The pasta came out of the basket but was still in the pot
Jack: " great now I wasted a whole box of pasta"
Jacks the reason they put "may contain nuts" on peanut containers
Haha, I can imagine what the employees at the stores he buys these products at think every time he walks in to buy something..."Oh great, here comes the guy that uses and returns everything he buys..."
maybe you should use the right sized cooking pot
im surprised he hasnt tried to take the cooked pasta back to the store because it falls through a basket.....ffs
Fray Bentos lmfao
I don't think I've ever thought, "Wow! Cooking pasta is incredibly difficult! I wish I could pay someone to get rid of that difficulty!"
I don't have problem using this product, it works perfectly. I think you should use the right sized cooking pot
That’s exactly the point!
The infomercial also showed that the pot they used with the product is not nearly as wide as the one you used.
Two common observations that I have read in this thread is he isn't using the right pot or he is using too much pasta. The pot isn't the problem. Any pot is going to elevate the basket towards the top. As for too much pasta, he clearly said he used one box. That is not an unreasonable amount of pasta. Most families would use one box of pasta for a serving. If it can't hold enough pasta for a typical family than the product is useless for most people. Finally, read other reviews...Jack's observations are consistent with many reviews on the web.
BigOrangeT lol obviously youve never heard of displacement or Archimedes, u just love jack that much
I cringe every time he laughs and covers his mouth with his hand.
I think you mean giggle lol
+Kali_Dash I think you're right!
Teehee
🤭
I don't think a bigger pot would matter. It's gonna pull the pasta to the top of whatever pot you use
A deep pot that is not as wide might work. Also, you've put a little too much pasta in the basket for your amount of water, etc. At least, this is what it seems like to me. According to the internet the "9” diameter - for use in 4-6 quart size pots." Your pot is far too large, Jack.
Jack,
You've probably been told this a million times, but you've used it incorrectly, you're not suppose to use a massive pot like you were using in this video, had you used a smaller pot, it would have worked
The commenters are so right! It's obviously YOUR fault for overloading the chef basket with a box of pasta, which is pretty much the standard recipe size for pasta in general. Also, you don't have the specific pot height and width! Buy an entirely new set of dishware so the chef basket can work in its exact conditions! (and yes, that actually won't help. The issue he was having was that it makes any volume pot the size of the very small chef basket) What's next, you're going to tell me that the most commonly cooked Italian pastas are much thinner than penne and those huge holes will make all of it fall out!?
You dropped the past in water that wasn't even boiling
Defeats the purpose of a good steaming too since the sides prevent a tight-sealing lid.
>she ain't touchin meat
The pot wasn't as deep as the pot in the commercial and that is probably why it was a fail
+snowy wu Even if the pan were taller, it wouldn't matter. When you fold out the sides of the basket to keep the handles cool, it brings the top of the basket up level with the top of the pot, meaning much of the basket, the widest part no less, is not submerged.
Thank you so much for reviewing these products and bursting the colourful, musical, sunshine and butterflies infomercial bubble. It is easy to get swept up in the perfection of these adds and the real deal is usually such a let down.
He did it wrong bc it says to flip it to steam and he was in steaming mode not pasta mode. Who agrees with me
No steaming was the shallow side
Jack in the Infomercial. It had a bigger basket. The one you have needs to use a smaller pot. My friend was bummed about that too;
@linjabajda no I didn't. Upside down as I show in the video doesn't let the basket drop down at all.
You're not supposed to use a pot that big for it. I have one and it works great on the correct sized pots!
Will Kasper I just brought one what size pot should be used? I want to fry in mines.
I have this Chef's basket. I primarily use it to boil potatoes and cook very large pasta like big shells and manicotti. You do have to use a pot holder on the handles though. But don't buy it online..Walmart has it.
Guys, it won't matter if he gets a deeper pot. In order for the pasta to fully get soaked in boiling water, he needs to fill the WHOLE pot (even if its a deeper pot).
I remember selling these fry basket to raise funds for my boy cub troop, back in the mid 1960s! Flashback!
Jack the pot you used was way too shallow. if you used a taller and thinner pot it would have worked perfectly. That's what it's meant to be used with.
Doesn't say that in the infomercial which is what he was going off of. The product is just a fail
+Toasty Cat Gaming Even if the pan were taller, it wouldn't matter. When you fold out the sides of the basket to keep the handles cool, it brings the top of the basket up level with the top of the pot, meaning much of the basket, the widest part no less, is not submerged.
Thanks for checking this thing out!!
Okay, I'll agree that a deeper pot would have helped, but it also greatly limits how must pasta you can put in - if you put too much, even with a deeper pan, the water would be too high, and it would boil over the pot itself. For someone who makes small portions, that'd be okay, but someone feeding a medium-large family, that's bad.
