- One hit wonder Jonathan King wrote and recorded "Everyone's Gone To The Moon" while a student at Cambridge University.
The song was released in Sept. 1965 and reached #17 on U.S Billboard charts late in 1965.
Still Great after all this time ........
Such a lovely number. Always makes me misty eyed.
I Found This song last night, when I Decided I Was "Always" Going To Be Alone.
Timeless terrific Tune one of the greatest
It is really amazing how the words of this song correspond so much to what is happening in today's world
The lyrics are weird and nonsensical
Gone crazy more like it
Still one of the greatest classic songs ever recorded . A haughtingly beautiful arrangement , timeless and yes , everything has gone to the moon .
Still one of my all-time favorite recordings . Much credit is due the beautiful orchestral arrangement in the back ground of this song . Timeless gold .
Just as beautiful now as when I first heard it in the 1960s.
2022...😌WOOOOOO 1965 God Bless those who were Born in this year❤️
Thank you Mr King he called it didn't he..God Bless him and his Family 🌛🌜
🚀👍
Absolutely one of the most beautiful songs I know of!
It has always had a haunting appeal, still beautiful......Sure miss that time of past loves and good friends.....Getting old is sure a hell of an education....Song makes me want to drink.....
You Said It Alright 👍 I Was 18 And In Hospital When This Came Out .Such Wonderful Memories Of A Decade Of That I Can Never Ever Forget (My Teenage Years)
Getting old isn't golden years at all, is it? Bronze maybe.
@@starmnsixty1209 I have not found a thing "golden" about turning 80....Thinking about taking up serious drinking...
@@skeeterblanton5226 🙂🙂
Well said.
Haunting, sad, symbolic, beautiful, prophetic, enigmatic, social commentary, witty, wistful etc etc... This is a song that means many things to so many people. When I first heard it, my first impression was that money is being misspent (going to the moon), people glutton (mouths full of chocolate), while others starve (arms that can only lift a spoon).
You might be right about that, the 60s were a time of protest and the moon missions were, of course, a military thing
This song brings back a lot of great memories of friends past and present.
String arrangement is killer !!
amazing song, i still remember when it came out and it evoked a new emotion, touched a certain new heartstring... the video collage mimics the song perfectly?
don't read into the words too too much, just a song after all, not biblical...gone to the moon was an expression at the time meaning you are all alone, or whee the heck is everybody at?
MY ALL TIME favorite song EVER! I never get tired of listening to it!!
Out of millions of songs to be heard, I bet this isn't really your all time favourite is it?
Great song....Great video!
wow ..my first time to hear this song...there is sadness but very beautiful....thank you you tube and GOD bless..
Thats why i played it good old days
As Dick Clark once said, hauntingly beautiful!
Yeah, and I miss Dick still, too.
@@starmnsixty1209 Word!
The kind of music we to bring back today.
Extremely weird but very beautiful.
Joe, your video's compliment the song better than anyone..
I remember this growing up. Obviously don't hear it now, sadly. We watched the movie last night, shadow of the moon. Excellent by the way, then the end. The minute the song started we both looked at each other. Absolutely amazing song. Think of the music decades ago. Someone definitely knew something was happening. This is now on my play list ❤️
SO happy to find this old favorite online! Am I the only one who LOL'd at the final image, Alice Kramden on the moon? Joe, this sad, cynical, beautiful song needed a little comic relief, and this is perfect. Thanks for posting!
Lovely song brings back good memories after the sad time we are going through at the moment
Very cool video love Alice he finally did send her to the Moon 🌙
When music was music...
great song great lyrics still love listening to it
Everytime I listen to this song I CRY. VERY GOOD 👍 SONG. This and change gonna come, by Sam Cook.
Ooh, the chill of loneliness.
Prophetic
Timeless
I always thought this was a great song! should have been a top 10 hit! top 20 is good & I agree with Dick Clark. "Hauntingly Beautiful!"
I've been looking for this forever. Always thought Enya sang it. Needed it this evening n I did find it. 😊😊
Enya??? in the sixties??? Big difference between Enya and Jonathan's voice and appearances you should have gone to Specsavers and Hidden hearing.
Brilliant then.....brilliant now....timeless,clever arrangement
Classic no doubt
Incredible graphics!!!
Fond memories from long ago, looks like everyone has gone to the moon or somewhere else, even wild animals seem to think we have abandoned the planet, they are moving in to fill the gaps! Don't you just love the "sound of silence" another 60s song.
Indeed a hauntingly beautiful song❤, with some sorta "prophetic" meaning to it!🤔😊
And a great, impressive video along with it, too!👍
Thank you for uploading this to YT!
Kind greetings from San Diego, CA🇺🇸!👋
I've been to quite a few similar sites; you do really good work. May your path always rise up to greet you!
Love this ❤️
Jonathan King was not a one hit wonder, he wrote many songs and used many pseudonym's like "The Weathermen", "Shag", "One Hundred Tons And A Feather", "Nemo", "Sakkarin", "Bubblerock", "53rd & a 3rd", "Sound 9418", "Father Apraham & The Smurfs" and "JK25"which all had hits in the British charts. He sang many songs under his own name, many of which were hits. He also wrote/produced songs for many other group like "Piglets", "Genesis", "Angelettes", "Hegehoppers Anonymous", "Bay City Rollers", "St. Celia" and "Brendon" amongst others .... so only a one hit wonder to somebody who doesn't know the history of Pop Music !!!
