I think this is genius! Other people might think this is silly, but not me! The 1 gallon thermos is a great idea & much cheaper! Good job👍. Love the motor set up.👊
You know, when I first watched this video I thought, how silly is this! But then I was looking for 12 pound barrels & and I saw they were so crazy overpriced! Came back to your video. I kept thinking this was not such a bad idea! Your thermos idea will hold a lot of rocks! I'm sure it is quite loud, but what the heck... I now think your idea is great! Good job! 👏👍
Haha! Omg I made mine almost exactly the same way and just now saw your video, awesome. Only thing I did different was use rubber hose for the tumbler grips and a BMX mag rim off an old mongoose I had for the big pulley. Other than that and the color of the cooler they're identical! Weird!
awesome.. i was thinking of something like this, but using a sewing machine motor.. but this is awesome! i know it was in 2012 when made..but still 2021 still awesome
Hey, great job. The larger pulley you have there, does that slow it down, versus a smaller pulley? The set up I have has a small pulley but it rotates way too fast. I'm wondering if a larger pulley would slow it down.
Hi Frank, Thanks for your note of appreciation. If you do use this design, be sure to use the plastic shopping bag before you tighten the lid for the extra needed leakage seal. good luck, Gary
+moncorp1 I have to agree. it really needs a shroud if you have kids around. I've seen some horrible things in my time and no one wants to imagine a kid being scalped or losing a finger.
Cool. I guess if I scarify one of my not needed bikes, I can have a sophisticated variable gear system and speed control with a chain system DIY rock tumbler, following your example.
@StayStrapped2A not that...he's wondering if he glued/ attached something like plastic or metal inside the thermos to flip, give more action to the rocks for more tumbling movement.
gary brunetti It depends. Good thinking. Probably not. Another cheap way I know of just involves using the lake or ocean or a river/stream. Besides that, it would be best to buy one or use a steam engine.

I like the caster wheels for the guides idea. So simple I wouldn't have thought of them. I even have some waiting to be used. Thanks for the idea.
Nice job. Simple, cheap, thanks for showing us.
Like the tumbling buckets ! Never thought of using the water jug. Great Design Thanks for Sharing !! Frank Foster
Great simple design. This is something I could get most parts from my junk pile! I see these coolers at yard sales all the time.
Great project i see in my near future! Thanks for the video!!
Fantastic project!
Love it. A real do-it-yourself project.
Wonderful, great ingenuity......very nice sir ;-)
Good sir really innovative

Love this tumbler! Do you make your own slurry too?
Well made and great design too, I'm going to do something very similar to stonewash knife blades, thanks
Very clever!

This is great
Gary, think those are 1" pillow bearings? If so, where do you get the 1" rods? How did you attach the pulley to one of the rods?

Rig Rat Medic I can answer this for you. The larger wheel will slow down the rpm on the tumbler shaft.

The test is always over time. How has it held up? Thanks for sharing, wonderful idea and work.
It held up beautifully and works great with perfect speed
Great to hear, thanks for the reply. Will try my luck.
Gary:
Great job, not safe for kids , but Thanks for the cooler idea.
God bless
+Dennis Adams ~ perfectly fine for kids if they have the proper parental guidance and are not morons.

nice!!
Did you use or add anything in that cooler to make the rocks flip? Thinking of making something like this.
Yes he attached a motor to it to make it rotate. That causes the rocks to .... tumble
@StayStrapped2A not that...he's wondering if he glued/ attached something like plastic or metal inside the thermos to flip, give more action to the rocks for more tumbling movement.
you can buy pvc pip and cap and a end an cap that screws on with that mother you can run like 6 tumblers on it
Too educational!
arnold lardizabal Okay then.. He's just telling the specifics for the engine basically.
Dose it work
Benny Guitron of course it works
Darn, here I just tossed my water jug!
lol walmart brand teflon bag lolol
why not use a 50 dollar used top loading washer and disable the timer?
why not you try it and tell me
Savage
You can use a DC motor from a printer with a nine volt and that works too. Lol.
Dylan Dunn but will it turn 10 lbs of rocks?
