Absolutely! I would buy an M4 Mini Pro right now If could use thunderbolt to connect it to my iMac M1. Come on Apple, you probably lose sales keeping this locked out. Would be nice if I could hook up my Playstation too, or my mini PC.
@@TheFeedRocket I feels like they are too afraid that their products cannibalizing each other 🤣 I've seen people are turning their old yet functional iMac into a monitor by purchasing kit and replace things by themselves, but that's not something average me can do.

100%! I just started to look at the comments section to write the same thing! 21 inch is just too small. It doesn't make sense to buy an all-in-one computer with such a small screen.
My biggest problem with all in one computers is they aren't upgradeable. When your iMac needs replacing, so does your monitor, even though it should last for at least two or three computers.
@@VantaBlackholeYou’re a fool and missed the point completely. When the iMac needs to be replaced, you are not just losing your computer, you’re losing your monitor, speakers, webcam. Compared to a Mac mini, if you want to replace that you aren’t losing anything else but the computer. You can keep using the same monitor for as long as new Mac mini’s output to HDMI or DisplayPort. Same with the speakers. Yet with iMac, all the other stuff is included in the price despite only having the lifecycle of the computer.
I got an M1 iMac a couple weeks ago as a birthday present/family computer and it's wild how much use we are getting out of it. You really nailed how it has this sort of draw to it that makes you want to sit down at it and get things done. My wife just spent the day working from home on it and said she can't believe how we've gone so long without one. We might have to get another for a separate room.
Great video my friend. Only two weeks ago, I ordered my wife her first iMac - 24" (same colour as yours - the green!) Mate, she LOVES it. :-) - We ended uping her storage to 512gb. She's just a normal user, web browsing, youtube, word, etc. She loves the clarity of the screen and says it's the best computer ever! Right at the end of your video. Definitely don't hate you mate. My iMac life story is almost identical to yours and everything you said is 100% right! My yellow M3 iMac is at my family’s century-old three-season cottage... it’s ideal for my family use case and I absolutely love it. I’ve often said that iMac’s have a “soul” like no other piece of technology.
Every time I check what I could get instead of an iMac, the options are either more expensive or worse - sometimes both! And that’s before we even get to the beautiful design and colors that no computer seems to match.
But you can buy an MSI 27" 4K display for $200, and an Insta360 auto-framing 4K webcam for $150... The prices Apple charges for their displays are nuts.
@ yes. Not as silly as the price for memory or storage upgrades, but expensive. But text rendering on a 4k is garbage on macOS. Windows does scaling well, and the market settled on 4k panels, so these are cheap. There are no cheap 5k 27” displays. The Apple one is most expensive, but also best build quality and materials. Typically Apple, in other words. But yeah, I bought iMac cos it was basically the same price as the stand alone display.
I have an iMac 2020 i9 5700xt, and I love the form factor and getting to work on it. I have a Macbook M3 Max, which is also amazing, but for some reason, I feel inspired when I see my iMac. It switches my brain to work mode. I'll wait another generation before I upgrade, but in the meantime, it works just fine 🙏🏽
It’s nice to have nice things, and the iMac is one of those. Nothing wrong with that if you can afford it, or better yet justify it as you did here Greg.
The iMac look is a huge iPad with Mac OS and a 4.5k screen. I went from the M1 to the M3. Something about the iMac makes me want to use it over a studio display or MacBook to whatever monitor. It looks so simple clean and when you match it to HomePods, AirPods Max just can't beat it.
I got an iMac M4 a couple of days ago (base model), and it's just great. It's making my desktop work more efficient. I initially wanted a mini M4 but I thought that I might be missing out on the display monitor. But overall, I chose the iMac over the mini.
I really wish Apple would bring back Target Display Mode on the new iMacs. They market these computers to families, dorm dwellers, people who want a bedroom or kitchen computer, people in small apartments, etc. But generally we tend to want to maximize our screens and connect multiple things to them, especially in those circumstances. As an all-in-one the iMac occupies space that might be better served by a more flexible display. Giving it an AV input would make it a much more flexible and usable device.