And the pasta falling through is a serious design flaw.
@hibafairy yeah. I am not sure how to show that. Do i just give small updates during other shows or do a whole show on it.
Thanks for the demo, they need to make it deeper,so the pasta seats in the bottom of the pot.Everyone doesn't have a huge pot,so they need to redesign it.
@A16AdamWalker I added fried chicken next week then the video we spoke of will be after that. I didn't realize I was doing fried chicken until the chef basket bombed.
It's not a "free" chef's knife, if you have to pay 5.99 S&H for it
Pretty sure the basket in the infomercial is deeper than what they're selling in stores.
Yeah the basket in the advert was about twice as deep as the product jack tested. Another case of real life products not matching the advertisement.
Jack did you ever try it to fry chicken? Please share if you did. Thanks.
as far as that product goes i noticed the one in the infomercial is a lot longer. that's why theirs was able to boil deeper than the one you had. :(
@KHRSace the steam side as I showed in the video doesn't let the basket fall at all. It's perfectly flat. I used the right side.
@nimarocks1
people review products all the time. There are websites specifically designed for users to review products to inform potential consumers of a product on their experience. There is nothing illegal at all about this video.
I have laughed so hard that I'm crying! Love love love it! Quote* what am I gonna do steam it lol
I don't really mind if the handles get hot for it work properly. It's still a lot easier to pick up a basket than the whole pot. :p
I feel this product is a great idea but they need to do a few improvements, smaller holes and a deeper basket would make it a great product, however how it sits now, it fails and badly.
It doesn't fail. Jack just needed to use the right pot for it which he didn't do at all
Literally the pot in the infomercial was even giving the slightest hint of using that pit comon jack
i have it and i like it it works better if you use a smaller pot but thats just my opinion
You should maybe not add that much to the basket
i love your videos, i'm only 15 (turnnin 16 on may 4th) and in highschool and your product reviews give me a great idea for what my mom would like for her birthdays thanks :D
We have the same bday!
How's it feel to be 27?
The only way this ever really works for pasta is in one of those tall pasta pots. So if you have one of those, this will work great. In a normal pot, not so much.
This is also a fail because you should NEVER constrain the space of food when cooking. The food need space to expand, and with the basket, it is compressed, and will not properly cook.
@redhare976 that was normal amount of pasta. Should I cook 3 pieces at a time?
Might have been great for dropping in a dozen eggs to boil then dunk into ice.
@TranceCore3 I didn't buy the ipad2 for the camera. I did however expect it to work.
You know, id be okay with this, bit the changes are so easy to make!! Deeper basket, smaller holes.
@redhare976 smaller portions doesn't feed the whole family. We never cook half a box. Who wants to cook pasta twice? Who wants to use too much water and it takes forever to boil. This failed on different levels. I have to bail on a product when I feel it's been misrepresented. The Ninja was exactly what it said it was. It did just fine.
I had this basket a while ago because my grandmother got it for us. But after about a week or two all of the metal things aroun got were bending and it was bad! So we got rid of it
I have that basket. Just need to use it on a deeper pot, doesn't work as good on dutch ovens.
With the noodles you did not use the right kind of pot. You used a Dutch oven you would most likely have a better experience if you used a sauce pot
I live in California's Bay Area. The Dublin store used to have them and that was where I saw it. It's been a while.
I already can't wait for next week's episode!
O My Gawd!? Are they still making these? I had one 45 years ago. Used to rid salad greens of water. Swung it arms length. Also used to boil things ago remove them from the water. Way before the invention of salad spinners.
what sofware do u use for ur videos?
if you see in the commercial, theres like half the amount of pasta you put. its not failure if you follow it accordingly. maybe you put too much.
Lol I've never seen anyone struggle to drain pasta as much as the lady from that commercial.
can you try bumb its and the snuggie. i have always wanted to see if they work
It's an easy fix for them but I'm sure they're too lazy and cheap to make the netting's holes smaller, nor would they make it long enough to go into the water. I wish it would have worked, looked like a good idea to me! Thanks jack.
in the infomercial "go right from the sink to the pot, go right from the pot to the plate." *pours in bowl*
I wonder how it works as a basket to put in the pond to keep your catch alive???
Even if the product was a failure, you got me all hungry for some pasta anyway. And luckily, I just happen to have some Macaroni, and some alfredo sauce. Oh yeah, and a colander as well. No need to spend X amount of money on a contraption like this.
I tired to deep fry sponge cakes once. The problem was that instead of deep frying them, i had to kind of turn them in the deep fryer due to lack of oil. They came out looking okay and tasted great. But would they look better if there mainly deep fried or turning kind of frying?
You should re do this with a taller, slender pot. Like the commercial.
