  • Ferrari replacing Sainz with Hamilton earlier than expected has now been explained by its boss.

Get ready to uncover the game-changing strategy Ferrari has employed by securing Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 Formula 1 season months before it was expected -a move that's already shaking up the F1 world. Ferrari's decision to drop the news in February, not only freed them from speculation but also put Carlos Sainz's destiny squarely into his court as he navigated an uncertain future before Williams picked him up. This early announcement wasn't just about making headlines; it allowed Ferrari to start fine-tuning their 2025 car and operations with far less pressure about who was going to be partnering Charles Leclerc, specifically for Hamilton's driving style, setting the stage for a potentially dominant season right from the first race.
But the ripple effects don't stop there. The early reveal sent shockwaves through the driver market, creating one of the most protracted and complicated negotiation periods in recent F1 history. With Sainz's future in limbo, other drivers found themselves scrambling to secure seats, leading to an unpredictable and intense season. Meanwhile, Ferrari's strategic moves are not just about short-term gains-they're positioning themselves to capitalize on Hamilton's influence, aiming to boost the team's performance, value, and social media presence in ways that could redefine their place in F1.
This video breaks down the impact of Ferrari's masterstroke, from behind-the-scenes preparations to the broader consequences on the F1 landscape, and what it all means for the future of the sport.

I don't think Carlos deserves any kind of blame for this situation. He was the hottest free agent before announcing his Williams move and he was evaluating his options. A Red Bull move seemed unlikely with Perez re-signing but right now we know Perez is at risk of losing his seat in a few races, let alone being kept on for 2025. Mercedes were looking for a stop-gap for Antonelli and that's something Carlos obviously did not want so the demands from both sides were incompatible, something that could take months to become crystal clear to both. Then Carlos needed to find his best chance for 2026, Alpine dropped their engine and chatter started when those Mercedes negotiations started collapsing, Audi completely changed their management and possibly plan, possibly for Carlos or after losing him, and if the media is to be believed Williams also gave Carlos a performance clause which he can activate. This means that by 2025 if he is convinced by Alpine/Audi or any other team that they are a better bet, there is a high chance that he can break the contract that took so long to sign this year.
He played the cards he was dealt as well as he could and Magnussen and everyone else's future looking bleak a result of them not doing so. Why didn't they scramble to sign for Williams or Audi when them getting Carlos looked like a long-shot? They may well have but their on-track performances meant they waited for Sainz to find a seat because he was simply better than them.

The problem is the media's problem who started banging on and on about how indecisive he was, but shouldn't he be?
If you know you are going to lose your job in 12 months, what would do? Pick the very first option that opens up?
It wasn't him who decided to change car, to communicate it at the beginning of the season and contracts are anyway usually discussed and closed during the summer.
I can understand (some) pilots being upset, the ones that fear they might end up losing their spot to him, but everyone else?

Only you could take Fred telling Carlos early and spin it as "Ferrari leaked it"?
I also believe making the announcement way earlier was damaging to Carlos because the media became over-obsessed with his future and then frustrated when he took his rightful time.
And yes, Carlos was doing better in SPA until his last outlap in Q3 where he didn't get the tyres up in the right temp window and had no grip in his final lap.

I think that fans think that media/fan pressure matters way more that it actually does. It’s a business, the players are the team parent companies, the team sponsors, the FIA and FOM. The fans are just along for the ride. They’re there so the teams have something so sell us. No serious team would ever make decisions about driver lineups because of media/fan pressure. The money that popular drivers like lewis bring in from merchandise is so insignificant than the money he brings in through sponsorships. If you believe anything else you’re deluding yourself into thinking you are anything more than a fly on the wall.

Last year Lewis was acting very suspicious, he even got close to Carlos and Charles 👀, while Fred in 2023 keept saying no negotiations until winter break only to tell Carlos they’ll be signing Lewis 💔 Carlos's proffesionalism and rationality hasn't let us see how sad he must feel to leave his dream team, where he's currently treated, like you said, "not our problem anymore" But since that's F1, taking his time to choose was the right thing and for those who lose their seat, i'm sorry, but that's because two teams decided to bring in rookies to the party, two teams keep changing principals, sir Lewis decided he wanted to drive the red car before retirement, and Red Bull civil war

The EU and UK require legal diversity in Formula 1. The only protected group for legal diversity is blind and severely disabled persons.
Since discrimination prevents this group of people being employed by teams and contractors in the open market, a 5% quota system has been put into place by law. The exit of people like Frank Williams means that there are very few severely disabled people working in F1. Do you think the EU is right to threaten the F1 organization with the sudden closure of European and UK races until such time this 5% quota is implemented by F1 ?
It takes tough medicine to shift inbuilt irrational discrimination against the disabled to make things happen where money interests give the illusion organizations are above the law?

    Multi 21 - Lewis.
His move to Ferrari will still end in tears.
Whether it’s this, that or whatever, he’s still got to get the Tefosi onside.
Ol’ Fred is making a Senna / Prost situation out of nothing.
I’m wondering how long before Lewis starts to use the English press to get his own way.
And then there will is a scorned Toto.
😂😂😂😂 This is going to be beautiful!!!!

So basically Ferrari focus and priority is in making more money instead of trying to create a winning team... Lolol... Like i expected from Fred he never was a team winner getting newey would be just for the increase in value for the team... Ferrari cant win... Not with that mentality and team boss!!

Hamilton made a huge mistake and frankly Ferrari made a huge mistake bringing Hamilton in bc it’s just going to lead to all kinds of tension between Charles and Lewis…two number 1’s who wont want to cede any ground will likely lead to all kinds of team disfunction which is very Ferrari

    • @amuroray88

I think they are doing it to test Charles. I'm NOT a Charles guy at all and think he's a gutless one lap hero, and maybe Ferrari fears the same. Bringing on Lewis, you get a true number 1 driver, a great lifetime advertising piece (they own him exclusively for the rest of his life for advertising purposes in the realm of automobiles), and a measuring stick to see just how good Charles actually is. If he can't beat or match a declining (but still probably top 5 grid driver), they probably need to move on soon.

Lewis will regret it, and the fact that the Merc cars have improved enough to put drivers on the podium will make it worse. Lewis will make money, but he won't sniff another championship in a Ferrari.

Lewis isn’t going to regret it. Mercedes ignored his concerns about the car for two years and then refused to give him a brand ambassadorship after all he’d done for them and now Toto is willing to offer all that to Max, a huge slap in the face to Lewis.

Strange thing is, Hamilton does not care about your petty criticisms; he has zero reason to. He can buy your wardrobe and more, and it still wouldn't dent his pocket, but can you say the same? His designer clothes costs more than you make in a year and still you find reason to hate. Hilarious!
      Oh the humanity.

TBH, we have seen that Hamilton have been over-hyped, he is a really good driver, but the Merc he had for 7 years was insanely good. the car and team was the reason for Hamilton to win, i dont see Ferrari pulling that off for Hamilton, no way.