Hey Greg, thanks for this SUPER video. I love how you mix the usefulness of the iMac with the nostalgia and "sense of joy" it can deliver. While my current lil' buddy is (still) a 2020 MacBook Pro, I know that some day it will need to be replaced. And I also know that the "sense of joy" it carries will pass along to its successor, just like happened with the ones which preceded it. Sheesh, so philosophical. But I think you know what I mean. Hey, I am still relatively new to your YT channel, but I love your work and, even more, the fun personality you bring to us. Take care, OK?
I get you completely, as my family laughs at me when the first thing I do when I walk into my den is touch my Ducati MH900e...been putting a smile on my face for 23 years now.
Watching this video on my M4 iMac, the first desktop PC I have ever used and I love it. I used my M2 13" MacBook Air in the past, now I use it when I need to do work outside of home. I use my 11" M2 iPad Air on my bed for media consumption. Love the range of products I have currently where each have their own use cases 😁
I got M4 iMac 2024 24GB/512GB for myself and love the experience out of it, was planning to get M4 Mac Mini but after putting bill of materials together and considering user experience etc decided to go for iMac
I went the exact opposite way. Got the Mac mini 24/512 with a beautiful 32" monitor from LG. It was $100 more altogether than the iMac. Worth it for the extra real estate on the monitor.
I love my 27" iMac and my Mini 4 Pro arrives today and is so hard saying so long to it! I wish they made a 27" or even larger one now I just can't justify 24". I'm trying this during the boring toothbrush portion of your video. 😂😂😂
I feel exactly the same way! I have an M1 ultra in the office connected to loads of stuff but I loved the iMac so much for exactly what you said I bought another M1 on clearance so we have one in the kitchen and one in the front room 😂
An iMac needs to last for a long time, since you are stuck with the monitor and internals. (I don't understand why people buy it in 2024 when it is only 24"). BUT, at least the quality of monitor panel, hardware and accessories makes a good deal compared to buying a separate monitor, Mac mini, Apple keyboard and mouse.
I like the white bezel, I look at against a light background and it just blends in so I focus right on the screen, I thought I wouldn't like a white border but I do.
I think Apple made a mistake to reduce the size from 27" to 24". They can offer iMac Pro version with bigger screen size will makes iMac more interesting in my opinion like 32 Inch or even bigger.
I still use my 2017 Intel iMac Pro. I will be replacing it shortly with a MBP or a Studio, but it’s served me well the last 7 years. I upgraded it several years ago by adding an eGPU, but it still works and it’s still supported by Apple. I’m not a fan of the 24” iMacs. If they came up with a 27” or 30” M4 iMac Pro Max, it may be a different story.
I would have loved to buy an iMac. It was always my dream computer. But 23,5 inch is just not cutting it for me. Every cheap windows AIO has a 27 inch these days.
Yep, joy, I recently replaced my 2017 Intel iMac which was getting long in the tooth, not because I needed to, but because I _wanted_ to. I was not disappointed! My compile times fly! Downloads to my embedded kit still suck but that’s the debuggers fault.
I agree with you, I haven't decided yet, but I think I might get the iMac and then the M4 Studio when it comes out for the heavy lifting....I'm even thinking of remotely using the Studio through the iMac sometimes. I even like the 24" size since I just use multiple desktops and swipe between them. Apple needs to make a 27" Pro model, the mini is just in the middle for me, I need the Studio but I might upgrade my M1 iMac.
Great video, as usual! Is 16GB of RAM enough to edit photos with Capture One? Which one of those, the iMac 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage and the Mac Mini M4 with the same specs would you recommend?
