Hello Doc, I'm a proffesional kitesurf instructor and got two cortison shots both ca. 4 months apart. Three year later my golfer elbow is still like new and it helped me completely stay pain free ever since, despite keeping up the activity (certainly more aware of the intensity doing the favorite specific moves which led to the issue - my medial epicondilitis use to hurt so much, I couldn't cut bread or wash my face without being in pain) My conclusion: One time treatment worked fantastic and helped tremendously for my mental state, keeping you more aware, respectful to your body, active and alive! Thank you for your useful video.
I'm going to try a one-time shit for my hip bursitis so I can get back to cycling. I've had elbow tendonitis for over a year, tried everything for that, so it might be an option for that as well.
I had an ultrasound guided shot in the shoulder AC joint. It definitely helped. I can sleep on that side now and no pain when lifting the shoulder. I still have that clicking and rubbing in the AC joint when trying to do a pushup that is uncomfortable. So, I avoid those activities. Something I have to live with. I am 51, U.S. Army retired. Never thought I'd have AC joint arthritis. I thought it might be an impingement, but it was not. MRI showed the thinning space in the joint. No side effects from the shot. Took about 5 days for it to take effect. It's been about three weeks and so far, so good. --Jim in Ohio
I was getting shots every 3 months, into my subtalar ankle joint. My doctors say that they are completely safe, at this frequency. I have heard differing opinions, that they are not so safe, and will deteriorate the cartilage and bone. Who do I believe?
Safe is a misleading term doctor’s love to throw around. Safe just means it won’t kill you. They use this with medication too. It could be super unhealthy. I’m getting my first shot for herniated disc tomorrow. Hopefully the last. I hope your’e not in need of them a year since your comment. All the best.
My problem started with a torn muscle in the forearm, which is as I believe the common flexor. It wasn't the tendon, but the muscle. I went to see my doctor for that problem. He said I had an inflamed tendon and I had to get a shot. I had the first shot but the pain didn't go away that I couldn't wash my face easily. Three months later, I was given another shot, and I didn't get any better. Four months later, I was given the third one, but I still felt the pain. Three months later, I went to my doctor's office to discuss this issue with him. He said you don't need any physical therapy, you don't need to have an MRI done because it's tendonitis which means inflammation in the tendon. He told me that I don't have to worry about it because it's not going to come off the bone, or it's not going to be torn. He gave me the fourth shot and he told me to keep working. This time I started to feel a pain in the tendon origin. The pain didn't go away. Four months later, I went to see an orthopedic at Henry Ford Hospital. The doctor asked me questions and he knew that I had already taken for shots in the tendon of the right elbow. I told him if there is a method that works for my golfer's elbow. He mentioned the steroid shots and the ones called PRP injections. He injected the fifth steroid shot but this time I had my tendon poked three to four times. I felt better for a couple weeks and kept working. The pain came back and this time was a more severe pain. A month later, I was changing four tires for a car, and I started to feel a very sharp pain in my right elbow with burning pain. I couldn't even grasp an object firmly. My right arm became very week and painful. I went to see a doctor at an urgent care. He ordered an MRI for me. The MRI showed that I have a high-grade tear in the common flexor tendon. Now I can't do anything, and I'm in trouble. The cause of the problem is the steroid shots and a bad diagnosis by the doctor I used to see. Thank you
I am 45 severe arthritis in my shoulder. My dr refuses to give me a shoulder replacement due to my age. He said I could get cortisone shot every three months. I'm seeking a second opinion.

I just had my cortisone injection 2 days ago, and I feel about 75% better but I know its probably just masking the pain, because when I move neck around, I still feel pain at times.
It takes 3 to 5 days cortisone shot start working so give your self like another week than see how much these shots work I also just got back done tomorrow been one week for me my pain totally gone
I have tendinitis in my shoulder the cortisone shot worked great but the pain returned 3 months later and my Dr said I can take as many shots as it takes to reduce the inflammation and the pain.
Had a cortisone shot on my knee about a year ago and it’s really eased the pain so far. I am able to play basketball once again. Going to contact my doctor about getting another if the pain worsens
Hi, this is from Hawaii about a year and a half. I got a Cortizone shot. I was doing the Zumba and tiptoe for my own foot went down, and I have a compressed fracture of my spine. I don’t take medication so I was in a hospital for quite a long time, but I didn’t take any Cortizone shot nothing, I usually take her if I have any kind of inflammation pain or whatever but in there it wasn’t happening so anyways I got out and I really couldn’t walk. I was in tremendous pain for months I have an injury that cannot be cured. It was the way I sell. so I basically spent my time in bed using walkers and on and on it goes about three or four months later I was told the orthopedic about the Cortizone shot. He is a spine specialist so I was admitted back to the hospital because it’s a procedure that requires the operation Cent it Hass to do with my spine and you do have to have a spinal Professional doctor do the procedure. It lasted about a year so it took almost a year for me to walk but I ended up back in for one more. I have not been back since last August. I still have a lot of pain but before I enjoyed walking and I really enjoyed walking in Zumba so whether I walk all I don’t walk I have pain so I try to walk anywhere between 3 to 5 miles a day at least five days out of lots of pain but if I sit down, I have pain if I walk I have pain so you might as well take care of your health and keep walking. This specialist only gives the shots twice a year. That is his advice and this doctor is right on track. If you’ve never tried it and you find out if there’s any side effects listen to this doctor he definitely talks like a pro and he is a pro. Thanks for listening from Hawaii.
Thank you Dr. David for this very informative video. I am a dancer, sidelined 8 years ago from a fall in a dance class. Tore my left ACL and got that fixed.. Lots of PT and working it out proved very beneficial.. in February, 2022, I hurt my right hip by banging my right knee into the ground and then my hip started hurting badly and in a lot of pain. I endured it till December and I did everything PT, Chiropractic, Accupunture, Massage Therapy, nothing made it better and then someone told me to get a coriszone shot, I did get it in my hip joint and I went on vacation pain free and was pain free till about February ( 3 months), and then after that was good on and off.. I got my second shot today and so far so good. I am just wondering it comes back can I get another one this year, or do I have to wait till next February? Also, should I start PT now that I have my second shot and it's still fresh?

