      If you know that water naturally flows from a point higher in elevation to a point lower in elevation, then you'll never be in the position of having a pond on a point of higher elevation!

    It must be nice to have prefect dirt. Here,there is rocks of all sizes and roots. Leveling is a art.

      My property is called rock Hill because it turns into solid rock as you go further onto the property.
      We have about 5 acres at the bottom is perfect farm ground with no rocks. The top of the hill is a solid sheet of rock.

      @@aaronburford5701 wasn’t me, but yeah he did. I’m an operator and I do small jobs but sometimes I’ll use the excavator and get little patches of sod with each scoop and either take some home or just replant it where I disturbed the land.

    You and I go at it the same way. Sometimes I hit the center of the canal with my backhoe to establish a centerline depth and straight trench, but that’s for long 100+ yard canals, In the end, I’m sure our results are the same. You gotta love the utility of the track steer.

    We do this here in Michigan where water drains out of fields into drain tile entrance’s, you wouldn’t even know something was there till you walk up to it because the grass is so tall and can cause the water to divert a path around, super simple and fast

    Good job. That’s what you have to do to keep grade without a tilt blade like a dozer would have. Wether isn’t a track machine with a bucket or a wheel loader. I loaded rock trucks with blast rock at a mine for a few years. That’s how I’d keep the grade going the way it was supposed to, I’d come at it with my wheels going with the grade. Or down a sloped grade, I’d keep them in the right spot for my bucket to be on the sand angle of grade I wanted of needed. I’ve run dozer for quite a few years too. Much simpler when you can just tilt your blade. But still, you come at things at a certain angle or grade with your tracks also. Makes it easier

    The tooth bucket is absolutely the way to go. I finally put teeth on my 84in bucket after 15 years of owning it. Best $700 I ever spent.

    I used to excavate grades with a backhoe. Using the front bucket to grade and the rear bucket arm, slid out across the mount to one side, swing the arm out to the same side. Do the same for the other side.

    We call it a Swale. It's basically a shallow ditch for water drainage and it's easy to mow.

      This is the third time I’ve made a video digging this type of trench. In the first two, I called it a swale and people got mad at me because they say this is not a swale.
      I thought I would avoid the argument by not using the word.
      So much for that.

    Thats how you dig a ditch with a cable operated dozer to.Alot of people now days look back at the old cable dozers and blowes there mind how you do that.These people running dozers today have all that help on board to make them a OPERATOR.They need a dose of old school like running a old 2-u D-8.That will make a operater out of ya lol.Back then we listened to the engine to tell you what its doing.

    It takes longer but I use this method with a box blade behind the tractor. It works pretty well.

    We call that a light v Ditch where I’m from. We do ours with dozers
