as frustrating as this show got, i have to respect the decision to not make joey and dawson the endgame couple. you don't often see the girl in the middle of a love triangle actually stay with the second guy (who is often the better option) and it's still probably the only time i've seen it happen on tv.
@@lindleiy I saw in an interview that he realized they were better for each other when he started writing the ending. I don't think the actors had something to do with it. I think he just realized that these two were probably the best thing he had ever written and they couldn't not be together lol. It's just unacceptable to think he thought otherwise.
Actually he left after season 2 so Kevin Williams wasn't responsible for lacey and joey getting together in season 3 he only came back for the season 6 finale

They rekindled their relationship when they spent the night trapped in there, they were all over each other, but as soon as Eddie shows up, Joey just dumped Pacey like yesterday's trash. She didn't need time to think, she just discarded him like he was nothing and went for Eddie instead. That sunk the Joey+Pacey ship for me. Here's a "better" ending for the show - Eveything stays the same except during Jen's wake, when Joey and Pacey talk in the kitchen, she confesses that she misses him and wants to give their relationship another shot. Pacey leans closer to her, their faces are inches apart, he looks into her eyes and says: "I've always loved you". He leans closer to her, she closes her eyes, anticipating the kiss, but then he whispers in her ear- "..but we both know how this is going to end and I'm not sure that I'd be able to survive you ripping my heart out... again." He kisses her on the forehead and says "Farewell, Joey".
Never having seen Dawson's Creek I'm very glad I stumbled across your videos, they're a lot of fun. I also want to say, I appreciate that you leave your subtitles on screen for half a second or so longer than most people who do these kinds of videos.

pacey’s the happiest whenever he’s with joey so why wouldn’t he deserve a happy ending with her, and vice versa? don’t you want pacey and joey to be happyyy one of joey’s main arcs on the show was feeling like she never could have a happy life / running away from the people she loves, and in the finale she’s decided to not run away from the person who loves her the most anymore. they both deserve the endgame :)
That ending sounds awful, no disrespect. And it would have been out of character for both of them. I feel like you may not have noticed that what happened at that prom influenced Joey's behaviour with Pacey in the latter seasons much more than was explicitly said. I mean, her friendship with her best friend was damaged beyond repair because of the relationship, she loved Pacey so deeply, and he publicly humiliated and hurt her at their literal senior prom because of his mental health struggles. In that locked in scene she says that she misses him, but that she needs to think about it. Honestly, she probably felt (and said as much) that being with *anyone* else was safer because of that history and how badly he hurt her, hence running back to Eddie and seeking comfort in Dawson. You know how they say the ones we love the most have the capacity to hurt us the most? So when she decides to stop running and being afraid, they end up together. They both make mistakes, they learn from them, they end up together. Everyone is happy.
EXACTLYYY i could not have said it better. you put this SO beautifully, this character analysis is everything! it’s what the writers so blatantly failed to convey and explore post promicide. if they’d managed to even shown a glimpse of this, it would’ve been golden. and both seasons 5 and 6 would’ve turned out so much better than it did, without all the amnesia and storyline erasing. you’re so real!
