Whitham is a legend. Always remember him racing in the early ‘90s against the likes of McElnea, Rymer, Reynolds, Morrison, Haslam, Stringer, Nation and others. Wonderful times.
Such a lovely genuine guy James Whitam . I met him and John Mcguinness at one of their events in Banbury last year. James is the sort of guy you could go down the pub with and listen to all evening. Such a talented rider in his day.
Fan bloody tastic , I also raced 125s in the early 80s had no clue what I was doing but great times with big grids, a mini 850 with a bike trailer and a two man ridge tent, then off to Cadwell in the snow, not many would have that commitment now, money is now the big factor and being honest I don't see that that sort of pure dedication anymore, possibly this was our adrenalin fix, no internet, no mobiles, lets go racing while also having fantastic fun.
There’s a lot to be said for that way of racing, no question. Time doesn’t stand still and it’s a very different paddock today as I’m sure you know. Isn’t right? That’s up for debate; is it better? In some ways yes but in so many ways…. No.
Top Job👍. Met James a few times at Elvington and Scarborough. Stories to tell😁 shame when you put a comment on here, you get no like or reaction! Makes you feel you've been wasting your time. Good Job Jamie. Loved that👍
Really? Look at all the shows we’ve done, I spend ages replying to comments or at the very least liking them 🤷🏼♂️ I can only apologise if I’ve missed yours previously. Thanks for your kind words 🙂
Another fabulous interview with another absolute legend. Love Whit, both as a rider and a commentator on BSB. Really miss Jack Burnicle in the commentary booth with James, they were fantastic together, no disrespect to Steve Day, but the Jack and James show just made it. Brilliant interview again Dave, I love how you ask a question and then just sit back and let them answer it in full. Love this podcast 👍✊
Thanks so much! Asking a question and then just STFU and let the guest tell their answer is an art I’ve worked hard on so thank you for your kind words 😊 Jack and James were exceptional, no question; they had hundreds of races to get acquainted at both WorldSBK and BSB level so it was always gonna take time for James and Steve to find that chemistry but it’s getting there. Thanks so much for your kind words 🙏🏼
I could watch Whit all day. Saw him at Hizzy's funeral (Hizzy was a pal) and he was a gentleman. Never bothered him but he said hi to alot of us locals. I think he sensed how affected the area was.
@@OffTrack_PodcastYES! JH flies under the radar but what a lovely bloke. It's been cool seeing him evolve in his broadcasting career to what we see and hear today. I always judge these things on "would I miss him/her if they weren't there" and the BSB team has no fat if that makes sense. James H would leave a noticeable gap. And what a rider. B*lls like spacehoppers lol. Serious question though Dave. Do you know if these guys are aware of how loved and respected they actually are?
Really enjoyed listening to a great chat from here in Bali..:so good to hear my local accent…cor…how much do I miss fish n chips, mushy peas wi bits, salt and vinegar a bread cake washed down with a can of Shaws dandelion and burdock…🙏&❤️
It’s the little things you miss so much when you’re away - glad we could bring that warm feeling for you over there and thanks so much for listening to us, it’s hugely appreciated 😊👊🏼
Cheers Matt, I’d love to have had a good couple of hours or more with Whit but he’s a busy fella. We’ll do one on his career before the season ends all being well 😉
@@OffTrack_PodcastThat would be great. 😊 I remember him having some cracking battles in the 90's in World Supersport before his time in World Superbikes. Time can make memories alter but I'm sure him and four/five others seemed to be battling it out every round one season. Was it the Belgada Yamaha, that could be totally wrong but I think it was something like that.
Think i remember the name Whitham from the late 80s early 90s on a 600 (cbr600f?) on eurosport. Great racing and very nice tracks in the UK. Greatings from the Netyherlands.
Awesome interview with James. Interesting to hear about the 1st and 2nd world war. I've also been to the Menin Gate, Vimy Ridge and Auschwitz and studied the 3rd Reich during my degree. Fascinating subject.
Cheers for watching, Dean 🙂 yeah, both Charlie and Whit have a great fascination for both conflicts and it’s nice to hear you share their interests and have visited the historic sites, too 🙌🏼
@OffTrack_Podcast Absolutely and great both do. Is a fascinating subject and can go in so many directions. I highly recommend going to Auschwitz as its both humbling and terrifying
Great interview Dave, will never tire of listening to Whit. Funny thing though, he is the most famous person in my phone but just like he said about Simon le Bon, why would he answer a text from me and yet he did when I once asked him a daft question😂 Although he did sort of snap at me once at one of his and Foggys shows when I think he misunderstood my comment and I always feel like I would like to apologise 🤷 so sorry about that James 🙏
Great episode. Met him and Foggy a number of years back on their tour and they were so funny . So was the show. I could get them a place that does up to 300 which is handy on the way to Knockhill for many and would be cheap 👍 Keep up the good work 👏
No problem, it was fun and due to a connection with the charity I took the mini motorbike as a raffle prize in with us . We were surprisingly ushered through into the back where the lads and PM the sponsor were . You can imagine what one was like about the bike . Oh it won't start . Eh no fuel . Why ? Safety etc . At which point our hero gave his thoughts on how on earth he had ever had his own wsb team 😂 Probably the funniest coffee I had in years . Then Birdy and Dave came in !!! 😂
James once said during his commentary that when he was racing and fell off, his excuse was that he slipped on a slug on the track!! I pissed myself laughing. Me and my mates still laugh about it to this day! Haha😂
Any chance Whit could do one of his talk shows in North Wales? Maybe when he’s doing one of his Anglesey track days interviewing the lads he’s got teaching with him? I’m more than happy to research venues for him if he’d like to let me know what he needs?
Whit is mega so knowledgeable on the greatest sport. Be good if you have a mid season catch up podcast??? That's if the great man had the free time of course .
Had the pleasure of watching him play drums with the po boys at wsbk at brands hatch, when it was one big party weekend, bikes in the campsite getting the tits revved out of them, a band playing on top of a transit with a naked woman dancing, pretty boring now tbf
They have their chosen ones in Jake, Scott and Eddie. They won’t deviate from that and it’s going to bite them, especially TNT - there’s potentially 3 or 5 years until we could see a Brit in MotoGP on top of the four seasons we’ve already had if Jake doesn’t get a shot… on the flip side we have three in the top ten in F1.
@OffTrack_Podcast Yes true its a competitive championship but if Kyle the gentleman can shake the self doubt he'll win. When his heads right he's unstoppable. Hats off for the brilliant interviews keep up the good work. Ta for the reply
James Whitham is BSB, it wouldn't be the same without him....... brilliant podcast Dave. A great listen.
Your kind words are much appreciated, thank you 🙌🏼
I could sit and listen to James all day long, he's such a legend. Awesome Dave, another great interview mate 👌👌👌
I’d love more time with him as I’ve never done a career chat but very grateful for what we get and thank you 🙂
Simply do not get tired of listening to Whit. Great on TV, great on a podcost and so very engaging in person.
All of the above, Andrew 👌🏼
Yet another belter of a podcast 👌they are now an addiction ✊✊
I love Whit. Top bloke, superb knowledgeable and i could listen to him all day.
Couldn’t agree more, Tim - so could I 😁

