You need a differential if you want to keep the tracks on. Trying to corner with that great a difference in 'wheel speed' is sure to make problems. When driving M113s and M114 A1E1s, we used separate "Johnson Bars" to control the speed of each track. You might also consider using a large flange both inside and outside of the wheel assemblies.
temu has a better track that has 2 more rollers on the bottom that helps support the actual track. yours will likely split if you drive it on the pavement . cool build guys. Sick lathe dont hate on it. thank your father for me!
Bummer I couldn’t find that one, I do question how long these will last. Definitely won’t be using them on anything but snow. The lathe is just old and rarely used. The clutch slips and the y axis was really struggling. Got it done though!
you need to put counter acting springs on the skis so they can spring down and up for bumps and moguls. But so they return to level. Maybe using the holes in the rotors.
Just found your channel today and I love the fact that you guys build some of the same kinds of stuff that my son and I build. Kudus to you and I subscribed. Thanks for the cool content.
Before I finish watching it, I had stopped it at around 11 minutes. The circumference of the tracks is definitely bigger, so therefore it would have more top end less low end.
Thats a good speed 70! My 670cc go kart geared right did 70 and I'm sure thats a 125cc or something, so she flies! Like he said borderline scary im sure haha Love to see go kart content in December haha Glad I stummbled upon ya guys!
we have since cut a hole in the seat and can get a socket and drill on the flywheel and start it in neutral. at least in the shop... testing in snow soon!
Why use a lathe to change the axle? Take the grinder and cut lengthwise on the fitted piece. Then itself will adjust to fill the void between axles when you put in the slightly bigger splined axle.
@@RadFactoryGav My Grandad always told me not to frown on simple solutions, when the results are equal. Of course, a lathe gives superb precision, no doubt about that. A youtuber made a complicated moving arm on a waving Santa a few years back, and I asked why so complicated? (phneumatic). He challenged me to a better solution, and in 15min i made a similar arm of two small planks, a wire and an old powerdrill. He didn´t answer. Strange..
That thing is great! BOTH, honestly... The bike just needs the tuning worked out or something. For the kart, though... I can't help but think you need to add side plates to the tracks. One that stop about halfway down the bottom wheels, so that they can't touch the ground on hard packed snow, but which encompass all the way up to the top wheel. (same triangle, but with less "dangle" on the bottom heh) Sure, having the track rub will potentially wear it down, BUT it's only going to rub when it's starting to come off... The rest of the time it will have like a half inch of gap (or less?). *VERSION 2:* _spiked wheels_ in the back, with ice skates up front ⛸️ (but just the blades lol) That's right... an *_ICE KART!_* 😏
Oh, HAH... I paused a few seconds from the end where you said you tightened them up and the tracks have stayed on. So maybe the plates aren't needed. Though it MIGHT still prevent it from throwing the track too far. If it happens in a low-light scenario, being unable to find the thrown track would sure suck!
You need to either buy or fabricate a racing kart starter. Pretty sure it's just an automotive starter motor, 12v car battery, and a geared shaft to engage with the starter bundled into a 1" impact body form.
The 650 with tracks looked really awesome! a shame the engine decided to act up, was looking forward to seeing it at full power! The Kart is obviously awesome, impressive fabrication quickly to get it working as well as it did!
i think the problem is that you are overspeeding the tracks...centrifugal force is pulling out and causing the track to come off...the tracks are trying to become round...maybe put a jackshaft reduction assembly in to cut the speed in half or a third...make it more tractorish
Drilling all the way through the axle weakened it considerably, might have considered dimpling the inner axle to lock it in but maybe you considered tht idk
Check the spark plug. Cold plus altitude i would guess its running a bit rich. Try lowering the needle one clip and like a 4 size smaller main jet and lean the airscrew like a quarter and see what happends. If it gets worse. Go the other way.
Are u on crack? It has an expansion chamber that creates the correct pressure wave according to porting. Two stroke engines don't use "back pressure" for goodness sakes. Lean out on full speed corners in a go-kart. Seems counter intuitive, but there is no differential. With both rear tires covering different distances, they are fighting each other as to what speed they are supposed to be going. Sometimes the axle loses that fight. With the inside tire lifted, you attain the highest corner speed possible and it's the kindest on your axle. I promise you won't flip.

about starting... a piece of wood underneath and a adapter for a cordless drill should work . something you press on against one of the wheels.

There's not enough back pressure on your engine.
How do we fix that? it starts first kick with the tires. I figured the high altitude in the mountains might be messing with it
We definitely need to learn more about these motors for sure
