I think you've got the maize in at exactly the right time. 32%DM is perfect for fermentation and if you go much higher you really run the risk of heating at the face when you open it. The grain was at the right stage and will digest well. Being green, the leaves and some of the stem will also be a good source of NDF rather than just indigestible fibre so you are getting value out of the whiole plant, not just the grain. If you only want starch, just buy maize grain!

If you create a completely new feed storage near the large one that was filled first you can get this built with concrete pad and connecting steel coming out of the floor. The sides could be 400mm thick and go up to 2m tall getting you twice the storage you have as present. Good luck
2 meter high walls would be awesome 👌 I can’t build near the first one tho as I’ve run out of flat land unfortunately, I could always do earth works and would have to pull down that shed but probably not worth it at this stage 👍

I wonder if your using the same terms as we do here in the US. We almost never chop with the dry matter under 40% That is still 60% moisture. With anything under 40% we get terrible run off out of the bunks. In our up right silos we want it a little drier than that, around 45-50% dry matter in them. If you would put 32% dry matter in them they would freeze terrible along the walls in the dead of winter.

I’ve never done turnips but maize is a pretty safe bet, it was about 6ha all up but not too sure how many tonnes it was all up, never got the choppers reading

No, you can’t eat these ones, they would taste like flower probably, they’re not sweet at all. I do plant sweet corn in the crop sometimes, I’ll do it next season 👍
