    Thank you! I’m waiting to see my doctor, my protein in the blood is high. I’m losing muscle for months and didn’t know it could be my kidneys. I’m new to this medical issue and in a panic until I see my doctor next week. Thanks again 🙏

She is an excellent example of how important it is for CKD patients to work with a renal dietitian. Thank you. For me this has become my purpose in life. By being so public about my personal illness, it helps me to stick to my diet and never give up because I have everyone out there watching (and I don't like to lose when I don't have to). I am so thankful for everyone who shares tips, their experiences, and recommendations. Knowledge is the key to living an amazing and happy life with CKD and people like Jen (and Dr. Butt, Dr. Krocker, Jess at The Kidney RD, and others) are so kind to share that knowledge with us.

    I am a diabetic, taking NO medication for it, just have it in control with the right food. My HbA1: 5,3, (this is considered a pre-diabetic )now I am since 2 yrs. on a low carb diet and lost 16 kilos in one year .But to my bad surprise I recently got my lab results,and the kidney parameters are not good anymore. Is it possible, that I eat too much protein?

    A little confused here. I always thought Type II Diabetes was the evil twin of kidney disease. That most people with kidney disease suffered from diabetes too. From this video I am hearing that this is not necessary the case. My husband had his labs done recently and he is Type II diabetic and his GFR (?) has gone from 13 up to 16 and now down to 11, all within the last six months! He is very depressed because he is possibly looking at going on dialysis sooner rather than later now. I can't get him to try and reverse things and he seems to have accepted his fate!!

      I believe a large part of the lack of good kidney care comes from communication....or the lack of. Most doctors I've ran into speak over our heads, are too general, confuse us, and are just not relatable. It's clear I am very nerdy and love to learn - but even my first doctors completely confused me and had me leaving the hospital with no plan or even remote idea of what to do. Once I put together a health care team with better communication skills - things started to click into place and my labs started to improve.
      Nephrologist like Dr. Butt (he will be here next Wednesday for another LIVE show) are great at explaining things and HELPING patients put together a strategy that not only focuses on their health, but also their quality of life. Renal Dietitians do the same thing - take the complex and make it simple. I believe we will see a shift towards this approach and the world has gotten much smaller and it's easy to see what patients like and dislike about health care.

    • @paullasmith4975
      @paullasmith4975 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DADVICETV You're just you. I don't know what 'nerdy' is. I was told (a while ago) "You're spilling proteins". On my way home, I stopped at GNC and bought a large plastic drum of muscle man protein powder so as to replenish the protein I was losing. I added the powder to my regime month after month and just picked eenie meenie miney moe from the hundreds of choices. Yeah, total lack of communication. From here we go forward. God Bless.

    I have a question when somebody is in stage 4 kidney chronic disease. What is the best way to encourage more urination. The reason I ask is because my mother ate some bread with high sodium in it. And now she has some swelling in her left foot and she isn’t urinating as much as before. I think it’s due to the high sodium content in the bread that she ate. Is there any natural ways to increase the urinating and what recommendations do you have to flush the excess sodium from the bread that she ate?

      My doctor/herbalist instructed me to drink only Wilkins with a pinch of rock salt but you have to drink 30 minutes to 1 hour before every meals 1/2 glass. During my meal (eggs, watermelon, sayote and opo) you can drink Only as your liquid a pandan tea. After 2 hours you can drink again Wilkins 1/2 glass with a pinch of rock salt. I’ve been doing it for 2 weeks already and now urinating at least seven times a day. The objective on my doctor is to eliminate all my pharmaceutical drugs as this is the reason that is damaging my kidneys. Because of my diet, my glucose is controlled usually from 105 to 110 and my blood pressure is 115 to 120. I can now walk for at least 20 minutes and do my usual exercise. Sometimes you really have to grabe for food but this is much better than further damaging your kidneys. I hope I can help. Thank you.

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tomatoes are a high potassium food - so you need to watch HOW MUCH you eat. Our bodies need a certain amount of potassium each day, but with kidney issues we also have to watch out not to get TOO MUCH. Think of it like having a daily Potassium Allowance with a minimum you need to use and a maximum to not exceed. A renal dietitian can help you determine your daily allowance for potassium along with other key nutrients. It then makes you renal diet so much easier and more enjoyable. Instead of avoiding specific foods, you will then be eating LESS of specific foods.

      While my lowest eGFR was 8, I never went on dialysis or got a transplant. I worked with my doctors and multiple renal dietitian to focus on diet and lifestyle changes to improve my health. In the beginning I was getting labs daily as I worked to completely change my life with the goal of avoiding the need for dialysis.