I use my Mini on a daily basis & love it BUT I still have a 2010 27" i7 soupeds up with many sata SSD (I removed the CD/DVD burner & use an external one if needed) and it makes for a pretty good 2K Monitor that is my main screen I use with my Mini via mini displayport :) note : I also use a second cheaper 27" screen in vertical mode as a side monitor. Also I like my old iMac since it allows me to use Old and Proven Software (3D-CAD by Vectorworks for instances) & some older peripherals (such as my Canoscan 9000f). Of course, if I need to use the iMac, i can either switch it back to internal video or I can also get access to it via the Mini with a shared screen (Remote desktop) of the iMac on the Mini! This is great for drag n drop of any files on & from the many HD attached to my iMac. I even have a DP port switch to allow me to use the iMac screen not just with the Mini, but also with my old PC if need be. Of course, my keyboard & wireless mouse & conference headset are all connected to both Apple devices via a USB switcher. (side note: yes you can use this on the PC if need be & you know how to extract the drivers from Bootcamp installer, something i actually did with success :) Then used MIT's PowerToy suite to change/remap some keys for same commands, even in windows, while using my mac old extended keyboard.) So, yes, I like my old iMac (even if the Mini is super fast compared to it at this point). It has served me well & has paid for itself many times over. Cheers!
My first Mac in 2001 was...an iMac. No need to justify your choice. iMacs are just...fun...that way! IYKYK! I miss my old green DV iMac and never got another one, after the motherboard burned out. Why? Because...the Mac Mini swooped in and stole my heart in 2005.
I thought about selling mine as mine is quite old... thinking about trying to save up for the newer ones. BUT the iMac I have now has 319.96GB of storage, which is a good plus factor
I still use my Intel i5 2015 iMac, even if only for my cycling app. Still powerful enough to run Zwift, and when I got on the bike yesterday I remembered how good the screen was compared to even my Dell 4k monitor that I use with my main computer now, a cracked screen M1 MBA. The M4 mini will replace the MBA in a bit, and the M1 will go back to bike duties, except I need to figure out how to make it work with the iMac screen, either by gutting it, or getting Luna Display to work (I've tried and the main problem is that I need to have the wired monitor to see what I'm doing.)
I have always liked the iMac, and it was my first introduction to the Mac ecosystem. If Apple made an iMac Pro again, I thinks I would trade in my M1 MacMini for one, provided I could run 2-external monitors with it, without a special dock.
I still don't like the big white bezels on the iMac. So I prefer the studio display and Mac mini set up I have. If Apple decide to make a more pro 32 inch iMac then I might have been tempted.
Nowhere near as good. I have a personal 24" iMac and while it's perfectly useable, the Studio Display I use at work is so much better. Best way I can describe it is it's more evenly lit across the panel.
I can't stand the 24" iMac and all the color crap. I still use my 27" i9 10 core iMac daily it sits next to my work computer (Mac Studio) and makes quite a combo. The 10 core i9 still holds its own against the M-series Macs. Showing whether it's Intel or M chip it's it the number of performance cores that matters. I like the iMac and it is my second one the screen is fantastic and has lots of ports. The big chin of the old iMac is perfect for post it notes. I work in music so my iMac is connected to some good studio monitor speakers and when wanting to relax watching movies on the 27" with the monitor speaker is really great. I do hope Apple comes out with another 27" or bigger iMac I would order one immediately.
I hate the design of the M series iMac’s. I had a 2011 model and I still love the design, I wish they’d have kept it at least from the front. Worst case scenario they could have shrunk the bezels.
I'm the same, I have an M3 Pro 16 inch that I use 90% of the time in clamshell connected to a Dell 32 inch monitor. I bought the M4 iMac on a whim to see if I'd like it and I've been using it a lot for the past 3 weeks due to its uncluttered all-in-oneness. And its webcam is so much better than any prior generation including studio display. By the way, can you Airplay onto the iMac without lag? I've tried using a Thunderbolt cable but there's still noticeable latency unlike if I just use universal control controlling them separately
Don't know why Apple has never had at least the 'pro' level chip in the M1, M3 and now the M4 imac. In the intel models from about 2010 through 2020 there was i3, i5, i7 & i9's available in different variations before you got Xeon's in the imac pro.
