  • You asked for it, so I simply had to learn how to make one! This epic beaded necklace was all the rage in 1998 I expect, and I have had my original one for nearly that long. I found it forgotten in an old little box, was excited to wear it, and now I have another one that's brand new and slightly more green!

    Czech glass fire polished beads: 200 size 3mm, 300 size 4mm, 80 size 5mm, 75 size 6mm, 6+ size 8mm, I used 43 teardrops (5x7))
Size 11 seed beads, size 10 beading needles, nylon beading thread

But wait there's more! A PO BOX finally wahoo!
First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

Wonderful necklace! In Russia we call it "Mylene Farmer necklace", because it became popular after her concert, but Mylene isn't the first lady to wear it. This necklace was inspired with Art Nouveau, using motifs imitating spiders' bodies. And a spider symbolizes depression.

You are an elegant, beautiful woman. Your goth outfits are stunning works of art I would give my eye teeth to have as my own. Your beaded insects are incredible.

Better than fireline imo, especially for jewellery, because it’s more flexible and drapey. Your necklace is really pretty Bianca, and SO much work!!! Worth it tho, cos she’s a stunner

This is absolutely stunning!! The level of sparkle and detail is amazing. With the Picasso finish you mentioned, if you made a necklace with red Picasso finish beads, would the finish make the necklace look bloodstained? Because if so, that would really fit a lot of your vampire heiress/suspicious murder mystery guest vibes with several of the outfits and costumes you've made, and that could be very fun.

I've been working on a beading project that I at least in part blame you for. I'm making a sheer haori (Japanese coat) with a beaded spiderweb over one shoulder. I've been (not) working on it for a few months, and only starting really picking up steam after getting a better frame to stretch my fabric in. It's finally starting to look cool, but the number of times I've had to re-do a strand because I tacked it to the fabric wrong and accidentally cut the main thread instead of the tacking thread...Oh how I dread the sound of falling beads now.

    • @TheClosetHistorian
      @TheClosetHistorian  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

This haori sounds super gorgeous! I own four vintage ones myself, one men's in the classic black silk, two jacquard women's haori, and a gorgeous black and bright yellow leaf print one with red shibori lining. I love Kimono in general and were money no object would totally collect and display them 😅✨

😅 I've heard the sound of falling beads. I was completing a five strand necklace a lady wanted done all in seed beads. As I was finishing off the threads my hand slipped and I literally cut through the end of all 5 strands. It sounded like rain. 😅 The shreaking could be heard in town. That was an all nighter since I had to redo the entire necklace for delivery the next day. Lesson learned.

Love the necklace your wearing, I thought like many you had made it😹😹, good for you on taking the plunge into beading it can be so much fun, I do manly seed bead designs with focal points. For a very long time. I have beads in my stash that are over 40 years old🙀, I think it’s time I revisited my stash which has grown over the years.😹😹
A trick to help with complex designs is to not lay out your beads in piles but to layout them out in set groups before you stitch them in to the order that you want them. Over time your mind will develop muscle memory of your design regardless of what is used and you can switch back to the set piles.
Size 5 is not a common size, I don’t think I have any 5mm in that shaped bead in my very extensive collection of beads.
    11/0 2mm 3mm 4mm 6mm 8mm 10mm 12mm and so on are the most common which goes up by 2mm and not 1mm.
Try Potomac Beads as they deal with the factories with their own designed beads. I use to buy from them all the time, but they don’t ship to Australia anymore 😼😼
I don’t knot my threads but rather I weave back through at least 3-4 times around the whole piece to ensure they are locked in. The fishing line that I have been using for the past 8 years has not had this issue at all. It’s Berkeley Fireline which comes in many thread weights. As I use 15/0’s and smaller so I use a size 13 needle.
The biggest problem I have found is that you do need more than one supplier of beads if you are chasing a set colour groups as well as shapes. Because of this I deal with 2 companies in the US it use to be 3 but as I said Potomac Beads has dropped shipping to Australia now, and I have 3 companies in Australia, 2 in the UK and one in Yugoslavia.
The uranium beads are safe😹😹😹 they are so low it’s like walking out in the sunshine must admit they doo look nice glowing under UV lights 😹😹
For many of my beading projects that I have designed, I have been collecting the right beads slowly as they pop up on the market.
I think it was great that you dived in and showed as you learned, this is a great way to encourage those who are sitting on the fence that it’s not that hard once you jump in.❤️❤️❤️❤️

I am so glad that the American retailer agreed that August is the prep month for the fall prep of September. I was on a bee-line for some goods, and I encountered a stray porcelain pumpkin, which promptly came home with me. I've had enough summer for one year,
Also, I make a lot of very long chains, and I dread doing them on string. Having to knot them every couple of beads so that the necklace doesn't stretch under it's own weight is a pain. Normally, I work by making beaded chains, but there are a few projects that are going to need to be strung, and I live in fear of string breaks.
I bought some fire-line, and the special clips for it, but I still have not worked up the courage ( nor the spoons) to begin that task.
Beautiful necklace. I can see how you'd get confused -- WOW

This is a beautiful piece! It looks to be an excellent addition to the hoard, and something to do while there are no good reasons to leave the house. (The older I get, the fewer reasons qualify as "good".) The folks that don't understand the cost of labor are the ones that complain that they should get a discount. This is a great example of the cost of crafting is the time and patience to do it well.

Hi Bianca, I enjoyed watching and hearing you craft this outstanding necklace. When you mentioned that it was close to reading knitting patterns, that made a connection for me. It looks lovely on you.🖤🧡

Thank you Jayne! Reading the patterns is too difficult for me, I just study the necklaces in the end and hope for the best 😂

Absolutely fabulous! I see what you mean about sellers only carrying a few sizes. I checked Lima Beads where I have shopped online in the past and they have lots of Czech beads but not in all the sizes of each colour. Very frustrating.

This makes me miss our local bead store so badly. My grandmother single handedly kept them open a while I think 😂😂😂.
I love That we all seemingly have the same mat though lol.
