    A Great Presentation, I like to use some butter or vegetable oil for heat transfer and to prevent burning. I will be doing this on Memorial day with friends in Montana

      Welcome to my kitchen, William! Adding some butter to your packets is a great idea and sounds yummy! I’ll have to remember to try that next time I make them. This is a great choice for you and your friends for Memorial Day! Maybe even consider letting your friends choose from a variety of veggies/meats to personalize their meals. Just write their names on with a bold Sharpie to keep them all straight before you put them on to cook. I LOVE that you’re watching us in Montana! Enjoy your holiday with friends!! - Deb

      Welcome to my kitchen, Donna! I’m delighted to meet you. The ground beef version is my favorite, too! My family LOVES that they can customize theirs with exactly what they want in their dinner. Even now with them all grown and on their own, Hobo Dinners are still a treat if that’s what’s on the menu when the family comes for dinner and they still get excited about customizing their meal. I hope you and yours will enjoy these just as much! 😊 - Deb

    If you microwaved your potatoes first, could you bake for less than an hour?

    • @DebsKitchen
      @DebsKitchen  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi David. I haven’t tried that but it seems like a great idea! You will definitely need to pre-cook your carrots and onions so they are cooked through. If you add zucchini and mushrooms, they’re so soft, they really don’t need a full hour. If you at least partially “bake” your potatoes first in the microwave, you should be able to take your cook time down to about 35-45 min, just to make sure your meat is done. I’d love it if you’d give it a try and report back. Thanks for the idea! - Deb

    As a hobo myself, I take offence at your fetishization of of my socio-economic situation, whilst flaunting your kitchen in my kitchenless face. Also, we don't all just sit around over barrel fires, stewing food in aluminum wrappers that we dug out of the trashcan. We eat pizzas and burgers with as much dignity as EVERYONE else.

      Oh, for goodness' sake. A woke hobo? I never would have believed it. Foil packet dinners have been called hobo dinners since probably before you were born. Everyone from the Boy Scouts to Freddie the Freeloader have used that term in a fun and non-demeaning way.

      Welcome to my kitchen, R of R! This is definitely yum and a wonderful comfort food dinner on a cold winter evening. How do I make it so it is not so liquidy though?

    • @DebsKitchen
      @DebsKitchen  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My thought would be that the liquid is likely coming from your meat ( and maybe a little from your veggies as they cook down). You can reduce the liquid by using a leaner ground beef, but the more lean it is, the more tenderness you’ll sacrifice. Also, precooking your firmer veggies (carrots, onions, potatoes) will keep them from sweating and would reduce your cook time in the oven (or campfire/BBQ grill) which could also help if you’re using a leaner beef in terms of not allowing it to dry out. Your softer veggies like mushrooms and zucchini only need a short cook time, so you can add those raw. I hope this helps! - Deb

      @@DebsKitchenIs there anything I can add to the foil pack that would absorb the extra liquid and make it a tasty sauce?

    • @DebsKitchen
      @DebsKitchen  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @tastybrownie7448 Are you wanting something thicker like a gravy? If so, I don’t know how I’d do that in the packet, but I guess you could poke a hole in each of the packets and drain them into a sauce pan and try making a gravy that way. I’ve never tried doing that so I can’t say how successful that would be, but it might be worth a try if you don’t know what to do with the juice anyway. If you try it and you aren’t satisfied with the flavor or amount of gravy you’re able to make this way, you could always add some beef base and water to add a nice rich beefy flavor and make as much as you like. Let me know if you try it. I’d love to know how it turns out! 😊 - Deb

      @@DebsKitchenCan I just add some shredded cheese to the bottom of the foil pack at the beginning to absorb the liquid?

    • @DebsKitchen
      @DebsKitchen  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @tastybrownie7448 In my opinion, that would not soak up the juice…in fact fat would come out of the cheese and make more liquid. 😞

    It is a lot easier, quicker and neater if you put all the food on half the tinfoil then pull the other half over the top so the two halves meet one one side. you then roll the edges as you would if it were on top. To open you simply slit the packet down the middle and you have a easy neat serving bowl.
