      I don't really understand poker, so did ninja win that round?

    • @AgrPerez
      @AgrPerez 2 ปีที่แล้ว +98

      @@saikobanters4323 It was a draw. Ninja split the pot (the money/chips up for grabs on the table) with Phil because the best hand (or best combination of 5 cards from their 2 cards at hand and the 5 cards on the table) at play was the 5 cards that they both shared, and none of the cards in their hands (the two 7s and jacks) was able to be used into the best hand, so they could not use their cards to win the entire pot alone.
      I hope this makes a little bit of sense.

    • @Glaimis
      @Glaimis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      @@saikobanters4323 Basically, there should have been no way that Ninja would have ever won that round - thats why he was celebrating so much, even if it was a draw.
      In poker, there's a hierarchy of card combinations, going from having a high card at the bottom, to royal flush being the best. Here, a 4 pair beats a straight, a straight (5 cards with numbers in a row) beats a 3 pair, which beats a 2 pair.
      After you call all in, you see the other players hand, and that's when Ninja realised he was fucked, and Phil was glimmering with happiness.
      After the first three deck cards had been placed, Phil had a 3 pair, and Ninja was stuck with a two pair. The only hope Ninja had for winning, was somehow getting two more 7s and beating Phil with a 4 pair. But unfortunately (or fortunately) that didn't happen. And instead, a straight occurred, thereby making both Phils and Ninjas deck null, and making them tie.
      This obviously pissed off Phil as it should have been the easiest game for him, and made Ninja incredibly happy as he would be able to continue without losing a lot of money.
      Hope this helps.

      Edit 2: on a single game as a sample size, yes it is more skewed towards luck. But the argument was about the entire game and consistency. Poker as a whole over all of the games ever played is a skill driven game, that’s why there are pros that make millions.

      I think he holds 14 bracelets? (You get one for winning certain events at the World Series of Poker) He's won the main event twice. But his downfall, his game is built to play against others who think similarly, where an amateur may think 'ooh, 1 more Spade and I have a flush' a pro would more than likely fold their hand depending on how much is being bet. And the more you only play against people on your level, the harder it is to predict what amateurs will do. They don't play the percentages (Like making a call that is right 52% of the time) but just what they are feeling, it's dang hard to play against. Not sure what he thought would happen, a soft table only works in your favor if you can predict the moves the fish will make. (Fish refers to a player who will follow their feelings and chase unlikely odds, like calling a bet hoping to get a full house, even if their chance is only 1,5% or something).

    It's gotta be a major ego hit when you're considered a pro at something and then a bunch of amateurs come in and wipe the floor with you. There is certainly skill in poker, but at the same time it's rng enough that someone can come out ahead by pure luck even with some pretty dumb plays.

    In Phill Helmuth’s defense, he does that bratty whining in every single tournament he plays in. In the circuits he usually does, the other players tend to just let him rattle off, so getting fired back on was definitely a highlight of this event. But inviting Phil, they had to know he’d act just like this; it’s a given.

    • @piaxerofchaos1309
      @piaxerofchaos1309 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest, Phill is better player against pro players, than against amateurs. Pro players normally don't go all in if they don't have good hand. Amateurs can go all in with almost any card combination and they they are sometimes lucky. It's hard to play serious poker when someone go all in 2 7 offsuit middle of the game for no reason. It's even more annoying if amateur win with hand like that.

    For a split second, I wondered why you guys would elect to invite Hellmuth over a friendly guy like Negreanu. Then, I remembered, "do it for the content". Please do more stuff like this Lud, every time you take a regular TV show and put the internet-content-creator spin on it, the end result is far more entertaining. This and Mogul Money are the only pieces of Twitch-streamer content that I could show to my parents, which I think just speaks to how good this could be for you and the platform as a whole.

    This was one of the most phenomenal streams I have watched in a long time - I dont play or particularly enjoy poker, and livestreams usually hold my interest for a few minutes before I move along. I was GLUED to this stream for hours and hours... I would kill to have this (obviously not this much money) become a more normal occurrence, mixing streaming personalities playing poker with pros.

      @@saikobanters4323 I asked a friend who's a poker fiend. So they both had a pair and then they both got a straight from the table cards...because a straight is a stronger hand than any pair, that's got to be their hand. So ultimately they both ended up with the same straight for their hand, and that makes it a push and they had to split the pot. It was an INSANELY lucky deal for Ninja
