Ive just recently started fly fishing , been having a lot of luck with a top hat with a white bit of foam on the top . Was using black adlers at the start and caught 1 maybe 2 fish each time , since using that top hat ive been catching 4+ every time , love the videos bro
@@alandoyle3426 attatch one end of the elastic band to vest (usually via the d ring). Pull the other side to create tension. Attach the fly via the barb and flick the elastic as if it were a guitar string. The tension and movement causes the fly to be shook of all the existing moisture that’s on there.
Thanks Rhys, this is actually what I was looking for as it's my first season fly fishing in the west of Ireland, I'll definitely be picking those recommendations up cheers ☘️🎣
I'm giving it a go at my local water tomorrow. With hot temperatures and a heavy sun forecasted, it's not going to be easy. I'll give these a try and you never know.
@@RhysFishes this will help me out a lot fishing burnhouse because it can be a hard water to fish in the summer and in the hot sun like you saw when you were there but another great video
always on the hunt for your content ryse. its absolute class man but I was wondering if you could do a tutorial and show us how you actually make your casts please I am struggling with my casts being straight and unsure on making the distances between droppers and point
Always enjoy your films Rhys.Would appreciate some info on the tippet match to the outfit.I always use the strongest for diameter I can especially with Fluorocarbon.
Thanks shotaway, I’ve also watched a few of yours and enjoy them. Leader wise, I rarely deviate from Celtic blob company fluorocarbon these days. Sometimes Rio also but it’s expensive. Cbc 5.5 or 4.4 for dries. 6.6 for buzzers or nymphs
Great video. Very informative. Shows I am on the right track but must go smaller. All my Yellow Owls are 12/14. I find that if I tie smaller they often lie on their side. Which hook do you use?
That sounds like a combination of 2 things. A hook that holds a light wire paired with an overdressed fly. I tend to favour wet fly hooks for my dry fly fishing (medium wire) for that exact reason. A medium wire hook will help the fly sit in the film as oppose to on it. Hannak 230 bl is a solid choice.
Top video! Thanks for doing that. Tomorrow we will have our last competition day. Today they will bring new fish (300 kg). The old ones are quite deep for the moment. I supppose the new fish will also go lower with these temperatures? Tommorow 25°C and no wind at all. What would be your approach? The lake is at some points 6 to 10 meter deep. DI5 with a snake? or??? Thanks in advance for your advice. Stijn from Belgium (You already adviced me and it worked :)).
Hi Rhys, great video. Do you tend to fish still waters and reservoirs mostly? My local clubs in South Somerset have limited permission on rivers and it's very unpredictable. Thanks
Thanks again for all the brilliant advice. You don’t have to do it and it’s really appreciated. Every time we all learn some brilliant little tippets.
Thanks for the kind feedback david

Best tip for drying dry fly kitchen roll works brilliant
It does indeed and works out far cheaper than an amadou patch. Don’t forget about an elastic band whilst your there
Sily question what do you mean about elastic band mate

Fish the bottom so.
Low and slow (unless you see fish rising)
Another great video from you and always informative 👍
Thanks Sean!
Another great video Rhys 🎣

Thank you, the sleep deprivation has begun 😂
Another brilliant vid, love the channel, so much useful info 👌🙂👍
Thanks for the kind feedback fishdisco
The red head DB is an amazing fly always on my line this time of year. I do get similar success with a GRDB as well, awesome video as usual Rhys!
Thank you 😃

So as in how to make a rig as oppose to ‘how to cast’?
@@RhysFishes ye ryse like to a video of you making your casts and showing exactly a length to help us new guys to set up sir 🙏
Hi Rhys, what is the thread you are using for the red head diawl bach please, another great video, 60 years fly fishing, and I am still learning!!

Thank you. I do have river videos on the channel also 😀
Flys are not the problem!
Water temperature is the killer🤯
Worth trying carp or bass at this time of year. Some excellent sport to be had the these fish aren’t as affected by water tempratures
Thats one handsome guy you have in the video ;-)
Orvis’ next top model
Summer trout fishing doesn’t exist down here because they close the lakes when it gets warmer
What about the big resi’s?
