If Rose let the cops take Chris' ID, they'd have evidence when he would eventually become a missing-person.

Right? That moment is diabolical when you rewatch it. The cop was probably trying to check if he was one of the missing people they were looking for, but Rose played it off like he was racially profiling.

This movie is so well made. Some other easter eggs I didn't see commented yet, there's tons of color choices in the movie, mostly black and white but when Rose and Chris go on a walk together he's in blue and she's in red and white stripes, just like the American Flag. Also the grandpa in Logan's body is running through the yard at night because he's still trying to beat Jesse Owens' time.

This movie completely exaggerates the process of hypnosis...you can only get hypnotize if your open to it. And it doesn't allow another soul to take over your body.😂
I share this bc on a personal note my daddy was a hypnotist in the 70's, did tours like in Vegas...even opened once for Sammy Davis Jr.! 16:00 That is a great scene. I mean, that actress, that I don't know, deserves an Oscar prize only for this scene. Moreover, here it's when the movie become REALLY unrealistic: how THAT don't make Chris run to his home? That lady is crealy a psichotic, I won't have stay in that house one minute more (honestly, I'd been running home since the hypnotize against my will thing, to be honest). I think that Chris acts too dumb, in this movie, to be believiable. I can't emphatyze with him. It's my opinion, don't hate me now, please.

  • @Arkainjel

I've noticed something new every time I watch this, but upon this viewing I realized Chris said he regretted that his mother died bleeding on the side of the road, cold and alone. He later has the opportunity to kill Rose but decides to leave her, bleeding on the side of the road, cold and alone. I don't necessarily know if it means anything but it's just a new observation for me that I thought I'd share.
There's also an argument to be made for when Chris breaks Missy's tea cup. Missy uses a silver spoon (a symbol of wealth and status) to exhibit control over black people. When Chris takes away her power over him, she immediately reacts by resorting to violence. I feel like this parallels with the radical right's reaction that "we're losing the country our forefathers built" during the election of President Obama, who is mentioned several times throughout the film.
This is definitely a rewatchable movie and I recommend you do so. Once you know the twist, everything starts to make a lot more sense the second time around.

Great movie, glad you enjoyed it. Just wanted to add, hypnosis gets a bad rap, mostly due to it being over exaggerated in regards to what it can and can't do.
You can 100% resist a suggestion given, in fact you're just as aware as you are when awake. A lot of the suggestion's power comes from your willingness to have it happen. In reality she couldn't make him stop smoking if he was resistant to it. This is probably the biggest liberty taken by movies/tv about hypnotism.
Hypnosis is actually a state of heightened focus and suggestibility, but it does not render an individual powerless or under the control of the hypnotist.
Think of it kind of like being drunk, when drunk your inhibitions lower, however I can't make you do something that goes against who you are if you're drunk. The same goes for hypnotism.
While hypnotism can work in regards to your memory, such as accessing memories your 'non-hypnotized' mind might not be able to; it cannot cause you to forget what happened while you were under hypnosis.
    -------
Here's a great example regarding your control over yourself while hypnotized from an article I found:
    -------
Stage hypnotists sometimes give the impression that they are exercising power over a subject; that they can make people act any way they want them to. In fact, people cannot be hypnotized against their will, and once hypnotized, cannot be forced to do something that is against their will.
What’s the first thing a stage hypnotist does….? That’s right, they ask for a volunteer! They don’t pick people at random. The folks who volunteer to be hypnotized in front of 200 stranger are predisposed to do whatever the hypnotist tells them to. They are ready to perform before they even raise their hand!
The technical terms for this are “ego syntonic” and “idiosyncratic”. First, for a suggestion to be effective, it must be “ego syntonic”, which means in-synch with the person’s basic morals, beliefs, and values. A suggestion delivered outside of someone’s values or morals will ALWAYS be ignored, and in most cases, will bring the person immediately out of trance.
The second suggestion requirement is “idiosyncratic”, which means “something they would commonly do anyway” (an “idiosyncrasy”). For example, if I had a client who often twirled her hair, and I gave her a suggestion under hypnosis that she would twirl her hair, I would likely get that exact response. However, if twirling her hair was not something she regularly did (in other words, it was not one of her “idiosyncrasies”) then I would most likely get no response at all to my suggestion, or a visual response of confusion on my client’s face.

The original ending was that Chris was arrested and sent to prison by a real officer in the police car but Jordan Peele felt that it would’ve been just too dark of an ending. So this ending was to give the protagonist a W, and I’m happy for it. 💯

Real hypnosis with a practicing psychologist is safe and nothing like this. Real hypnosis CANNOT make you do anything you aren't comfortable with, but we fear it. So, massive points to Jordan Peele for grasping WHAT MAKES HYPNOSIS A NIGHTMARE!
