  • Located on Tiber Island, the Basilica of St. Bartholomew in Rome was dedicated by Pope John Paul II to the memory of the new martyrs of the 20th and 21st century, during the last Jubilee in 2000. More than a thousand years ago, Holy Roman Emperor Otto the Third commissioned the Basilica of Saint Bartholomew. Its purpose was to receive the remains of the apostle who was flayed alive for his faith. Today, it preserves more than 120 relics of 20th century Christian martyrs - the bloodiest century in Church history. EWTN Vatican Journalist Magdalena Wolinska Riedi has more.

I can hardly understand the woman with the thick accent.

@FrJohnBrownSJ: that is a Polish accent. The Jesuits at one time had a strong history in Poland. Why don’t you learn about it and the people there?

@FrJohnBrownSJ- because you said you could hardly understand her. Thick accents are common all over Europe.

@@med4kmd I couldn't understand her English. What does knowing Polish have to do with this?

@FrJohnBrownSJ-make an effort to understand. Appreciate her efforts to explain in her non-native language.
