Matriarch Arpeggiator in the Various Paraphony Modes

  • Here we have a short demonstration of how the Matriarch arpeggiator interacts with the various paraphony modes.
A simple 2 note arpeggiation is started - random pattern with a 2 octave range. Each oscillator is set to a different waveform, and is tuned to either the 8' or 4' octave.
The voice mode is set to 4 note paraphony. Oscillator 1 starts things off. Pretty boring, huh. The delay (longest time setting) is gradually brought in for some animation. Then each oscillator is added, and things start getting interesting. Taking out and adding different combinations of oscillators gives us different rhythms. Then, oscillators are switched to different octaves.
At 1:45, the oscillators are switched to 2 note paraphony. Notice that the sequence becomes a bit more focused.
At 1:56, the oscillators are switched to monophonic mode, for your regular ol' mono synth-through-a-delay sound. This sound is more powerful, but to me, not as animated as it is in 4 note mode.
    What do you think?

Hi, Yes it is a bit normal that it feels more animated in 4 note paraphonic due to the sequence being split between the 4 osc. Any subtle differences between the oscs will show in the sequence but that's quite the beauty of it! Just got mine a week or so ago and it such an amazing synth/sciencelab. I'm so amazed at what you can do with it. A beauty!

There are also more than one 4 note paraphonic settings. I saw it in loopop's vid. Real interesting: th-cam.com/video/KSaZEqfy0ac/w-d-xo.html

Thank you for sharing this. Great sounds. I have a Moog Matriarch, and I'm hooked experimenting with it. 😀

Doug Llewellyn? I wondered what happened to you after the People's Court went off the air.

Nice! Curious to know what patching, if any, is critical to this performance. I see a couple patch cables out the back...

The cables in the back weren't connected to anything. All routing was internal. As cool as it is having all those patch points, you can do a LOT with the normaled connections.