You look a bit like that Al guy off toy story 2
So, you're limited to rigatoni and other large pastas. But it also works for things like crab legs, potatoes, broccoli or cauliflower, depending on how large the pieces are. You have to use common sense.
ahh, I see the fallacy in the promotional video now.. They never show the inside of the pot with the water cooking the pasta. Thanks Jack!
I have one of these. The whole thing about it being a free-standing strainer was never true for me, as it doesn't hold itself up and just collapses. I also had the same problem with it holding the pasta above the water, and it's definitely impossible to make pasta that isn't huge because even spaghetti falls out of the large holes. Never tried it for boiling eggs or cooking veggies, but I'm sure that experience would be much less frustrating than pasta and the only way I'd ever use it again.
Why do you call pasta macaroni😂😂😭😭😭😭😭
Because that's what it's called 😐
ClayCharmsCouture because its macaroni.
It's not macaroni. It's penne
***** hmmmmmmm think you've lived in america a bit too long and dont know what the different types are.....google it might help
David Pye not at all, he was talking about macaroni pasta you moron. don't insult peoples intelligence when you are wrong.
Lol at "what am I gonna steam it" that was funny!
Jack, I wouldn't be so quick to call this product a failure (granted I don't know what you spent on it at the time of your review; they currently sell for $5 which is a good deal in my opinion). The Chef Basket's instructions state, "DO NOT use Chef Basket in small cooking pots, saute pans or sauce pans.Use in standard 4-6 quart size pot or Dutch oven." Also compare the pot you used to the one featured in the advertisement and it'll probably make sense why you had trouble with the rigatoni. I actually just cooked up 3/4 pounds of rigatoni w/ Chef Basket, no problem.
Hello
Even if you had the right sized saucepan you can't put the lid on. If you use small pasta it falls through the mesh.
If you turn it over to steam you still can't put the lid on so it won't steam
Don't know about deep frying as you don't normally have the lid on so the handles can be pointing straight up so the basket sits on the bottom of the pan only thing is do the handles get hot, They are metal
Andy C
Please explain how the pot size made a difference? Chef Jack is right the baskets weave is too big for some pastas. Thanks for the 411 Chef.
@lionslicer9999 I think I would have to agree with you. I was thinking that he should've used a taller pot but then I kept switching back and forth between his test and the infomercial and I think the one used in the infomercial had a deeper basket.
his pot isnt too big. it won't make a difference if it's smaller. there's too much pasta in the basket. cause only some of it is above the water. it's probably not good for big families, but for one or two people im sure it would work fine.
For hot handles ....use cooking mittens,
Were you using the steaming part of the basket?
@rosiek26 using a smaller pot won't prevent the noodles from falling out, and there's no need to be rude.
Jack I thought I would go through the comments to see if anyone said if u did anything wrong and I was shocked by all the rude comments this video has, u did ur best and it's a shame people have to be so mean
Too many people are bitching of what he did wrong...
Criticized maybe, but some of the comments on here are more abusive that critical. There's no need for all of that.
Norma Baker abusive lol all one has to do is ignore them
its good video i like ur pot in which u cook pasta piz tell me which type of this pot is it and it is made of what should we say it?
Were there really enough people not using a colander correctly justifying this product?
@NateSmith223 Thank you! That is what I thought. I loved this idea. I'd really use it.
if you look at the infomercial clip he showed you can even see that the same problems where occurring. watch as the lady puts the handles down you see the food raising above the water right before they edit the clip
Love your show Jack. :-) (ps. Thanks for finally straightening out the pic. between the door and the fridge. It's been bugging me for a long time)
Keep up the product reviews, they're great. :-)
@virtualguitarist I was thinking a more narrow pot would work better. Which is what I usually use for pasta.
Not only is there a problem with much of the basket being over the water level, the way you need to fold the arms right to the sides if you want it to stand up in the rinsing position puts your wrists and fingers dangerously close to the hot parts of the basket.
your boiling a pasta and using that kind of pot. and look the water it almost like an empty some times use better pot not that kind of pot. and show some other stuff not just one if its not good to use..
@c3po626 if you could post it on the community at cookingwithjack (dot) net I'd appreciate it. That is where I get my recipe ideas from you guys. Thanks. Sounds awesome.
did you try using a smaller pot. the one they used in the commercial was smaller in size
My fam got it at the dollar store the actual one he has for a dollar and it worked good
thank you for this review very useful xx
@Standard420247 after my video my mother in law let me keep it. She had bough another one in black.
guys your only supposed to fill a cooking pot 2/3 of the way with water or oil...that's really basic cooking rules. he reviewed it fine. they should have made the basket deeper
It's still a failure if it doesn't work for certain pots.
Why do you call all pasta macaroni?