dr. Dave thank you so much for this video. I regularly see my orthopedic surgeon for a rotator cuff tear of my right shoulder. He essentially said the same thing as you did... once I reached three shots over a period of two years I'm pretty much done with that mode of treatment. He told me I'm not really a good candidate for surgery to repair the tear. But he said that perhaps physical therapy might help to build up the muscle and protect that tear. Hello there Dr..Geier! I am glad to watched your video that gave me idea about cortisone. I have carpal tunnel syndrome on both hands. But, my right hand is worse than the left hand. I wanna try cortisone to ease the pain and inflammation. As wellas pain on my tennis elbow.
Some doctors do know what they are doing and some do not. Over the years I've been to both. The doctor that doesn't know can leave you with worse damage and problems than you can deal with. I wish you the best.

I had a cortisone shot in my lower back, two years ago, it just made me sick, never took away the pain. I had baxk surgery last year on my lumbar, i am still in pain a year later. I refuse to get Cortisone shot. Because its not good for me.
Good day. I had 2x depo medrol (cortisone?) Injection into my chronic golfer's elbow..pain went away for 3 weeks then returned much worse than it was before:( both elbows...i have pain when washing my hair or doing other normal easy chores..rest for months, ultrasound, magnetic treatment and stretching didn't help either...i am now thinking i should start working out in the gym and maybe that will stress those tendons and stimulate them to heal??? I dont know what other to try:/ and i love doing sports. What do you please think? Edit:doc says 3shots per year..but do not want anymore!and if i knew..i would never go for those first two injections.

Seems so. He doesn’t know why I have the occlusion so I doubt ha has any solution other than replacement. He’s delaying as long as possible hoping medical science advances on ankle repair so they can implement a fix.
severe arthritis in both shoulders. my orthopedic surgeon/specialist has given me cortisone injections in both soulders 3 times over 5 weeks. i asked him about it having negative side affects and he responded only in the spine and every 2 to 3 weeks is fine. contradicts what you and others are saying online.
My Dr. is giving my 2nd lower lumbar spinal injection within 3weeks time plus she wants me to also get one in my cervical spine for my herniated discs PLUS one on each hip for bursitis all within 2wks between shots. I questioned her and she said this is fine 🤔

I had a cortisone shot in each shoulder for impingement and bursitis. It gave me tremendous relief for about 4 months. My biggest mistake was to forgo PT while I was pain free. If I had done PT it would have helped resolve the root cause w.o. pain. I'm taking PT seriously now but it is so painful. I want to get another one but am afraid it will damage the tendon.
Hello dr pls do help me .. I’m a bodybuilder I liftd heavyweights shouldr pres n got my shoulder I’m pigmentations n supraspinates n bursitis.. it’s been a year did al Physo showd several doctors now it’s is not redusing now dr suggestions is for cortisone shot dose it gona help il it come back again pls do reply
😧 Whaaaaa?!?!? 😧 I’m very sorry but that doesn’t sound good! 😬 I guess it depends on how many units of the Med was in each injection. GOOD LUCK to you & be well!
The big needle is supposed to scare the pain away. If they're not using medicine they're looking at 8 to 10 shots a year. Seems I'm always on line for a procedure. There's so many patients that the doctors throw people away. I truly believe they should give prescription strength ibuprofen otc.
I had 2 cortisone injections for shoulder pain bc of partial rotator cuff tears. They did eliminate the pain but I choose to reduce usage of the shoulder to help stop the inflammation. Surgery is not a option. I use ice paks also to reduce inflammation and Pain.
I have fluid build up and bursitis in my shoulder which the pain from 1 to 10 always a 8 horrible I’m going for second opinion as what to do because this last Dr. oh no he shouldn’t even be a dr. I don’t like shots I had one before I put a hole in that area and a deep one
1 shot destroyed years of my life steroid phsychosis /bone weekness fatigue / depressian adrenal damage real bad ass shit for me. family member hmany problems also . 2 people commit suicide related very sad.

So you're doctor wants to speed up your deterioration instead of preventing it? That is complete malpractice and should be reported
Thank you.

What is ur age
What about degenerative disc ?
I took cortisone injection two times but couldn’t get good relief Please answer me
Torn acl with complications, seems to be working
Why cortisone injection sometimes doesn’t work? What’s the alternative?
Does these injections leads to weight gain? What if the patient is around 30 yrs, shud she take it for lifetime?
also great memory loss from kenolog 40 triamcinolone/ prednisone.
I had one today in my shoulder for impingement I'm hoping to strengthening the shoulder once pain free

Ok I just head 10 shots into my arm at once is this normal
😧 Whaaaaa?!?!? 😧
I’m very sorry but that doesn’t sound good!
😬
I guess it depends on how many units of the Med was in each injection.
GOOD LUCK to you & be well!
10 every week for 15years
The big needle is supposed to scare the pain away.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I have fluid build up and bursitis in my shoulder which the pain from 1 to 10 always a 8 horrible I’m going for second opinion as what to do because this last Dr. oh no he shouldn’t even be a dr. I don’t like shots I had one before I put a hole in that area and a deep one
