Thanks Gary. This TH-cam clip was so helpful. I own a Australian 2010 Ford FG which has the ZF6HP26 Trans. Car was going into Limp mode every now and then and became more frequent, car has done 150,000 kms . Went to Ford dealership to scan for codes which were wrong ratio's for 5th and 6th gear. Have rebuild trans with bush kit and overhaul kit and is running sweet. I like your little trick when you were doing A drum with bushing tool.

Glad to hear all is well, Does ford call the unit a ZF6HP26? Here we call the ford unit a 6R80. Gary

We have both Gary. 6r60/80 in some of our fords and the higher performing ones use the 6hp26.. guys are building these in Australia for high performance and using 6r80 input shafts which are way beefier than the standard input. Cheers :)

    Gary, me again|
Dude this is again a life saver, i commented in the other video that i pulled out the insides of the ZF hp gearbox. Now i wanted to take the internals for an inspection and bushing changes to a shop.
And i wanted to pay for that in full, now i was to few shop already and anywhere i go, once the shop learns i tore it down my self - they say F*U to my face and decline any work on the bushings or the gearbox.... so wether i like it or not im forced to do this my self

Awesome video! Very detailed. After watching your videos I decided to rebuild mine. It worked! Took me a lit longer than you, but learned a lot. I had a 3-4 flare that would go to fault mode. By the way what is the tool that you use to pull out the bushings?

Mine is doing exactly same thing. What did you all replace in yours? All the bushings or just the E clutch one? And the clutches. Do you remember how much you paid for the parts? I'm thinking about talking on this challenge. I swapped mine with a junkyard pull and it's doing this. Smh. My original transmission was doing same thing and I think it started to also slip on 1-2.

hy, im rebuild the valvevbody with new separator plate, solenoids, accumulator damper and rebuild the torque converter, but the upshifts are still harsh (usually between all gears)if I don’t give throttle, and the second problem is reacts late use break and add throttle. That is bushing, tcm or something? no fault codes and the clutch adaptation values are pretty (around -100-(-200)

hello Gary, I have a jaguar xf with 6hp26 which gives blows to the downshift 2 towards 1, as if the 1 engages later since when I leave too quickly a blow occurs.
then I have engine rpm variations from 3 to 6 only when the engine starts to heat up with big vibrations and the problem is accentuated when the road goes up. I have no faults in the computer. what do you think?

Hey so on my ZF 6HP28 I've diagnosed it to be a worn stator bushing but was wondering from your experience is this likely to of caused excessive wear to the E gear to necessitate the replacement of the e gear or should replacing the bushings do the trick? or is this more of a depends on the situation kind of thing? Gary so the reason that these transmissions have problems with the E clutch / Overdrive clutch is worn out stator bushing causing a leak so the clutch isn't applied properly?

Yes, when the bushing wears out, the E clutch apply oil can escape causing issues in 4th through 6th gears

Gary, now that the repair on the BMW 2004 545i 100k miles appears to be bad bushing, what do you recommend it's done to the transmission shop after it's pulled. I can in the future replace valve body plate and solenoids but I don't have the lift to pull the tranny to replace the internals bushings/clutches etc. Do you know a re-manufacturing facility in the SFCO Bay area Ca. that you can recommend, what should be an acceptable warranty after the repair. I have a question about the pilot bearing replacement on a 6hp26 back in the rear shell / output flange area part. Not sure exactly what the proer name is , but there's only 2 pilot bearings. The one that's in the output flange part has 3 steaked dimples securing the bushing in place. Seems like I would remove it like any other bushing and file the dempled / distorted edge caused by the factory steaked dimple and proceed to install a new one? Thanks. Your videos gave me the confidence to rebuild my 6hp19, which turned out great! Thanks Gary!

      Hello Gary.
Very nice videos. Now I feel prepared to do my trans with my little son (4). The 6ho26 in my 530d is now giving me real problems. 1 to 2 hard shifting, 2 to 3 and 5 to 6like a ruber band. Doing a 120 k's and kick down (now even without kick down) leads to emergency run and goes in neutral. It has 330.000 km an a new mechatronic.
Now I got a trans with about 60.000 km an I want to chang the bushings before it comes in.
      My question.
Which kit shell I get because you use only 7 bushings in your video and the mentioned kit from duro bond has 14 bushings.
Thanks a lot for helping us so much with your very nice videos.

@@PlayBoss81 The 2 smallest bushing (where the intermediate shaft's ends are riding on) are locked in place somehow and changing them - due to the Sonnax manual - requires machining/ grinding away parts of their seating, so I doubt if the replacement ones would be safe in place and decided against putting those in. There were other bushings left in my kit (from Omega Machine, as Gary was using a few years ago) also. At 60.000 km I would (if at all) only replace the stator bushing (as the one most prone to wear) btw - my unit, built into a V8 Jaguar, survived 230.000 km without any problems... In case you need the "small" stator bushing (input shaft diameter 26 mm): I have 4 Sonnax bimetal stator bushings left over from my own rebuild.

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  6 ปีที่แล้ว

2 Things can cause this problem, first is the rear stator bushing, when the bushing wears out it leaks E clutch oil, the E clutch comes on in 4th and stays on for 5th and 6th gear. the other possible issue that can cause this problem are the solenoids. Do you actually have a 6R80? is this a metal or plastic pan? just reread and i see its a ford

Depends on the year, the 21x could be a Gen2 unit

I bought this set 30 years ago, not sure who made it, I have a small set that i got from harbor freight, but for the A drum you would need large drivers, maybe try googling it, the ones ive seen maybe alittle pricey, if you like i can see what my supplier has

what a junk transmission seriously I rebuild transmissions its such a shame that an expensive transmission like this needs this kind of work at such low mileage.
