I have a very similar setup with three 40 watt, 5000K, 4500 lumen, dual row 48" LED shop lamps over each of two shelves of a stainless steel; 12' x 48" x 72" tall unit. Seedlings have loved this setup for several years and I have had peppers, tomatoes, & 5 toot long cucumber vines all flowering before being set outside for hardening off.
I have the same shelves but different grow lights. I used space blankets (silver), $1 each, to drape the racks and when I need to get it I either climb between or throw the blanket over the top
If you want to make that setup, Wire Shelving at 18"x48" are better suited. This dimension is the best for seedling in my opinion. You can fit 4x standard 10x20 trays per shelves. So you can get 16x 10x20 trays per shelving. Also, your 48" shop light will be maximized and they will not exceed the shelves. The highest costs of this setup are the lights, you don't want to lose 1 foot of light that exceed the shelves. Personnaly, i don't use pulley, but only a small chain with a small hook to supsend my lights, the pulley take up too much space (It's like 5 inch per pulley so you will lost a shelve in the total high of the shelf. You don't have to lift the light often, pulley are not so usefull in my opinion, and it's better to have one more shelf full of seedling)
Hi Devin. Found your channel because I was looking for reviews on Sproutbox. I am in Ontario Canada and wanting to add to my raised bed setup. Are you also growing in Canada? I was wondering what zone you are in and if you happen to do any winter sowing?
Yes i'm in a Zone 4 in Alberta! I do winter sow with 4L milk jugs cut in half and placed over my seedlings. I'm going to try a few ways to winter sow right away!
Just got my grow light set up however wanted to know if I could put this on my covered porch and run the lights. My cats keep getting on the shelves and pots.
You do not need the mylar board behind your plants. Just get a grow tent. Especially for your two lights that require the 24 inch height. Grow tents are cheap. I have three. One for Aerogardens, a 2x2x4 that fits on a table, and a bigger one in the basement. Your shelves would fit inside and you'd maintain better temps and vastly improve the light reflection.
@@DevinTheGardener I grow cannabis and I have had some trouble with powdery mildew from not having constant air flow wasn't trying to be a know it all and thanks for the heads up for real good luck with your garden this year
Want to know when to start your seeds NO MATTER what zone you live in? → devinthegardener.etsy.com
Great setup the only thing i would suggest to you is to attach the shelves to the wall with some sort if anchor strap.
That’s a really smart idea! I’ll do that!
Really great video, exactly the info I was looking for! Nice work.

I stumbled upon you're video on seed starting, such a clever way to maximize light exposure for your seedlings with tin.
Thx! It’s my first year trying it out with Tin. Less money spent on the electrical bill!
Ill be using those adjustable pullies this year on my grow lights. Thanks for the tips!

Awesome info. Thank you so much. I’ll be trying the shelf setup
Love your setup!

I love your set up. I need to get those adjustable pulleys for my lights.
I think I linked to them in the description! Check it out!

The shelves would fit inside a grow tent? I never thought they would. I’ll look into that! Thanks
Love to get some of the vhs cases but I'm guessing that you have had them for years
I have a link to them in my description. There’s still available!

Maybe try just letting the fans run 24 hours a day
Would you say the fan 24 hours is best?
That philzon is not 900 watts more like 150w