Well after Apple in March 2023 did not come out with a 27 inch 5K M1 Apple iMac I went away from the all in one iMac for good. I was looking at a number of TH-cam clips about other options. Replaced my Apple iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) with 32GB memory, and 2TB SSD storage. Purchased Apple MacBook Air M1 chip with 8‑core CPU, 7‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine, 16GB unified memory, 2TB SSD storage. With CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock. LG Ultra HD 5K Ultra Slim 27MD5KA-B Monitor on a black NB North Bayou VESA Monitor Arm Desk Mount. For items that I have on another part of my desk purchased Anker 7-Port USB 3.0 Data Hub. My sound system is a Logitech Z313 2.1 Multimedia Speaker System with Subwoofer, Full Range Audio, 50 Watts Peak Power, Strong Bass, 3.5mm Audio Inputs. From this point forward do not see myself ever going back to the all in one iMac. I feel this is a personal preference.
Sure Greg, it is a nice computer but the screen is just too small. Why can't Apple make a 27 or 32 inch iMac? Most normal people can just afford to have a laptop, an external screen AND an 21 inch. If you need a computer at work and at home it is much cheaper to buy two decent screens that don't need updating every 3-5 years and a laptop, or if you want an always ready setup, just get a Mac Mini...
Spot on, Greg...the M4 is the best desktop for the majority of computer users...the colors pop and the whole setup is clean and sleek...I'm keeping my orange M1 and will add a Green M4 soon...that green is vibrant!
My 2011 iMac was my favourite thing in the world. The new iMacs are incredibly, disgustingly, ugly. I saw them in store the day after launch and I was aghast.

So, yes, I like my old iMac (even if the Mini is super fast compared to it at this point).
“I can’t be bothered to get up and get my Macbook so I’ll buy an entirely new and separate computer that’s always ready.” C’mon man.
Is it appropriate to use imac for “little” gaming such as roblox or minecraft and doing office works, programming websites? Kind regards, Tim!
Yeah should work fine for that
@ thanksss
Nice video
i just hear your song, 7 years
iMac is stunning. I love it.
How does the display compare to Apple's Studio display?
Besides the size difference, they look very similar.
Nowhere near as good. I have a personal 24" iMac and while it's perfectly useable, the Studio Display I use at work is so much better. Best way I can describe it is it's more evenly lit across the panel.
@@daltonidaho you must be giving your best to justify Studio Display.
@@wojt4spes Meh, not really, both displays are good, but the Studio Display is better overall. I'd happily use either.
Apple have already announced that they have no plans to release another larger iMac.
@@davidjacobs6244 They said they weren't going to do another 27" iMac there has been talk of a 30" or 32" iMac.
@@DojoOfCool yeah, only talk 🗣️ and probably fake rumours.Gurman isn’t always right. Can’t see them ever releasing an iMac as big as 30 or 32”.
Yeah if it inspires you. We must all be inspired.
This video was just an excuse to pull that electric toothbrush sponsorship, wasn’t it, bro? 😂 Lol, I love you so much 😂
Spot on, Greg...the M4 is the best desktop for the majority of computer users...the colors pop and the whole setup is clean and sleek...I'm keeping my orange M1 and will add a Green M4 soon...that green is vibrant!
Hey Greg is that a Alexa behind your IMac.
Can you do a tear down of the M4 iMac?
Is 500 nits bright enough? The Macbook Pro is now double the brightness at 1000 nits
Most PC Monitors still aren't even 500 nits. 500 nits is plenty for a display you're only going to use indoors.
When you touch it, do you feel excited?
they do look nice. but pricy...
My 2011 iMac was my favourite thing in the world. The new iMacs are incredibly, disgustingly, ugly. I saw them in store the day after launch and I was aghast.
…to be used as a content for another revenue stream?
Greg, that's the number one question that every iMac owner has every time they see their iMac, "Why is this on my desk?!"
LOL
