battle themes, but that's just a testament to how good the entire soundtrack is!
@@wtf_is_this_handle_shit the smash remixes are mostly misses with Ultimate honestly. Or like half of them maybe. If they had the Xenoblade composers do their own remixes, they’d be bangers
My guess as to why the lead guitar is low/homogenized in the mix is because this is a battle track with a relatively average loop time (about 3 mins), while battles in the Xenoblade series can go on for a WHILE, to the point where you're hearing that loop easily 3-4 times in one fight (which would then happen again two steps later when you aggro a different enemy). I imagine they didn't want the player to be reminded of "oh hey here is this very noticeable, moment in the track I guess we've looped again", so the guitar was deliberately mixed down to something where it blends in more naturally after (many) repeated lessons. But I could be way off base with this. I agree it doesn't sound great in the mix, though I can't say I noticed while playing the game lol. Great video btw. I love when you feature Xenoblade tracks (this is just the second time, right??), they are among my favourite soundtracks of the last couple decades.
my guess is to give focus to the melody, since the song itself is a nod to a previous game’s character and if i was making it, i wouldn’t want to have the guitars over shadow everything. also in my honest opinion i just prefer softer guitars anyway so i am biased in this response
@@aylinilya. No, it's very clear 🎵 It's just not musical. That's not normal in the function of music but it's for a video game so some traditions are allowed to be excused for functionality.
The Xenoblade series is famous for their melodic power ballads, fast yet gruff electric guitars, and recurring riffs. As another pointed out already, this is actually a remix of another song from Xenoblade 2, "Drifting Soul". That song was a epic poigant song that played at emotional key moments in Xenoblade 2. It kinda became its most well known theme as a result. Here they repurposed it into a battle melody for a returning character from that game. Showing flexibility, adaptivebility, and a great continuity nod for fans.
Love this channel and learning more about the music from stuff I love. As a Xenoblade fan, I can definitely say he's only scratched the surface of Xenoblade's coolest songs!
@@DrumRollTonyReacts Counterattack, Time to Fight (Bionis Shoulder)/ Brilliant Wings, You Will Know Our Names (all of the different versions), Keves Battle theme, and Incoming! I mainly thought of the sickest battle themes. Im definitely missing a lot and I've already cheated with 3 extra songs 😅
Everybody always gives epic battle themes when asked best songs, but nobody ever tells about the other side of Xenoblade music. I would say "Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - 'Shadow of the Lowlands" is one of the best emotional song from Xenoblade. They even made music video for it, but nobody talks about it.
@@ketthefox I completely agree! I also love the more chill area theme songs like Inside the Refugee Camp, Gaur Plain, Forest of the Nopon, Fort O' Virbus night, Torigoth...basically everything 🙏
the reason the guitar shredding is not prominent around 11:45 is because this is a main characters theme turned into a battle theme, so they basically remixed a theme completely that was not originally metal and they decided to throw the electric guitars in to give it the energy you want in a battle theme. The guitar never gets to play the actual theme for the character so it's not really important to feature it in the song to convey that this song is about this character. So in context to the game it would be kind of funny if they threw the characters theme under the sound of somebody shredding like crazy.
I think Drifting Souls would be great to react next to, it’s from Xenoblade chronicles 2, the track that this is based off of. The context for the leitmotif makes this theme really nostalgic, since the track is associated with the same character in both the second and third game.
I love that you brought up the mix, and even though you find it frustrating, I’d argue it is even more so for us who aren’t as musically trained. When you aren’t as well-versed in music composition, you need the mix to properly ‘direct’ you to the part of the music you need to be paying attention to. When the mix doesn’t do this I often hear arguments that it is somehow “more tasteful”. The argument for this is essentially that by not overemphasizing certain instruments at certain time, you can emphasize it in your mind. “It gives the audience the credit that they know what to listen for” is another argument I hear. I couldn’t disagree with this more. I feel like it would be similar if a film director made the entirety of every shot in focus. When everything is in focus, it feels like nothing is
If you like Xenoblade music i strongly recommend "New Battle!!!" from the DLC future redeemed its the normal combat theme. Also this is the remixed version from Xc3 you should give the original a listen "Drifting Soul". The indol themes from Xc2 are also some of my favorites as well as "Yigdrasill" also from 2. Honestly the Xenoblade series is filled with awsome music.
