    The real appeal of this song for me is the beautiful orchestration of strings and percussive sounds. Lyrics fuse fantasy and prophetic mid-sixties reality of the future. As of now (2024), not literally "everyone has gone to the moon," but some have, reminiscing the astronauts Sunday, July 20th, 1969, moon landing, 5 days before I was honorably discharged from military service. This tune by Jonathan King is highly nostalgic for me, bringing back some happy and warm memories.

    This song reminds me of driving with my Dad listening to the radio. My Mom was in hospital for a month and we went to see her every day. Both have passed but the memories remain. Beautiful song.

    For the first time in a really long time, I bonded with my dad.... we were reworking on the spare room at his house. While we were working on the room’s ceiling, I had this 60s radio on my phone playing, and this song came on..... he hasn’t heard this song in 50 years..... it made me cry a little bit, realising that good music has touched my heart, and helped us bond.....
    God bless the artist, and God bless my father.

    This song always remind's me of all the people I've loved (family & girlfriend's and plain old friend's) who've passed away. Can't hear it without getting little teary eyed. Thank you for sharing this.

      What a very touching comment, Randy, and thanks for sharing! I sure feel the same. 1965 feels like only yesterday when I hear this song and I was 12 years old and innocent at that time. I have lost family, friends and especially my dear mom since that time and it always hurts when I think about that.....but alas, such is life in this world. At least, we have songs like this to cheer us up and make us feel today the positive vibes from almost 50 years ago! What a natural high!!!

      maukus57 Thanks for sharing your interesting comments! Jonathan's song is unforgettable and check out his album "Or Then Again" which had this gem and other great songs. I have the original album with the VERY colorful cover. Too bad, though, that his personal life has been anything but memorable with his sexual abuse of young boys that I found out about years later. And he did some time for that but unfortunately, his victims have been forever scarred in many ways. And not sure what Jonathan is doing today but hopefully will never again abuse young boys.

    • @Buttcrack72
      @Buttcrack72 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check out his story on Wikipedia. I prefer to focus on the song. His personal life is for him to come to terms with. He's 69 and does some self producing and writing...much to do with his alleged offences...of which he still claim's he's innocent. Keep calm and get on with it.

    • @DougCeleste
      @DougCeleste 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** Randy, I did read the story on Wikipedia long ago and it was quite interesting and revealing. I also love to focus on this memorable song and the other great tunes that he recorded and that should have been released as singles. However, by all the negative TH-cam comments about his sexual abuses of young boys, it seems that all that has greatly tarnished his music and that is sad but understandable. I can see this from both sides. As far as Jonathan saying that he is innocent, that is understandable since very rarely, someone in this position will ever claim guilt. Like I said, he served his time for his acts and I hope that he never abuses anyone again.

    This is a classic song, because of it's studio-produced sound, ca. 1965. No way would you see this live in a local club, back then. I also believe it was ahead of its time; the orchestra music and echo vocals sound very much like the synth-driven Pet Shop Boys of the 80's Plus, it has a very nice melody--something people seem to disregard nowadays.

    • @nicknorthable
      @nicknorthable ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With all due respect for your comment ; it was not that unusual in the 60's to hear real strings in the background of recorded popular tunes. No fake sounds although the "brains" already had it in the works.

    Always loved this song, even though the singer was pretty much a well-acknowledged pedo. Yep. I'll be 70 this Dec. '24.....fully and easily remember watching this guy sing this on Shindig or Hullabaloo maybe on our little black-white TV set with the rabbit ears wi/the tin toil crimped around the top of them for better reception. On our Arizona ranch land north of Tucson that's all we had......and were glad to have it. We Boomers......wouldn't you agree we grew up in the most incredible musical time?? Those British Invasion years (musically) were pure magic.......so much great music and rock coming at us from every which way. It made me the man I am today......still in shape and rockin' hard at 70.....or almost 70...lol. God Bless us all. jbeinarizona

    I was walking my dog this morning just before sunrise when we stopped at a neighbor's house as they were having coffee and reading their morning paper. My little dog, now much stronger and healthier after her brush with a near fatal illness, veered off the sidewalk and entered their garage where they were sitting, greeting them with her wagging flag. She got a cookie from them for her politeness, given to her one piece at a time as all Pomeranians prefer. As we continued on into the brightening dawn this old song suddenly came to me. I had to post.

    One of the BEST "extended versions" I have ever heard on TH-cam and thanks for sharing! Nice audio quality job on one of my very favorite songs of the 1960's. It is too bad, though, that Jonathan's personal life has not been as nearly perfect as his memorable tune.

    Good version of this song. This is the sort of thing I have done with several songs in my collection.
    This is the version I have saved to my "Music - 1960s" playlist. The other version I found was the complete Top Of The Pops version but had that dreadful Jimmy Saville introducing it so I wasn't going to save that one!

    FUN FACT: Did you know that WABC radio in New York was playing this song just moments before the the big power blackout of 1965 hit. Just before the blackout, a brownout started causing the turntables at the station to slow down and DAN INGRAM, the DJ at the time, notice that this song was playing a little slower then normal speed. He made a comment about it being played in the key of "R". what ever that means.

    This is the song that New York Radio legend Dan Ingram was playing on WABC when it suddenly slowed down as the Great Northeast Blackout of 1965 was beginning. Dan noticed it but at the time didn't realize everyone was losing power that November 9. 1965.

    An amazing song from a talented pedophile. Though he still maintains his innocence, he served seven years in prison for practicing his ocarina solos on teenage boys. The song seems appropriate right now with Chang'e on the moon and the western narrative of "Only us in the space race" changed to reflect their new observer status. It could be "Every One Else Has Gone to the Moon". My how things change. Thanks for posting this great song.

    I need to make a correction on the title of this beautiful song on my previous comment. There is no "has" in the title, and the word everyone should be possessive [?] "everyone's" as shown on the TH-cam page for this video. (So much for English lyrics grammar and punctuation in a song title that seems out of place, that's so nostalgic for me, and in a pretty melody.)

      He was with Hedgehopper's Annonymous.."Good News Week". Check it out. Memories of that song: A young girl, first love. He broke up with me with me. I was the "good girl" ...the kind you married. He liked them wild. Sadness, sadness, a cold autumn wind blowing around my suede booted feet as I walked down Allen Street in the city, the leaves blowing, "Let's Hang On" was high on the charts by the Four Seasons. The great blackout of 1965 happened...Days later I see him with Arlene, his new "bad girl". Devastation. Then I run into him, we get back together. Success. He married me.Everyone's Gone to the Moon was a beautiful song to a beautiful time in America, when even sadness turned into something very good.
