2 olive apps(green machine ) as we call them ,cortland blue , short fast pulls 💥💥💥 pulled me out the shit on a number of occasions ,the blues love them also
Another top video Rhys, are you going to do more videos on picking floating, sinking lines etc. the last vid on intermediate was super helpful, a line I never knew I needed.
Hi Rhys. Many thanks for this informative video which illustrates follow the next outing using the apps worm. I wanted to ask your advice regarding floating fly lines. I’m changing my floater after 7yrs use & heard you mention the Cartland. I’m looking at the 7wt peach 444, is this a line that you use or do you have any feedback on it. Many thanks & tight lines. Derick.
Great lure I used them at chatton trout lakes in Northumberland I had 16 trout lost as many the olive one seemed to work better on a floating line a cross the wind pulling back fast
Hi Rhys, great informative video as always. I used this advice when I was out fishing today and I did catch, when nothing else seemed to be working. I was at a spring fed fishery in the very north of England, the air temperature was around 8-9 degrees c, so not wintery conditions. I used a mixture of colours and leg lengths but only used one at a time, as I was getting chance after chance without the need for a second. Interestingly, I was seeing the bow wave following the worm, then a ripple as if the fish missed. I made sure to keep the retrieve constant, a standard pull every second (not figure of eight or roly poly.) but I'm not exaggerating when I say, this 'phantom take' happened at least 20 times, without so much as a slight knock. What can I do next time to improve my take rate? Thank you.
Rhys I tie a pink worm with legs made from a pink and orange barred rubber which I think is a silli legs material, or maybe something I got for pike flies. Fluo pink body, works well pulled quickly in the top couple of feet, or sink and draw. Not so well under a bung for this one where I find black works well.
As with any form of lure fishing, a sudden burst of speed will often induce a strike from a following fish. As stated, don't slow down or stop. For pike that don't take using this technique, I would let the lure drop below the fish, and lift it back up. This can induce savage takes, in inches of water against the bank, and I don't see why it wouldn't work for trout.
Hahaha. Watched this last weekend and fished them on four outings on our syndicated loch this week 6 -5 -10 -3. So average of 6 per outing. Maybe not record breaking until you see the amount of 0s in the catch record. That's with a red one, waiting for more flexifloss to show up.
That boy would be a take on freelining a lobworm as I did as a boy 40 years ago still the best way to catch trout. But rules and regs kill the fun out of fishing these days. Valleys Wales ta
Great video. One thing that confuses me though is how a 12 foot leader with the worm would fish. Surely off a very slow retrieve it would still sink considerably? Or is this fly really that light (unlike a squirmy?)
Apps are relatively light but like anything, it does depend on what hook you use, the length of the worm itself amongst other things. An inch and a half either side on a size 10 hook is my preference and that's based largely on the original (don't change what's not broken)
Rhys how can I sneak a couple of fish during the winter on my club lake and they don’t stock from September till March but we can still fish it. Quite a deep lake 25acres any good ideas fella
I like how all you knew guys like using a float. That's not fly fishing ,I could use a spinning rod and do the same thing and two Flys should be illegal you call those Flys
Clear advice and really helpful explanations. Another confidence builder.

Great video Rhys, l use the red apps "blood worm" a lot especially this time of year it is probably the most successful way I have of catching trout.
Rhys, you are a beast
Brilliant Rhys great info on fishing the Apps 🤙
Videos are excellent Rhys, please keep them coming!

nice mate. Sounds like a succesful pattern!
I caught my 1st apps worm caught trout 3 weeks ago on a sink tip and a fast strip retrieve. It was the beaded Amber version and it mullered it.

I like it. Im actually tying few bloodworms now. Thanks for all info :) 🙏☘
Fantastic Rhys love that 👍👍👍
Great video. If you saying about leader is straight one dia fluorocarbon or taper 7lb? Cheers
straight through
Great video I did a role pole as fast as I could and got the most fish in my local fishery to day
Happy days
Nice wee video👍
I recently got back into fly fishing after 20 odd year gap and really find your videos and tutorials helpful thank you 👍
Great video as always when will u do another dad vs son vid i loved that one
Great stuff Rhys!
Going to try that today 👍
Is there any particular colour you would recommend for Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter?
3 colours mentioned are all you need
@@RhysFishes Thanks Rhys. Hope the comp went well.
Great video and tactics are as usual helpful.
Hi , on the floating line what type and length of leader do you use a tapered leader or a single diameter line ?
Single diameter, length depends on wind direction and what you're comfortable with 👍

@@RhysFishes thanks man
What is worm material and diameter?
Any flexi floss will do, straighter the better
Rhys how can I sneak a couple of fish during the winter on my club lake and they don’t stock from September till March but we can still fish it. Quite a deep lake 25acres any good ideas fella
Worms will work even on overwintered fish. Its just a case of finding the depth. Alternatively look at the winter natural approach video 👍
Hi mate, do the apps or squirmy work well in warmer months also ?
They do but other methods will outfish them 👍
Rhys what beads do you use for the yellow one and where do you get them, thanks.
EBay there were rob 👍
Bery interesting video
Thanks!
Who won the bungs from the other video??
Would u be confident at least one of these methods would take fish at some point? How long would u try each method for?
In the colder months they are devastingly effective in the right hands. Try for 20 minutes and then change method or move spot
where do get the worms from
Fario fly
