    Was just looking at replacements on Amazon and was frustrated that I'd have to get the new key cut. As soon as you started this video I had a duh moment. Just swap the key blade rather than cutting, DUH! Thanks a ton.

    WOW THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! My flip-out key from my 2016 Impala broke. I took it to the dealership and they cut the key according to the correct code but it didn't work in the ignition switch. They cut a new one and the second one didn't work. They determined that the ignition switch may have been changed before (I bought it with 16,000 miles in 2016) and was probably the reason the laser cut didn't work. They didn't charge me anything since they really didn't repair anything. So, in looking up videos on what I could do next, I stumbled upon your DIY video! And my wife has a spare remote but now I know why her blade key doesn't work - way back in 2016 they made us a copy but it didn't cut right from what I gather now. ANYWAY, I followed your detailed instructions, I was able to remove her blade from her FOB, replace it with the working blade and VOILÁ!, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Went out and tested it worked! AND no more twisting the blade with my finger, OUCH! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for posting this! Had the exact same issue with both of my 2013 Malibu key fobs. Luckily I found this video and did this same fix in just a couple minutes. I used the straight pick from a cheap, easy to find "Hook & Pick Set" as a punch and it worked perfectly. I found the same key fobs used by Chevy dealers online for $25 apiece. The two local dealers wanted $200 to cut & program new fobs, so I saved $150.

      I have a 2013 Malibu and this needs to be done but I don’t have a spare just one key only. Do you think it’s possible to turn on the car with my current key. Switch to the new one and then turn on the car with the key in the new fob? I wonder if that will work or I need to turn on the car sooner than that for it to program 🤔.

    You don't need to program the key if u take the chip out of the old key and put it in the new key. The chip will be a small hard piece of plastic probably with text written on it (bit thicker than a credit card and a bit bigger than 1cm by 0 .5cm). It will be inside the plastic part of the key, at the end near the key. You can test this by holding the old key plastic part near the ignition when u start the car with the new key. If u take away the old key plastic part the car wont start. Once u find the chip, u can test it by holding it near the ignition and starting the car with the new key.

    Thx for the vid. So I moved my blade to a new fob (to skip laser cutting). But in the other video I see you using multiple keys to program. Can I just insert the (old key/new fob) combo in and expect it to program the circuit board of the new fob?

    • @acidr8
      @acidr8 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Figured it out. Remove the blade, then do the programming routine but don't pin the blade to the new fob yet. It's easy to just swap fobs as you turn the car on/off with old fob, then new fob using the same blade. Once the new fob is programmed, then you can pin the old blade to the new fob. No laser cutting necessary. (If your old fob's buttons were just really worn out like mine)
      PS. For my GMC Terrain, turning the ignition was not necessary to program. Just initial key turn, 10 sec, then new fob key turn, 10 sec, then ignition.

Don’t start it, just turn to on position. Then turn off and switch to the new fob and turn on again. Done after all lights on dad go out ... only a few seconds. It takes seconds to pop the roll pin out. You save money by not having the key blade cut.

    • @bobbybarnes1652

      I've done it your way twice. It's a PITA. Also, the key I just bought "again" from Amazon (same seller, same exact everything, did a Buy Again) from the old order was DIFFERENT than the last two. They changed the gear/button that the key swings on enough so that it wouldn't work. Had I found this video before all that, it would have been a no-brainer. Far easier to pop the roll pin out (use a roll pin punch) and put the blade from the old key into the new fob and program it.