Absolutely true on all counts, Jon 🙌🏼
Great interview. Ian Simpson was at Whits track school last year at Cadwell. top bloke and helped me a lot.

Just like listening to a best mate does James. Fabulous...
Absolutely love this bloke in the right way Dave I’ve only ever met him once but what a bloke 👍
Thanks Nick, and yeah I agree he’s absolutely one of the best to chat with on or off the record 😁
Great interview. Only one thing wrong with it. It was about 4 hours too short. 😂 The TT really need to get him and Steve Parrish back involved.
Yes, yes & YES!

I’ll certainly ask the question, Lyndon 👌🏼
Can you ask if they have someone they admire from a different sport
Great question, JP 👏🏻
My burning question for Whit would be…. Why did Jack Burnicle vanish 🤔
That’s more a question for Jack, I’d suggest 😊
Jack was at classic motorcycle show last October in Stafford interviewing Henry Cole , Alan milyard , Guy Wilison.
Had the pleasure of watching him play drums with the po boys at wsbk at brands hatch, when it was one big party weekend, bikes in the campsite getting the tits revved out of them, a band playing on top of a transit with a naked woman dancing, pretty boring now tbf
Proper days, Paul! Not see those again, sadly 🤷🏼♂️
Why can't bsb be on stock bikes? Same engine as superbike... With lots of extra parts fitted, so why spend the extra money on it?
That’s kinda what the pathway bike is, it’s not just taken off as well as I’d imagined it would - I think there are only three on the grid for ‘24
Why aren't DORNA doing more?
They have their chosen ones in Jake, Scott and Eddie. They won’t deviate from that and it’s going to bite them, especially TNT - there’s potentially 3 or 5 years until we could see a Brit in MotoGP on top of the four seasons we’ve already had if Jake doesn’t get a shot… on the flip side we have three in the top ten in F1.
Kyle Ryde has the winning of this
Hard to bet against him, Willie - whoever wins it will have had to battle hard against at least three others if not more ✊🏼
@OffTrack_Podcast Yes true its a competitive championship but if Kyle the gentleman can shake the self doubt he'll win. When his heads right he's unstoppable.