I would scream so loud if you did more xenoblade! I personally think these games have some of the best soundtracks ever, and of course this one means so much more with more context, but it’s still amazing on its own
Loved your analysis here! Thank you for providing honest insight and putting things in easy to understand terms. This is my favorite track from that game, so I really appreciated the discussion 👍
I can't believe I missed this reaction! I've been dying to hear you react and analyse more Xenoblade tracks! I still think you'd fall in LOVE with the "Torna the Golden Country: Battle!!" theme from Xenoblade 2 and it's hard not to recommend "Moebius Battle" from this game (Xenoblade 3). Honourable mention to both "Brilliant Wings" from Xenoblade 3 (the hardest I've heard a sax solo go for a videogame plus the counterpart to Kaleidoscopic Core) and "Time to Fight: Bionis Shoulder" from Xenoblade Definitive Edition (which happens to be what "Brilliant Wings" is a remix of). Though if I had to recommend something absolutely MAGICAL, it wouldn't be a battle theme, it'd be an area theme by the name of "Aurora Shelf (Day)" from Xenoblade 3: Future Redeemed. Hoping you get more Xenoblade recommendations because I'd love to see them!
Hi Tony I am a new fan but you have really helped me appreciate how percussion contributes to and helps the whole ensemble function. So thank you That being said you should do Chain Attack from the Xenoblade 3 soundtrack as after listening to a bunch of your videos it seems like there is some really interesting percussion stuff goinf kn and woumd love to hear you break it down. it is also a crowd/fan favorite and many of my friends who dont play video games agree its a banger. Thanks!
XENOBLADE!! LETS GO!! Loved the reaction. Yeah, sometimes XBC themes can be bit overwhelming or too much I guess but that's what makes them so beautiful and amazing. Keep up the work! Hope to see more Xenoblade in future.
I never really noticed the guitar being too low in the mix here, but also songs like Xenoblade 2's "Incoming!" and Falcom Sound Team's "Soshite Aratanaru Michi E (Vantage Master Portable)"(the one from the Falcom Jdk Band 2008 Spring album) are even bigger offenders when it comes to questionably low guitar solo mixing, so maybe my reference point is skewed. Personally I think the bass is the instrument that stands to benefit the most from more presence.
Finally some Xenoblade music. Still waiting on that Astral Chain track... xD Anyway, about the mix, it's on a case by case basis but most of the time, they prefer guitars to stand out melodically rather than dynamically. I hear it just fine though btw. Maybe your mix is burying it. I don't know.
Might just be my shitty Apple headphones, but I wish the bass was a tad bit higher in the mix. The guitar feature for me was at a decent volume, but kinda drowned out by the percussion hits. Idk I think my headphones defaults to having the mids up more. Need to get new ones or speakers where I can eq a bit. This song is cool though! Nice progression in the first half
Great analysis! I'd love more Xenoblade reactions every now and then. I feel like Xenoblade X would be particularly interesting. My personal pick would be "In the forest (no vocal effects ver.)". All versions of this song are really good but I think the autotune/voice effects on the standard one make it slightly worse for me.
I am very unsure. Like the song is fine and all. But why do people latch on to it so hard? Like it's never even used unless you happen to have a certain postgame character in the party who requires some hoop jumping to get, and then you have to also enter a normal battle for some reason.
It's popularity probably has less to do with the quality of the track itself and more to do with the song that it samples from, along with the shear audacity to turn a melancholic vocal track into a high-energy battle theme. If people hadn't already known about Drifting Soul, I doubt this song would've gotten nearly as much attention as it did.