Well done; glad someone pointed that out. Lupe de Love by Shag (= JK) was a monster hit.
Like this song and video very much.
Pop surrealism. Jonathan King created his own genre.
Bowie was definitely influenced by this song
Haughting lyrics
i came here after watching in the shadow of moon......i found a really great song
Posting this comment as I witness the climax of the Super Blue Blood lunar eclipse. Stunning!!! Jan 31, 2018
So sad that this song still applies today.
Beautiful song. 😊😁😃😄🎶🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶
I've loved this song since I was a kid even though it was it was by Jonathan king who ironically i couldn't stand ,
Still a brilliant song
So beautiful born in 66
And this song was included in the movie " IN The Shadow Of the Moon "
This is a great 👍 theme song for the coronavirus. World is full of people, but at 6 feet apart. A lot in quarantine, and sick 🤒 pay is the money. Sort of like earning all the money 💰you can, and no way to use it. Streets full of houses 🏡, seemingly no one ☝️ home 🏡. Yes, I really think 🤔 we’ve gone to the moon 🌙 on this stupid coronavirus which doesn’t exist. This song I must have heard at my brother Dan’s house 🏡 in Fairbanks, Alaska. Just shortly after I graduated and came to Casa Grande, Arizona to live with my mom and stepfather, which was in 1989. This song can make me sad 😞 a little bit, since my parents in Arizona are dead 💀, but it is a great 👍 song anyway.
Yes, sort-of prophetic.
The moon 🌙 is a mirror , turn and look 👀 at the sun ☀️ stop thinking 💭 of only you ❤️ please 🧚🏿♀️
Great
I love it Joe !! Posting to the East Side thanks
Congrats! As measured in Audacity, this particular upload of the song has the most accurate tonality/frequency response of all the other uploads of this song on TH-cam. Compared with the official iTunes digital release, all this needs is a 2 dB low pass shelf filter at about 4 kHz.
Thanks.
reminds me of peace
YOU FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THIS DID BETTER IN ENGLAND - REACHED NO.4 IN AUGUST '65.
1965 and singing about Green cars, how advanced was Jonathan.
This song needs updating in 2020.
How about "Everyone's Gone Home and staying home"?
Or the video can be updated using videos of empty streets...
How can you update a song about human evolution?
50th anniversary tomorrow! One Small step for man,,,
He produced Genesis' first album.
July 20th., 1969
In case you're only listening...this is a VERY cynical song. But pretty.
All.right the song was good but the man.who.sang it?
Get me a ticket.
I always keep thinking the lyrics should be...
"Hearts full of letters
Painted green"
What does it mean, though---What was King trying to say? Most of his
Music is a bit...different!
After reading about it I tend to think it was based on satire and rhyming. Still beautiful. We can glean from it what we will I suppose.
@@durindas5531 I suppose.
Oh , come on friend . The message is clear , the world has gone to blazes in a hand basket !
@@davidluna8372 Can't deny THAT!!
Someone can explain me if "everyone's gone to the moon" has an especial meaning? I cant understand that phrase into the context...
It simply means everything has gone to blazes .
Or in the world we live in all gone looney.
It's Alice Cramden.
That is funny.
Seems the world went to pot long before now.
I remember!
What happened to this guy?
Actually, there are serious questions being asked in high places about his conviction, and his case has been referred to the Criminal Cases Review Commission, so he could be cleared. At the same time, one of the journalists who's testimony help convict him is under investigation. His case did not involve young children.
@@PBSmusic actually just stfu. just cause you thought this guy made "purdy music" does not mean theres some conspiracy by the establishment and "high places" trying to take down some down on his luck artist.
@@PBSmusic Nonsense. You obviously know this guy. Stop juggling words to suggest in a round-about way that he was innocent. He was convicted by a jury in a court of law of the crime of child sexual abuse, having abused five boys aged 14 and 15. Your suggestion that because these boys were not younger children somehow lessens the crime makes you sound like you empathize with him. Not a good way to present yourself online.
@@helenaville5939 Actually, I merely pointed out, in the interest of fairness, that questions have been asked about the validity of his conviction. I am not the one asking the questions, I was just reporting a fact in response to the main query 'What happened to this guy?'.
August 2023
Russia and India both have missions to the south pole of the Moon !
one hit wonder??? do your history! Still a fantastic song.
Agree with you. Chad and Jeremy were very popular. This is what happens when the kids try to play with the grown ups.
Everyone's gone to the prison.
Jimmy, Johnny and Rolf. And probably half the BBC.
*******
Too bad lyrics were covered by ad!
Beautiful tune, strange lyrics, horrible man singing it
Just try and remember , that a person is made up of allot more , than the worst thing he's ever done 😉 .
Terrible that King turned into a child predator.
this feel great i just heared this song in the end of The Shadow Of The Moon movie and i admire it and get to search it here i am saving it in my favorites .. and i am so glade to read your feelings and memories as a stranger from a far calture i am from Kuwait born in 1988!! ans i am touched !!
