Good morning, April! Wow! Talk about a home being "decked out!" This is a great addition to your deck. Not only can you store your outdoor tools, but you can have a nice, dark, quiet, out of the way place to nap without people bothering you!😂😂 Excellent project! Have a great week!
@@johnye4433 Cleaver design and it is a conversation starter, but most of us just put on a door as it is a heck of a lot cheaper than those rails. Not worth the expense for most of us.
Building a new deck with Brazilian decking and a TON of joist tape to help the joists last at least half as long as the decking. My wife wanted a drawer under to store gardening supplies and supplies for the hot tub. This is the perfect solution! I'll be keeping it open to allow for as much air circulation as possible as that's better for all the decking and joists. But I'm building the drawer so the bottom slopes to a couple drainage holes in the bottom of the drawer at the front. Then I'm coating the whole drawer in rubberized paint before mounting it. Anything in the drawer can get wet, I just don't want standing water. I also put up black aluminum window screen around the whole deck before putting on the deck siding. That helps to keep the critters out but still lets the air flow freely.
Love the idea of the 2x4 sandwich as a cheaper alternative to the slides. Feels like the drawer tracks are always the most challenging/expensive part so great to learn the simpler method!
I think what I envy the most about the projects you've shown lately - especially this series - is how much help you have. A second (or third!) pair of hands is so useful sometimes! Another great vid. It all looks great.
What a great idea for extra storage! You’re a master at adding storage to unused areas April. This reminds me of the toe kicks of your kitchen cabinets. Awesome Idea! Cool Video!
I am already using the space under my deck as storage but have been wondering for the longest time how to waterproof the section not covered by the porch. This gives me some great ideas! Thanks, April!
That's a great idea !!! I'm getting ready to refurbish our deck and I would love to add some drawers like this for horse tack and such. Always a pleasure to watch your videos ma'am, thank you for sharing your time and knowledge !!!
Great you've just made my deck cost go up! This is an amazing idea I'm thinking more so toy storage for all the kids toys!! Maybe even one for cushions for deck chairs!! The possibilities are endless
Wow. Amazing use of unistrut. I’m just working out after buying the little trolleys and two 3m lengths of unistrut, how to make a sliding drawer. But, I’m aiming for a kind of spice drawer you might say. So like a shelf unit that slides in and out like a drawer. Up until seeing this video I’d expected to have unistrut permanently affixed above my head to enable the drawer to come out. Can’t believe I hadn’t thought to do what you’ve done here !!! Ok it’ll mean doubling up on the unistrut, but for mine I only need to suspend the assembly from the top. So I’ll get away with two trolleys instead of four. Love u tubers !!! Thankyou
That’s a great idea and a very nice build! Your deck project is really nice and is generating a lot of interest! The drawers are very well built. Where did you get the rollers? I didn’t see them in your description. Thanks April and keep on building!
I just overlooked listing it, figuring people would google it, finding it in their local stores. Here's the Link Unistrut: bit.ly/44491wY Thanks for watching.
I like it! Good thinking, April. That is such a clever way to utilize spare, wasted space. The unistrut looks like the way to go for this. Thanks for mentioning that it is expensive but, it is a one-time expense. The wood-on-wood is a much less expensive way to go but, over time, it will be much more difficult to use if you put too much weight in that drawer. Looking forward to see what else you do in this series.
I just love it. It would be so cool to access to get the tools that you need without having to worry about getting wet from raining or getting burn from the sun. Thank you for showing us.

If they're there, they're likely already under the porch or house or near. Of course you watch where you put your hand but living in the country, you can't just get away from everything. Thanks for watching.
Hey April, great video & project. Do you have a parts list for the draw build/slide. If the plans are available with the parts list, I am happy to purchase. I am specifically looking for the Unistrut and trolley system you used. Thanks.
This is genius!!! I was trying to figure out a way to storage tools and other things....this is exactly what I need. I will definitely do this...not as long, maybe 5 feet like you suggested. Thank you for the great idea and demonstration! I think its great!!!!

Huh, I had a similar idea with a very different goal. So much space under half the deck. cut out a door and had a 2nd deck build underneath for some of the big seasonal stuff, lawn mower / snow thrower as examples. The next concern would be covering stuff better from the rain, I opted to just bag what a care about, but that corrugated roofing would be perfect
I loved this concept, but I think the corrugated roofing drain system needs careful consideration of the local climate. We had a corrugated drain system under a deck to create a dry workspace. Cross ventilation was encouraged by screwing the corrugated material to the joists through 2-inch long PVC pipe standoffs. An incline was built in to assure water ran freely to a gutter that drained into a downspout. In too short a time, the stained cedar deck and the joists were destroyed by rot. My location is in the Pacific NW but I lived in N Texas for 10 years and spent time in central TX. Both residences get the same annual rainfall. Relative humidity here averages a modest 50%. Trex over joist tape on new joists is holding up well, but I surely miss that dry workspace. Thanks for all your work, I learn a lot.

Look all this goes to make a comfortable critter nest and unsustainable long span drawer for heavier stuffs
